Teenage Lapband On Oprah
I think Oprah and Dr. Oz both had some negativity slipping through...perhaps they thought it was a bit much for teenagers to have the surgery. It kind of irked me while watching.

DISCOURAGED... anyone else?
Hey there- I was banded on 1/31 as well. I felt better yesterday than I do today. I walked a mile yesterday outside and was up bopping around all day. Today I'm really sore and feeling very lethargic. I think it's normal though. I'm not going to stress. Our bodies need time to heal! Are you using gas-x? It's helped me A LOT with the gas pains. Just rest and relax. I'm hoping to go back to work on Thursday, but if I don't feel like it, I won't. I told myself I cannot stress anymore about this. I did enough pre-surgery!

watch oprah now
Am I the only one picking up on some judgemental tones from Oprah and the doctor? I want to think it's stemming from the fact that these are teens they are highlighting.

Hospital Experience(s)
I did not want to stay overnight and I voiced that early on when I got to the hospital. My surgery was at around 10:00am and I was released that evening around 8pm. I had to do an upper GI swallow and pee at least 100ml before they let me go. If I had been in extreme pain I would have stayed but I felt fine to be discharged. I was ready to be back at home in a comfortable setting.

Venting about insurance
I think most insurance companies require the six month pre-surgery diet. They want to know you can lose weight on your own. I started a doctor prescribed diet back in April and was able to lose 60 lbs in 7 months. If you have the determination to get this tool, you can do it. Be thankful your insurance company will even consider covering the surgery. Mine quickly said "not covered" when I called to inquire about the coverage on my policy. Best of luck in your journey!

Atlanta WLS Support Group Forming
Lol...no. Well, I have several stuffed bulldawg toys. I went to UGA, home of the Georgia Bulldogs so I have to advertise UGA whenever I get a chance.

Atlanta WLS Support Group Forming
Hey Mick- I live in Decatur, work in Norcross...am definintely interested in a support group. Unfortunately I work until 8pm Mon-Fri so I don't know if my schedule would work for most since I have untraditional hours. Keep me updated. I just had surgery so I am a newbie.

1st day home after surgery
Thanks for all the messages and yes-GOOOOOOOO DAWGS! I echo the gas-x strips. A GODSEND if you ask me. Also-use a heating pad on your tummy. I am so in love with mine right now. I have had very little *knocks on wood* gas pain. I've been walking a lot, even if it's just 5-10 minutes at a time and around in circles. I felt good enough to get out today and walk about half a mile around my parents neighborhood and it was wonderful to get some fresh air! I am still really sore when I go from laying down to getting up in a sitting position. The two times I've tried to lay on my side have been terribly painful so I'm sleeping on my back which I've never done...so that's been a little tough. I'm taking my pain meds when I get really uncomfortable and just chilling out.

2 problems on postop day 2
I'm just itchy all over! I think maybe my skin is just really dry but I am constantly scratching one place and then the itch moves somewhere else. Gah!
-
I think I figured it out
I agree. Gas-X has helped me! I read that a lot said it didn't help them but it's been a great help to me. I also have the heating pad on my tummy whenever I'm laying around (after walking around and getting tired) and I have had very little gas pain.

My doc said milk was fine right after surgery.

My body, my band, my BETRAYAL
I think 9 lbs in a month is great. Multiply that by 12 and you have 108 lbs in a year. Slow and steady wins the race.

4 Days post-op Need help.
I am sore as well, 4 days out but I mean I don't think that is abnormal at all. I've never had surgery before so I figure my body is still wondering what the heck I did to it. I've only been able to do about 1 protein shake a day, and I have to split it up. I'm drinking lots of water, protein water, apple juice, and jello. Today I had some chicken soup broth and it was wonderful.

Need some reassurance!
I too am 4 days post-op. I'm still sore, and weak but I'm thrilled that it's over. My stomach is making crazy noises, I can't lay on my side, I'm bored laying around, but I wouldn't change a thing. Just keep thinking about what it will be like a month from now. You just have to take it day by day.

Anyone from Georgia ??
Hey Everyone- I'm one day post surgery and at my parents resting and recovering. I'm so glad to finally have the surgery over and I'm looking forward to healing and getting on with my life with my band!

Drinking water...
Just echoing what's already been said. Wal-Mart has their version of the Crystal Light little packages and they do one in grape. Yum-it is delicious! It makes drinking the water far more enjoyable I promise!

1st day home after surgery
Well after months of research and finding a way to pay for it, I'm happy to report I was banded yesterday! I'm at my parents recovering, sore but doing well otherwise. Hope everyone else is doing well who was just banded.

Phetermine Now or Lapband Later? Alabama Here
I started on Phentermine last April and lost 60 lbs. As soon as I started taking it, it worked for me. I lost cravings for sweet things, bad foods, etc...I guess it just depends on each individual. After being on it 6 months, my doctor and I discussed my long term goals and plans on keeping the weight off and that is when she suggested the lap-band. Best of luck on your journey. I got banded yesterday.
