Our week is about to start! I'm 7:30 on Oct 7th, so I'll probably be seeing some post op posts from some of y'all. I had a nice little victory yesterday just from the preop 40 lbs I've lost so far. Fit on 2 rollercoasters I couldn't previously ride, granted it was tight, but still got on there. Was a nice glimpse of the future life all of us are starting this week! Good luck to all of you having surgery the next few days, I hope to be updating as well.

I know how you feel. I've been in the midst of this journey since April. I had to do 3 months of monitored weight loss which I finished in July. I saw the surgeon in August but have had a really hard time getting my 3 evaluations done (due to schedule conflicts). I have two this week and one the following week then I will be done. Then it's a matter of when I can have the surgery. I am hoping before Halloween, but I feel it's so far away. SIGH. I have gone back and forth a few times over the last 6 months. Some periods I am totally on board, some periods I have no motivation. Looking back I am thankful for this time. I've been able to review the procedure, and make sure this is what I really want to do. My relationship with food has also changed... big time. It doesn't control me. And if I do have bad moments I am fully aware of them and it helps me quit when I start. Hang in there. Some days you won't be motivated. It's OK. Nobody is perfect.

In order to get back into it, you need a plan to focus on. A good place to start is to do everything required by your surgeon/Dr. It shows your earnestness in following the program, and impresses the insurance company, as well as the doctors. They will push harder for it if they see you doing your part and that you are serious about it. If they haven't give you a program to follow yet, ask for one, and get some books on the subject so you can start on your own.
It is easy to get discouraged, but this is a long and very difficult road to travel - just ask those of us who have been travelling it for awhile now. It is not easy, and it is a life-long challenge. But totally worth it, IF you are willing to see it through. We all go into this because we had issues with weight, those issues don't necessarily go away with the surgery. It is extremely important to remember that. There are those who will regain the weight, mostly because they haven't committed to the program 100 percent. If you don't think you can, don't do it. You will still have a tiny stomach after the surgery, but the same issues you had prior to it. You MUST be willing to follow your program.
This is why sometimes these things take so long to begin...your commitment starts with these smaller challenges, then those challenges become larger and more difficult to handle. It's one of the reasons for the psych. evaluation. To see if you can handle it. Maybe this is not for you - that's ok. It is not for everyone. It's best to research this as much as you possibly can before you commit. Read all the posts on this site to see the challenges we face daily, and forever. See if it is truly for you. And make your decision accordingly. Good luck to you, and best wishes.

I think people should stop making assumptions that the OP's PCP is absolutely wrong about bariatric surgery in this case. We do not know all of the details of the situation and bariatric surgery may not be the best immediate option in this case. It blows my mind how much negativity towards this doctor is generated instantly since they didn't immediately jump to the requested treatment. It is definitely possible that the PCP is ignorant of the benefits of bariatric surgery, but isn't it also possible the OP is not the right type of candidate for surgery at this time?
