This is been a decision that I have not taken lightly I have thought about it for over three years. I have finally decided that enough was enough and I have gone through the process of getting approved for the surgery I have been approved in them having my surgery February 1. I am so excited and scared at the same time I'm excited that I could have a new life That I can walk into a store and try on clothes not in the fat section. I am scared that I will fail as I have failed any other diet I ever tried. I am 53 years old and I need to lose 110 pounds. I think this site is fantastic and I look forward to giving support to others as well as receiving the support I need to succeed in this journey. I would love to hear from other people how much weight they have lost since having their gastric sleeve procedure. Thanks.

I just recently turned 50. When I was in my late 30s I swore to myself I'd lose weight and be "40 and fabulous". In my late 40s I swore to myself I'd lose weight and be "50 and fabulous". Here I am at 50 and heavier than ever before. I know WLS isn't a magic pill but I see it as giving me a chance and I'm extremely grateful it's an option. I'm hoping for a late February surgery date - so maybe I'll be "51 and fabulous"!

Good luck to you fellow fifties. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to medical science that they came up with a simple and effective solution to my weight problem. That's not to say that there isn't a lot of work for me to do but the fact that I can't stuff myself on a regular basis is nothing short of amazing. Before surgery I can't remember the last time I felt full. Now, I have a wonderful 'stop' button. You'll soon have yours and I hope you love it as much as I do.

You know I think everyone has felt happy and scared at the same time with getting the sleeve and I can honestly tell you the only way you can fail is if you eat 25/7 to make up for the lost of your other half of your stomach. I can also tell you that with my stomach half gone it seems like there is a switch that got turned off and food is no longer a main thing for me. You will conquer this like you have for every thing that has ever gotten in your way. Take the February 1 date in stride you got this

I'm 50 and scheduled for surgery in early February. I too have failed at every diet including the lap band and am afraid of failing once again. I'm trying to make changes in preparation of the 3 week pre op liquid fast required by my surgeon. I would love to connect with others going through this journey!

Welcome! You are in good company. There are quite a few of us in our 50s and beyond on this site.
I was sleeved in April and couldn't be happier.
You are in for quite an adventure!

Hi I am a 53 year old nurse who is scheduled to have my surgery on Feb. 1. Today I had my pre op exam and started my liquid diet. I would love to have some friends to do this journey to give each other support and encouragement. I am so afraid of failure as I have failed every diet I have ever tried.
    Thanks
    Sandy

That's awesome!!!! I'm so excited for you! I like the rigidity. He's very strict on other areas. My post op diet is 2 weeks liquids and then two weeks soft. But even through maintenance my calories should only be 600 and 1000 max when I start working out.
    Excited!

Hi everyone! My date is 2/1 and I was looking for a sleeve buddy!!!! I'm 32, 5ft 6 and 286. I'll probably be about 270 on the day of surgery - self-imposed liquid diet. My surgeon doesn't require one but he did give me a list of things to get. Vitamins, Prilosec Otc (mandatory for me to take for 1 week before and 2 weeks after surgery even though I don't have reflux issues, to reduce acid for a better recovery), Protein shake (he gave me a list - I love pure Protein and it's on there thank goodness), and some other stuff.
I'm very excited. I've scheduled a week off work. The week after I work only 4 days and then have a long 4 day weekend. I have tons of extra time just in case but hopefully I'm good with a week.
I'm not concerned about anything really except picking up my sweet 15 month old daughter afterwards. She's mommy's baby and she loves for me to pick her up and cuddle. She's also kind of rough - she's used to jumping all over me and playing. I've been trying to get her to be more gentle and it works for a bit but I feel bad that I have to restrict lifting her for 2 whole weeks. I'll get over it.
Anyways good luck everyone! Hope to hear from some fellow 2/1 sleevers!!!!
