This thread is for me! I am not required to start a liquid diet until next week ( my surgery is 11/2) but I decided to start 2 shakes and one meal a day on yesterday 10/19, I was on my food funeral campaign and I got so sick over the weekend that I just had enough and started a semi liquid first. I am in a weird emotional state and I just want this to be over with. My body is fighting me hunger pains etc. But I have to do this for me.

I feel your pain about eating at night. My hubby works nights and when my stepson was working nights. I was home alone with the tv and refrigerator!!!! Not a good combo. Thankfully I am getting out of the habit of staying up late watching tv which has helped the grazing. Good luck with your diabetes.

Auntie Traci...I swear since I've kind of decided I want to go through with this that my night time grazing has increased exponentially! I really believe it is completely psychosomatic and that, in a nutshell, has always been my problem with eating. I was eating things that were healthy, but probably just too much of it. I have diabetes, and my number was horrible this morning! This week I'm going to really buckle down and increase my Water intake and reduce my food intake.

@@auntitraci Hi. I'm in Townsend. Congrats on getting this far in your journey. Going through this process, I've found out that I had more issues with my health as well; which is a good thing. I hope you get the go ahead soon. Good luck.

Ren Koss. I think we have to view this as life change and not a quick fix. I know personally I am working on training my brain that I won't be able to eat or drink certain things. But at the same time I am wanting to have that "final" meal. It's a bit of a mental battle. I lost a few and given in....but I have won more than I've lost. LOL. And the ones that I lost to...it really wasn't worth it. Didn't taste as good as what I had thought. Karma??? Lol

Dar 200. That's exactly how I feel. I battle with myself to not eat junk. I have thrown out.the pretzels....but my stepson likes chips and I can't deny him. He and my husband are preparing themselves for the big change coming in the cupboards. LOL. They.may.come sooner than expected. Will be on steroids thru the end of the year. I do fine during the day. But when I am home aline at night...it's like some starving lunatic.takes.over.

So did the sleep study and yep sleep apneA. Which the hubby is like...told you so. Not.in a mean way but super glad I finally got.tested. now he can sleep better knowing I won't quit breathing 100 times per hour. Went and did the pulmonary test and now the doc thinks I have asthma. Have always had horrible allergies but never tested for.asthma. so now I have inhalers to boot. LOL. So glad I am having all these tests...... but I have always been healthy aside from.my weight. But the pulmonologist did clear me for surgery and commented that most of these issues will probably go away after i lose weight. Now for the cardiologist.

I am getting so frustrated. I am taking steroids for an eye issue. Been in them since March and doing a slow taper off if them. But I keep gaining weight. 40 lbs so far. Made a special appt with the NUT and that was a waste of time. Drink more Water. Stop all soda and caffeine. Eat smaller portions. Duh!!!! My mind is working overtime on the weight gain that I can't focus on redirecting towards better choices. Uu
Ok thanks for letting me vent

The best thing ever was my son flooding my bathroom including my scale. It's gone and I have yet to replace it. Stay off the scale!!! I was obsessed with how much I was losing until that day. I'm 6 months post op, 5'9 started at 243 and down to 175. I went from a size 20+ to a size 12. IT WILL COME OFF. The day I lost my scale was the day I said you know what I'm in no hurry. The best is yet to come. You had the surgery so now let it happen. Your not going to gain weight, you will lose it. It will happen. I was wearing a size 18 that day and when I went shopping I was in a 12. It was a WONDERFUL feeling. One day at a time

Please don't be discouraged. I know it isn't easy when you don't see the progress on the scale. It can be very frustrating!! I have found that my body goes through adaptation periods especially to something new. It's been 5 weeks and your body has gotten used to what you are doing. You need to confuse it to get it going again. Have you tried different cardio to change it up? Different muscle groups? I have had stalls and when I see that the scale is hanging up, I know its time to change it up a bit. I have numerous different cardio that I do, cross country walking, biking, Zumba, treadmill, Kinect with numerous DVD workouts, numerous exercise DVD's, Hatha Yoga, swimming, occasionally canoeing, and kayaking (I live by 2 lakes and multiple rivers). I try and switch those up and rotate them often so that my body doesn't get used to the same routine, which keeps my body guessing and get it jump started. I promise that you are still transforming and most likely losing inches!!!! During stalls, focus on how clothes are fitting and also how you are tolerating longer cardio, which feels amazing when you couldn't do something the week before and the next week you can! Celebrate and focus on the NSV's (non scale victories) during stall periods. Significant weight gain doesn't happen overnight and neither does significant weight loss, although wouldn't that be awesome because it would make our journey's so much easier right? One stepping stone at a time, 1 pound at a time. Don't worry, it will happen and you are just beginning!!! Keep going you are doing great!!!

Hi there. Well I have finally made the decision to have gastric bypass. Its 20 years in the making. I always felt like it was a last ditch effort and as my weight continued to creep up I FINALLY accepted that I need to do this. The final straw was at my stepsons graduation when I couldn't fit into the stadium seat. I had to sit sideways balancing on one cheek. Not my proudest moment.
I am going thru the process and am looking at surgery in November. I have a very supportive hubby and am looking forward to my new journey. I just found this site and am excited to share my experiences and read about yours. I have all of my appts set and everything will go fast yet seem like its going slow. Thanks for letting me share.

Thanks, In my nutrition class they are telling us that we need to use flinstone Complete chewable vitamins. As far as protein, they are just talking about lean meats, fish and chicken. I do have to do Optifast 2 weeks prior to surgery but thats it. So what is all this other protein talk?? I feel like in reading here different areas require different options.
I am currently a stay at home mom for my german sherpard. LOL we moved to Delaware 2 years ago and I haven't worked since moving here. Feel very fortunate about that. So no time off needed. As for support system My hubby is very supportive and is hoping he will lose the 20 lbs he wants to lose. LOL How about you?

Dream4TC My Moose is 7 years old at the end of the month. He is my awesome buddy. What kind of dogs do you have? I think its fantastic that your husband is so very supportive thru all of your adventures.
I have an appt. with the nutritionist one on one so maybe she can explain the after care a little more. I have to take 3 life classes that must cover all the Protein and after care as well. I passed the psych eval and had my sleep test last night. and surprise surprise I have sleep Apnea so now I have to get a Cpap machine. Oh well. I figured I had it, but you can always hope. But quite honestly I am very healthy aside from this and I feel very blessed in this.

@@auntitraci I have heard of people using the Flintstones Vitamins also. The first month, we won't be able to eat the solid Protein so shakes or unflavored Protein that can be mixed in SF pudding , yogurts , Soups etc.so that you can meet your protein needs to avoid muscle loss and to covert the fat to energy so that you lose weight quicker.
How old is your German Shepherd? I love animals. I have 3 dogs of my own. I think I would go nuts staying at home. I work part time just on the weekends and occasionally work from home also. My husband has been extremely supportive over the past 11 years. He has been through every crash diet, and supported me when I went through the band. He has even ate similar foods to what I was eating at the time to make it easier for me. He is also supportive of my decision for bypass, even though I know he loves me just the way I am, but he wants me to be happy and healthy. We actually had a conversation the other day. He said that when I get done with my bypass and later my Tummy Tuck, that he wants a Harley. Lol. I had said "ok no problem". Then he said, "not a matchbox kind, and it must be life size, has an engine, with wheels, and it must be in working order". LOL! He was specific, because he knows my sick sense of humor. He asked for a Harley years ago and I got him a matchbox size and put under the Christmas tree...hehehe!
That's awesome that your husband is supportive. It makes it so much easier!

So I don't have an actual date yet, but it sounds like sometime in November. I've done 2 of the 3 nutrition classes, doing my sleep study tomorrow night, and scheduled my cardiologist and pulminary appts. Getting excited but now I am really trying to do my research to be really prepared. Any suggestions and info is so welcome. Congrats to everyone here. we are making awesome changes for our lives.
