It’s hard to believe it, but July 18 marks my 12-year Surgiversary! 12 years ago, I weighed 255 lbs (at a height of 5’7”). That was at age 25, after years of being overweight and yo-yo dieting. I got the lap-band on July 18, 2003, under the skillful hand of Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding in New York, and the rest, as they say, is history. I have my life back and it’s better than ever.
I feel like the luckiest man in the world. I have a wonderful family with the best children ever, and I have the health and energy to be able to keep up with them and be a real part of their lives. I am also thrilled every day to be able to advocate for weight loss surgery patients through BariatricPal, working with major obesity, WLS, and medical organizations, and I am so grateful for the lap-band and getting my life back.
I also want to thank BariatricPal members and supporters. When I founded the boards right after my surgery in 2003, there wasn’t much other online support out there. The discussion forums helped me through some tough times, and I am so glad it is able to help others as they approach surgery, recover from it, lose weight, and maintain their loss.

I was sleeved on Monday and I'm doing great. They all thought I was a rockstar at the hospital, I even got discharged a day early. Yesterday was my first full day home and I drank 3 shakes and got in 58 grams of Protein. I thought I'd be struggling more! Today I'll get 62 grams in. Yesterday I even drove my 3 kids to the dentist 20 minutes away. That was a bit much and I probably shouldn't have done it but I did. Today I had to bring my daughter to and from camp, but that a shorter drive in town. I'm pretty pleased with how well everything is going!

Congratulations to all of us 'Julyer's' who have had the surgery and starting our journey to better health.
Also congratulations to those who are about to embark on surgery and speedy recovery! I am now 5 days out and feeling good.
Only thing is I am very tired and sleep a lot, so apologies if I have missed someones surgery recently. I am sure I will be more 'with it' in a few days and will make up for it then! lol
    Gentle Hugs

You are most likely in Ketosis and this can cause insomnia - google it Every time i do some kind of shake diet that drops me below 700-800cals and those Ketones kick in so does the insomnia :|

Went to the dr today for my follow up and he said the average most people can eat is 4-8oz. I'm 6 days post op and am around 4oz per meal of full liquids myself... He said as the swelling of the stomach goes down (up to week 8 i think he said), you can start taking in a little more over time

That encouraged me to make it at a dinner next week. I'm only 4 days post op--the struggle of smelling the yummy food is real, but I'm determined to win! Thanks for sharing!

I use infant sippy cups.... Measure out my target for 15 minutes and keep it by me... So every time I see it, I take a sip. I learned this trick on my Lapband journey nearly 10 years ago.

Got sleeved on this past Tuesday, July 21st!!! So grateful and thankful that I have not had any problems with Protein or liquids. No complications. Also thankful that my surgeon didn't required that full liquid diet pre-op. We were able to have one sensible high protein meal. I guess each surgeon is different, but I'm super excited and no problems thus far! Best wishes my July pals!!!
