SybrgreenTX got a reaction from mrsb305 in RNY P.C.O.S, & Pregnacy
I also had POCS and the gastric bypass. My husband and I never worried about birth control because of my condition. I am 10 months post-op and 11 week pregnant. I know you are supposed to wait, but we weren't actually trying...lol. My bariatric doc said I should be okay since I have been eating really well. It's very exciting, I have never been pregnant before and never thought that I would be able to conceive a child. Gastric bypass surgery changed my whole life. I'm healthier and happier and about to be a mom. If your girlfriend is struggling with her health I would definitely recommend the bypass. Good luck!

It might just be too soon to see the baby yet. Hopefully that's the case. I got pregnant about 7 month after my surgery and although my baby was tiny (4lbs 8oz) he is perfectly healthy and growing like a weed. I only gained 5 lbs during my pregnancy and lost 20 immediately after delivery. I hope all goes well with your pregnancy. Good luck and congratz!

SybrgreenTX got a reaction from twinmomC in WATER... liquid in general
I had a problem drinking Water after my surgery. Figuring out the problem was no easy task either. I kept a food journal for about two weeks and when no pattern emerged my doc suggested an endoscopy to check for a stricture. The stricture was found and they did a balloon dilation. I feel great now, but it was terrifing for me to think that constent vomitting and dehydration might be just a normal part of my post-op life. Thank God that was not the case. I would definitly talk to your doc to see if something can be do to alleviate your discomfort.

I'm a nightshifter too, and believe me I feel your pain. I can have caffeine now, but it has weird affect on me now and I don't like it. My suggestions are to make sure and get plenty of rest and keep up with you Fluid intake and Vitamins. I tend to snack more at work too. It helps keep those energy levels up a little. Sunflower seeds and beef Jerky if you can tolerate it. Chewing gum helps too. Good luck!

It took awhile for them to figuer out what was wrong with me. I had to keep a food journal for a couple of weeks and then it was still just a lucky guess cause nothing else made sense. I'm glad they figure it out though for both of us.

Your bowel movements change after surgery. I'm about 4 months out and I maybe have 2 bm's a week if I'm lucky. As long as you're not forcing it out when it happens you really don't need to take anything. But if you are having an issue with hard stool my surgeon recommended Miralax or milk of magnesia. Taking Fiber regularly helps too.

It was pretty painless and worked like a charm. It's basically the same as an endoscopy. I went in at 7 and was home before lunchtime. Before the dilation I was throwing up a few times a day and I was hungry all the time cause I wasn't keeping anything down. Now my digestive system has normalized, and I hardly ever throw up. Every once in awhile I'll eat too fast or meat thats too dry and it won't stay down. But other than that I feel great.

I had a similar vomitting problem, but mine turned out to be a stricture. After they did a balloon dilation I felt much better. They told me that my stricture was so tight that they couldn't dilate it as much as they wanted to, so I might have to go back and do it again if I start having issues again. So far so good though.

Start donating the clothes that don't fit anymore. Some second-hand store will also buy your gently use clothes depending on the brand and condition. I'm heading to the local Salvation army store today with a bundle of clothes that don't fit anymore. I don't buy name brand clothes so I can't do the resale thing.

I hate clothes shopping, but with this rapid weight loss it's unavoidable. I'm 4 months post-op and have been buying clothes every other month. Goodwill and thrift shops are good for finding cheap clothes while you transittion. I went from a size 26 (jeans) to size 16 in 4 months and the clothes I bought for work (XL scrubb pant) are now falling off my butt. So I refuse to buy new clothes. Last weekend I bought 4 pairs of jeans for 20$ and a thrift shop, so if they don't fit in a month or two it's no big deal. I highly recommend it especially since thrift shop clothes have been broken in a bit it's easier to get into that next level smaller size that might be a little snug brand new. I complain about my clothes all the time, but it is a great problem to have, annoying as it might be.

SybrgreenTX got a reaction from Niki15 in How long will this pain and discomfort last
Crackers worked better for me than bread or toast early on... well even now(4 months post-op). Also 3 bites is a bit much...you have to think my pouch is the size of my thumb that's 2 bites max. My doc said he would rather I eat 2 bites every couple of hours than eat too much at one sitting. Don't get discouraged though, the first couple of months are the worst, because your healing, and then adjusting to your new life. After that you get used to what you can eat, and how much you can eat, and things are much easier.

    Hello everyone,
I had my surgery in March (Gastric Bypass). I was diabetic with thyroid issues like a lot of people in my family. I just turned 37 and before my surgery I was in constant pain. I would come home from work limping and in tears. I was also taking so much insulin I was having chest pains and it still wasn't enough to control my glucose levels. Since surgery my glucose levels are stable without insulin. I come home from work happy and in a lot less pain. There's always a little pain after standing for 10 hours, but it's tolerable. I joined these forums because I have questions, and even though I know a lot of people who have had this procedure I am a very private person. I am not alway comfortable asking certain question if I feel like there might be judgment involved. Not that there would be, my friends are very kind and understanding people. Just one of my own little mental hang ups I guess. Well, I look foward to getting to know y'all through the forum and feel free to ask me any questions. Have a great day!

My A1C was 14.9 at its highest. I was taking humalog 50/50 and not having much glucose control. 2 days after sugery my glucose was good enough that they stopped giving me insulin in the hospital, and I haven't taken any since then. My currect A1C (this month actully) 5.5! Best decision ever!

SybrgreenTX got a reaction from Dub in Impatient hombre wanting to borrow some of your wisdom.
My job does not have a light duty option, so my doctor didn't release me back to work for 6 weeks. I was okay when I got back, but it did take awhile to get back into the routines at work. I had lost about 30lbs by the time I went back so I had to buy new pants. I still wear the same tops though, because I'm cheap and don't want to buy new clothes till me weight loss stablizes. I love Water so not being able to gulp it down did take some getting use to. I haven't had a protien shake in months, because sipping protien shakes takes forever and they get gross after awhile...that and my stomach doen't like cold liquids too much anymore. I still can eat popsickles and ice cream (low carb, sugar-free of course) though go figure. I did have a problem staying hydrated at first, but it's gotten better with time. I also bought a few shirts and jeans at the local thrift store while I'm losing weight so quickly. I'm not spend a lot of money on clothes that won't fit next month weither I can afford it or not, but that's just me. There are these broths that are protien infused called protiwise that are pretty good. When you start eating solids remeber to eat slow and chew your food until it's the consistancy of baby food. The amount of food I can eat still surprises me. 2 or 3 bites and I'm full and if I eat that 4th bite I lose it all so I just stop. I don't have a problem eating at work or infront of people. Most people don't pay attention to what you eat cause they are busy eating their food. Just becareful, people may not notice you picking at your food to get to the meat, but they do notice when you bolt out of your seat and jet to the bathroom to throw up cause you ate too fast or too much. I know everyone is kind of all about the weight loss because I mean really that's why we're here, but don't weigh yourself everyday. Try maybe every two weeks or once a week at most...and try and weigh yourself on the same day of the week at the same time of day. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day so maintaning the same day of the week and time of day will give you the most accurate record of weight loss. Another surprising thing for me was still being tired all the time. Exercize helps, but give your body time to adjust to the new way it has to burn fuel. Be patient with yourself and be open an honest with your doctors. If your having a problem they need to know about it otherwise they can't help you. This has not been any easy fix for me but it has fixed a number of health problems I was having. It was by far the best decision I've ever made. I'm glad I had my bypass, and for the first time in a long time I can finally enjoy my life without so much pain and discomfort. I hope all goes well with your surgery. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

I took a 3 driving hour trip about a week after surgey. It was ok. I didn't drive of course, and I had to wear the belly wrap, and we had to stop a time or two more than usual, but there were not complications. Everyone is diifferent though, some heal quicker than others. I would ask your surgeon and then wait and see how you feel that day. If you decide to go, I would suggest taking the belly wrap and your pain meds just in case, and maybe a memory foam pillow.
