I went to Disney last week and did not get tired walking around the park. Bonus: I didn't need an extender on the plane! In fact I had extra space

Tried on pants today and I went from a size 24 presurgery to a 16. It's been 13 weeks.

I can fit into a booth now! No more anxiety over seating at a restaurant! No more dealing with anger from friends and family over having to wait for a table instead of a booth. I feel like a normal human being again.

My dad who has always been critical of my weight (with an emphasis on wanting me to be healthy) was visiting for Christmas and he looked and me then looked at my mom and said "someone needs to feed this girl"!

Had surgery on 11/16 and, all things considered, am feeling fan-frickin-tastic. This app/forum has been a phenomenal resource for me and I truly believe that reading about the pain really helped me understand and prepare for it.
Anyway, now that I'm only a couple days out and clearly an ~*expert*~ (feel free to laugh here) these are my stray observations:
    - There is something living in the lower left side of my tummy. I feel it stabbing, clawing, and itching me from the inside out. It gets its kicks by pulling out a little feather and tickling me until I want to roll on the floor for release, not unlike my dog. I fully expect a little alien head to pop out that cluster of incisions soon. What's up, a new buddy!
    - My skin looks bomb. It just might be the copious hydration and feline sleep schedule (you think?!) but I've finally kicked the pesky breakouts that have lingered since, um, whenever "regular" acne became "adult" acne.
    - I am harder to put down than a Gillian Flynn novel, but once I get to sleep, just watch me go! I will resist a nap like a recalcitrant toddler then sleep with an intensity you've never seen. Also, I'm sleeping about 10 hours a night and relishing every moment of it. I feel like I spent years in sleep deprivation and now it's basically my job, guys.
    - Walking never appealed to me and now it's my favorite thing (outside of sleeping and touching my now-smooth face, of course.) I live in the suburban sprawl of Chicago where, unless someone is clearly jogging or out with kids and/or a dog, you wonder what the heck they're up to. Who is this adult? Why are they alone? Where are they going? Don't they want to run there, or at least take a Pomeranian with them? I now love exploring my neighborhood, getting fresh air, and realizing that everyone else's grass looks kinda patchy up close too. That's okay, snow will cover it soon. *voice cracks as a single tear rolls down my cheek*
    - Speaking of cheeks, I'm still carrying around excess Fluid and am 4 lbs heavier than surgery weight, but I can tell the fat is melting since my cheekbones are thawing out. Maybe I can stop "Kontouring like a Kardashian" in a few months, hooray!
    - Also regarding cheeks (can you believe I have TWO cheek-related points? Impressive) I've taken to calling myself "Chipmunk" on account of my drinking strategy. That strategy is "Think about hydration nonstop, sip for a while, forget about your lil' pouch and take a huge swig, then hold that Water in your cheeks for a while like a panicked forest animal." Every time I do it I swear that will be the last time, then 1 hour later my face is full of chamomile tea that I'm carefully dripping down my throat while resisting the urge to giggle.
    - What is binge-watching, and how do I do that? TV shockingly doesn't really appeal to me right now. I used to enjoy marathon TV weekends but all I have patience for at this point is reading or scribbling in my "adult-friendly" coloring book. Perhaps I won't regret failing to catch up on this season of Scandal when I'm gazing upon the gorgeous artwork lining my walls. *Looks up at the gallery of crudely torn coloring book pages featuring improbably colored hummingbirds and decides to fire up the Netflix*
What is your post-surgery milieu? Any fun facts you learned about yourself after WLS?

    Hello all,
I hope you all had successful surgeries and are well on your way to your goals and dreams. You guys have made me cry with your kindness and my wife has been very thankful for the support as well. I can’t thank you enough.
    My story:
I am back among the living. Still have some recovery and therapy ahead of me but I have made it home. The doctors tell me I am lucky to be alive. I think it was all the prayers, thoughts, and well wishes that helped me pull through.
For those that do not know:
    6 Oct Gastric Bypass
9 Oct Complication – Operation to fix a small bowel obstruction. During this operation, as they were putting me under, I threw up into my lungs. My lungs were now filled and not operating. They sent me to another hospital but they couldn't do anything for me. They finally flew me to University of Maryland Medical Center. Where they saved my life.
They hooked me up to ECMO https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extracorporeal_membrane_oxygenation
I had the Veno-venous (VV) type. At one point my wife said I had 18 different IV bags hanging on my pole. As a result of the procedure I have four blood clots in my body and will be on blood thinners for another 3 to 6 months. So I have to have my blood drawn to monitor my blood thinner levels twice a week.
I am currently home and walking with a walker. I have PT coming 3 times a week and a nurse coming twice a week to draw blood and check my wounds.
I am tired now and need to take a nap. I hope my energy levels return soon. Thank you once again for all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes. I hope to catch up on this thread but it will take me a while.
Blessed to be among the living.

So I'm leaving my 1 week post op appointment and feeling pretty darn good! Down 11 lbs since surgery and surgeon said she's happy with my progress. She wants me to up my Protein intake which is going to be tough because the shakes are making me gag. Waiting on the Unjury chicken Soup mix to be delivered hoping that can help. Hope all of you are having a great day too!

Ditto I overpacked! What I did use was Chapstick, dry mouth spray, hospital provided me with toiletries and a comb(which was so needed) extension cord is a great idea. The pillow for the ride home was definitely a must have. I did have a robe because no matter how many blankets I asked for I was still cold and it helped when walking around the hospital

My first thing was refried Beans, then I had lowfat cottage cheese, greek yogurt mixed with some Unjury strawberry Protein Powder. I mix a little of the unflavored unjury in a lot of things. I also after I saw I could tolerate those things I had a 1/2 cup of chili. Then some tilapia. I chew everything till its creamy & eating very slowly waiting at least 1-1 1/2 min. between bites. I measure everything out in 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup so I don't eat too much. I seem to fill up faster on chicken so I only measure out 1/4 c. A typical meal might be 1/4 c cottage cheese with 1/4 cup fish. I will drink my Powerade zero 32oz with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder to get more protein & still get that much of my liquids. The rest of my liquids will come from plain Water.< /p>
    Hope this helps.
