Ok all, I've created a closed group on Facebook called "BP August 2016" so please do a search for it and you can join! A closed group means that anyone can search for it and see who's in it, but all posts are private. I've kept the group name vague and I won't write a description for those who are not comfortable openly sharing their journey with everyone on their Facebook (like me!). After we have enough members we can discuss maybe making the group entirely private, but that would mean we couldn't be found in a search and others would need to request to join in here, rather than on facebook.
So, yay! Come join! Let's keep in touch and cheer each other on!

Would anyone want to do a private Facebook group for August so that we can keep in touch and support each other? I can make one if so

I'm on the loser bench guys????. The nurse said I got out of surgery around 2:30 and was in and out of sleep all afternoon. I have absolutely no pain right now but earlier there was a lot of pressure in my chest. They did ECG just to make sure it was just gas which it was and gave me medication. I thank God and you guys for all the support you have been giving. Your words of advise and well wishes means so much to me. Here's to our healthier longer lives.

Best decision of my life! Yesterday was my 9 month post op check in with the surgeons office. Everything is looking great and I have lost 132 pounds since surgery! My bmi is almost to being out of the obese range and I am about 45 pounds from my personal goal weight.
My heaviest weight in 2011 was 376
My surgery weight in September 2015 was 319
    My current weight is 187!!!!
First picture is almost at my heaviest, then purple shirt is 11 days before surgery and black & white top is last week.

Had my post 3 months follow up with my surgeon.
I'm happy and he is happy!
I lost 50% of my excess weight My labs are now Perfect! (only exception is my Thyroid, an ongoing issue for me) Prior my op, I was heading towards Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Now my liver is happy too Prior my op, I was getting to a pre-diabetic stage. Now my Pancreas and blood sugar levels are also happy My cholesterol levels are getting healthy My hair has thickened and growing like crazy Although I no longer have reflux, due to Nexium PPI, I was told I need to stay on it for 12 months. I follow all the guidelines and recommendations from my surgeon, my dietician (NUT) and my bariatric psychologist. Sometimes it is hard for me to get all the Protein and calories, only when I get stressed. I was told to force myself to eat, and keep having regular meals I still battle/deal with my Graves Disease. Once my weight stabilises, hopefully my life will be easier in this respect My favourite exercises are dancing and walking My face is now defined, and I can see my waist coming back I laugh more The New Chapter in My Life has started, and for that I am very, very grateful I had to wait 9 months for this surgery, due to my thyroid auto-immune disease. I was supposed to be sleeved last July 2015.
    Finally sleeved 8th March 2016.
    No regrets, just massive gratefulness

I completely understand where you are coming from because that is one of my biggest fears.
I'm working with a therapist now and I'm getting the surgery tomorrow. It's scary to know my old faithful food is no longer there but I'm ready to see what this new chapter brings.
Good luck to you and do get a good therapist!

When you have gastric sleeve surgery your whole outlook on food changes. My surgery was April 26th so I am only two months into this but once you get past healing from the surgery, it's not hard. I am a foodie, love to cook, love to shop for groceries, and watch cooking shows non-stop. Now I can still cook and do all the other things, I just can't eat very much. The focus has to be on Protein, Protein, protein. I have just started eating vegetables and can't eat very much of them. My nutritionist said to eat your protein first, 1-1/2 oz for now, then if you still have room you can eat vegetables. No carbohydrates, no sugar. It's really not difficult when you follow the instructions. I get full very fast and I am learning to eat very slowly to avoid indigestion. As to being hungry, no I don't really get hungry. I have to be sure to get 90 grams of protein every day and I keep a food diary to keep track of what I am eating. It's hard to eat 90 grams of protein - you have to drink Protein shakes to be able to make the goal. So far I am doing very well and have lost close to 50 lbs.
It's not that you won't ever be able to eat the foods you like. Instead you won't be able to eat them until you lose the weight and then you will only eat a taste of those foods. If you want to keep the weight off, you will avoid carbs and sweets. Drinking the Protein Shakes helps with craving something sweet - or chocolate. It is indeed a complete life change but it's a change for the better. I no longer have diabetes, no more high blood pressure, no more swelling in my legs and feet, and my knees don't hurt nearly as much as they did before. It's pretty nice to be able to buy some new clothes because nothing fits as the weight comes off.
Keep coming back to this forum for support. There are lots of good people here who have been through what you are going through. You can do this!

well I can promise you this, your taste buds will adapt. it's just like people who drink skim milk, regular milk tastes like it leaves a film on their mouth, and people who drink regular milk feel that skim tastes watered down.
when you do eat old favorites they just will probably not taste as good as you remember.
which means that in order to have long term success you need to find other ways to allow yourself to feel love. you need to find things other than food that allow you to love yourself. a hobby, a sport, an activity...... those kinds of things. I get manicures, I go for long walks, I soak in a scented epsom salts bath, I crochet and do quilting projects. I have so much more energy for the things I enjoy. and once I got back on real food, I enjoy cooking for my family and eating just the bits that fit within my plan.
I would rather have loose skin than skin filled out with fat. I do get hungry but it is nothing like the hungry monster I battled with before surgery. now I just get an empty feeling if I don't eat often enough.
but you are worth it! get professional help if needed -

HI EVERYONE! Now don't think I'm weird but I've always been curious about the step by step process of WLS. From first starting the process to it actually happening.
This was how it happened for me. Important fact, I have BCBSIL PPO+ and I went to the University of Chicago.
May 22 - Decide I was serious about VSG. Found Blue Distention Hospital, UofC and called.
    May 23 - Online seminar
May 30 - Appointment with PCP requested recommendation letter. Also PCP did full blood workup.
June 3 - Appointment with PCP got rec. letter and blood results. I requested a copy of workup.
June 8 - Met surgeon, dietitian and psych for consultation. Gave them copy of workup
June 16 - Got my surgeons requirements, only things of which I already had
June 17 - Coordinator sent order for sleep study and scheduled Prep Session
June 20 - sleep lab received my order from coordinator. Faxed coordinator rec. letter from my PCP. Coordinator also submitted the request for predetermination to my insurance.
June 22 - Day of Sleep Study. It's important to note I bugged them for days straight they wanted to give me an appointment in Nov. I think it happened so fast because they were tired of me. Went home with my machine the next morning
June 24 - Started my night time breathing treatments, must be for consecutive days prior to surgery. Insurance confirmed their requirements had been met still waiting for approval tho
    July 5 - OMG MOMENT I'm approved
    July 11 - Prep Session
July 28 - Surgery date. I'll be sitting proudly on the losers bench

So I'm going to Juarez, Mexico for surgery tomorrow. I'm nervous, afraid of things like not fitting in my airplane seat and about finding my driver who will take me to the hospital when I get off the plane in El Paso. I am in good hands though, going through BeLiteWeight.
But I'd just like to say thank you to all of you for being here. I have learned so much from reading the posts and responses in this forum. Were it not for what I have learned here I would be so much more nervous.
    Best to you all!

    Hi everybody!
My name is Laura I am from Albany, NY
I’m scheduled to have surgery August 3rd! I am going with the sleeve. I have been experiencing lots of anxiety. I find myself reading everything I can about pre/post-surgery. I’m also having strange surgery dreams. LOL! I never had any operations or procedures before I decided to have the surgery. I know everyone’s experience is different. I still have to meet with the cardiologist next week and after that just my H&P with the doctor. I am looking forward to meeting people on here so I don’t feel so alone in this process. Thanks everyone for letting me vent!

Had my pcp appointment today and I'm down 5.6 lbs this month. They puts me at 20.something in the last 2 months. I've got 8 more lbs to go before my surgery and at least a month and a half to do it in so I should be fine. Best advice I can give for pre-op patients is don't wait until the 2 week diet or the surgery to start changing your eating habits. I do 2-3 Protein shakes/drinks a day and a low carb dinner. I've bee doing this for 2 months now. I have seen far far too many people flipping out when the 2 week diet time comes and not sure if they can do it and cheating. I think it's best if we prepare ourself physically and mentally. I've also gotten to try many Protein products and know which ones I do and don't like.
