Well, surgery went well. I started walking as soon as I was brought back to my room until the pain meds kicked in then I napped. Woke up for my lunch - broth, crystal light, and Jello. Walked again, slept more then drank more broth and jello. Getting fluids down doesn't seem to be an issue and the only really bad pain I had was in my shoulders from left over gas from surgery. Walking has definitely helped with that! If all is still good, I'll be discharged tomorrow. Thanks for all the well wishes! So far so good! I've made it to the losers bench!

I'm 6 weeks out, the first week was the hardest for me. I questioned myself about surgery, but the doubt never lasted long. My recovery went smoothly. I would forget and needed to be reminded I just had surgery. The night before surgery I started a notebook called "The next Chapter, began on October 28, 2015" I wrote down everything I was thinking, feeling and accomplishments. Anything that crossed my mind it probably doesn't even make sense. I continue to use this notebook. I try to write in it daily. I have decided I will not look at any of the entries until my one year mark. That way I can look back at my feelings and appreciate everything I have accomplished. Now this isn't for everyone. But it worked for me. There will be difficult days. I felt like you do, up to the night of surgery. Do I really want this, do I really need this? I had to accept the fact I wouldn't have worked this hard to make it happen if it's not something I want or need. The whole process took a year for me to complete. (Insurance hoops)
    I would do it again.
Just know it's okay, you planned to do this for a reason, you started this process for a reason. Trust yourself.
    Sending positive thoughts your way.

    Background:
I'm 30. My surgery is next Friday (12/18/15), I'm on the pre op diet and doing just fine. I'm 5'6. Highest weight was 265, currently 250.
I'm going through the pre op jitters, I think. I've researched this for so long and have been 100% sure of this but I'm suddenly super nervous! "What if's" are killing me!!
So, those who are on the other side, it's totally worth it, right?? All the recovery, all the changes??
I know something's got to give. I can't continue on slowly marching up the scale. But change is scary! My stomach and intestines have been in this configuration for 30 years now!
I never thought I would be scared of changing from someone huge to someone small (or smaller). I didn't realize how much I hide behind all my fluff.
So, I know this has been asked a thousand times, but I need to hear it. Any regrets having this done??

It takes a while for the brain to catch up. I had asked this very question back in May. If you read through the thread, it's actually very common! I've only now gotten used to how I look. I'm still sometimes taken aback at how much smaller I look than how I actually think I look. It's terrible what we do to ourselves! Such negative self thoughts...
Anyway, here's the thread. Great responses, and it made me feel so much better that I wasn't a freak for feeling the way you do right now! It's a really weird phenomenon.

Okay here goes. I have been overweight all of my life. This surgery has given me something I was never able to do on my own. So far I have lost 103 pounds with about 75 more to go.
    My question is this:
When does the brain see the real me and not the old me? I know I no longer wear a 4x but an XL. I no longer wear size 32 pants but an 18. When I look in the mirror I see lots of extra skin but in my head I am still the fat girl. Did you do anything different to help you see the new you? Is there anything that helps?
Thanks for any words of advice you can give!
    Cindy

You feel like you had major surgery. Major surgery doesn't exactly tickle.
Pain level is different for everyone. I have a high tolerance for pain, but didn't want to be a hero and took my pain meds to help me sleep, although I probably could have taken Tylenol and been okay. You may say it's the worse pain you've ever felt. You just never know. I did wake up in quite a bit of pain. Some others didn't. After I got meds, it was totally managable.
Major surgery takes a toll on your body. That's why there's a recovery time. Usually 6 weeks is the magic number to feel close to normal again. On top of it, we are getting very few calories. So between the two, you're tired and feel worn out. It just takes time to feel normal.
Good luck on your upcoming surgery!

BTW, I'm glad to hear that at least some of the folks who are smoking marijuana post-op aren't seeing their weight loss efforts hampered by their marijuana use.
For those who are offended by responsible marijuana smokers, get ready to be offended a lot more. I predict that recreational use of marijuana will soon be legalized nationally -- and sooner than you expect.

    STATUS UPDATE:
It has been almost 4 months since surgery and I have been using marijuana since my for about 2 months now and I have to say it has been great. I have lost 54 lbs and I'm feeling great and going. I exercise 3 to 4 times a week and I'm very active. My life has truly changed for the better and guess what - having marijuana did not hinder anything for me. I stick to having healthy Snacks around like apples, bananas, baby carrots if I get the munchies a bit and it works for me.
Just thought to share as I started this thread and I have not been on here for a while.
    Definitely a positive experience!

I am 4 months post op and i smoke weed every day . I started 2 weeks post op . I don't get the munchies I feel it's something mental and I can control it . It relaxes me and it's just something I choose to do. It hasn't affected me in any way I am 70 + lbs down . So that's my experience and my opinion and everyone is entitled to one
