About Me

    Female
  1. I'm going to say that at almost two weeks out I can drink fairly well. I had a hernia repair too to that may be slowing me down a bit but if I go slow and feel for it I can definitely tell when I'm getting full and it happens fast with anything of substance. Liquids do go down better but not like before surgery for sure. Also, I just want to add that the biggest hurdle for me has been emotional. I'm thanking God for my kids and boyfriend because if I didn't have them I don't think this would be as successful an experience for me.
  2. sugar free Popcicles, Jello and Crystal Light. I've been doing Isopure... But frozen! Yummmm! Trying that!
  3. I wouldn't say bad but it's everything that was described to me by medical staff going in. I'm having to push myself to walk and drink... It feels like it would just be so much easier to lay down and sleep through this first week or so but so much ground can be lost in doing so PLUS the risk of blood clots and dehydration... Keep moving and sipping.
  4. Going home today... Ready to get going on the next part of my journey! We can all share here how is everyone doing?
  5. I just got my surgery date 3/23....

How long do you think it realistically takes to get back to a seated desk job?

LOL... He was fit but I wouldn't say skinny. He's definitely never had a weight challenge.

Can you update is on time and location of the meeting for this month Doyle? I think it may be tonight? Thanks! I'm going to do my best to make it though I may be a bit late.
  11. My doc recommended I get a second opinion just so I feel comfortable. The practice he recommended I see for second opinion is booking into May 2016 and that is past my planned surgery date. I left him a message explaining and I haven't heard back from him yet. All that said I really feel like I can trust him. He's not pushing me rather just letting me know the best vs worst case scenarios I think. It's just a really hard decision.
  12. I got the results from my EGD and some additional testing they did as a result (Gastric Emptying) and I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis though I'm not 'presenting' with the more severe symptoms... (Yet?) I was originally slated for the sleeve. My doctor said he is still leaning towards the sleeve but it's important that I understand that if the portion of my stomach that is left is not functioning properly I would have to then have the sleeve converted to a bypass, probably within weeks of the initial surgery. Scared. Worried. Feeling like my shot at a real life change just got really complicated if not shut down... Anyone else hit this particular hurdle?

Since my issues are generally auto-immune issues it is very probable I will see improvement or complete relief of symptoms. That being said, if I don't get the weight off the same auto-immune issues are directly related to diabetes and fatty-liver. I'm doing this surgery. I really believe I can work the program and it will help get me back to good health. Thanks for the input

The 'Other' doctors and what they say...

YES. He basically put it in such a way that suggested if I just did the right things now I could lose... However, my metabolism is dead and my primary care physician that first referred me to my WLSurgeon has worked with me to try to get weight off and seen the issues I'm struggling with. I have and still am trying. I'm simply not seeing progress. He absolutely made the other patients out to be regretful and I feel that is probably misinterpreted on his part. Of course we would all rewind to a heathy slim body if that was ever an option for us. Some of us, like me, have never really had a thin baseline we trashed. I like many have battled my weight my whole life.

I thought there were other benefits to the surgery other than simply making us temporarily eat less... Otherwise what assists us from eating through? I know a significant number of folks regain due to not sticking with the lifestyle. What separates the surgery from simply doing it on my own? There HAS to be a difference. Right? Otherwise, why would we do this to our bodies? I'm feeling confused. :-/
