  1. It seems quite a few people have issues with Water unflavored, but when you add stuff to it, to me it seems to make me thirstier...

I found this Water a few years ago called MetroMint - its flavored but with NO calories/artificial sweetners because they infuse the water with the mint flavors - my favorite is chocolatemint second by spearmint... in texas they are sold in HEB - but I think you can order them off the website.

    http://www.metromint.com/

I haven't tried it with Protein yet - but the chocolatemint or lemonmint would probaby be good with unjury's strawberry sorbet :D

  2. In regards to the other post discussing what people should and shouldn't be saying in forums, as I originally said, call your doctor, but the information I provided is based upon being a licensed medical professional, so I didn't just pull it out of my butt. Sometimes people on forums actually know more about specifics of certain diseases than do doctors who are specialized. As an example, my surgeon didn't realize that the depo shot was not contraindicated in the same way that the pill is. Given the few people who take depo compared to oral contraceptives and the fact that he is a bariatric surgeon and not an OB/GYN really doesn't make it a big deal that his patient knew more about a drug than he did. Asking questions in online forums can give you a huge variety of answers that let you better research the issue and discuss it in an educated capacity with your physician. Should you rely 100% on something posted here? Of course not, but this is still a valuable source of information especially given that plenty of people on here are actually people who work in healthcare.

Please explain - Does having the the depo shot cause problems with the surgery? I'm due for my next shot end of May, hopefully will either be scheduled for surgery by then or have had it. Yes, I'm still going to ask my SA about it - however, I seem to understand it better when I read it on here and compare to what they tell me.

  3. I go on monday for my weigh in - last before I get resubmitted and hopefully this time I'll get approved - if not I'll be switching doctors and moving to one closer to home - sucks because I kinda like my Surgeon and my nutritionist. I'm just done with waiting and being patient. Good luck to you!

  4. Mine was - 9 years ago when my dad died in 2007 of a massive heart attack at the age of 53 because he had diabetes/severly overweight (close to 400lbs) and he was a heavy smoker... I decided that I didn't want to die at 53 as I was already close to being the same weight as him and I was 23 years younger. I wanted to live to be able to play with my nephew and teach him everything my dad taught me and wouldn't be able to now... So, I decied on the lap band because the sleeve wasn't available to me back then. I had decent success, I lost weight - which was my goal - wasn't a complete success as I didn't lose 50% of my weight but I still lost some. Now, I want to do the revision to the sleeve and continue my weight loss and continue to become healthier, so that I can continue tplay with ALL my nieces and nephews now - three of which my dad never got the chance to meet and I don't want them to miss out on knowing him through me as my sisters had a different type of childhood with him then I did. I was the first and his subsititue boy - so I learned everything - they were the girls :P

  5. I first got my band in 2008 I was at 315 - I'm at 259 now, working on making it lower because last summer I was at 250, but had the fill taken out of my band to prepare for sleeve since I was having issues with food getting stuck and was told I had a small slip. I gained 20lbs - had them refill my band and I'm working on losing it again.

Anyhow, my point to all this - was I would go shopping for new tops with my sister and I'd pick out the same size I would always get before 3 - 5xs and she's like Manda put those back! you're not that big anymore! and she'd pull off a 1x and it would fit... I'm still heavier then I want to be obviously that's why I'm trying to get the sleeve done, but that really helped me to get perspective on how I looked vs what I was...

  6. @@Sophie74656 - so there was a question in there???

I only got out of this that your husband is inviting a female over to cook dinner. Are you two still living in the same house?

If you are separated why do you care who he has over for dinner? Move on - - you sound like you would be much better of with a goldfish.

She should get a goldfish and flush her husband down the toilet.

LOL....I have a cat does that count?

Yes! Cats rule - Dogs drool! :D and goldfish... well they just kinda seem boring and you can't cuddle them - I love my cats :D

  7. yes, yes you have :P

When I got the offer to be a volunteer to give up my seat - I had to be at work the next day, but I just called my boss and told him the flight was overbooked and they had to put me on another plane for the next day - he was a little irriated but I worked at a gas station at the time, so I uh really didn't care.

  8. @@WLSResources/ClothingExch no no tell us now!! :D I'm all curious and that... see I love flying, but I really hate waiting in the airports...

once took a trip to jacksonville - on the way back had a layover in washington dc was only supposed to be an hour - turned into 8 hours...

then I was coming home from a trip to shallotte/myrtle beach - this was a good and bad thing - they asked for volunteers to give up seats and they would compensate them and pay for hotel room for the night... so I did that... and got a voucher for my next trip as well. The bad was my friends were already headed back to shallotte and for good reason (hour trip) didn't want to come back to get me :P

  9. I'm having a really hard time getting approved for my revision - I've had the lap band since 2008 and I've lost at most 60 lbs, I would get sick often, and haven't been able to afford a fill adjustment in awhile because I did not have insurance. Now that I have it - I find out about the sleeve and I really want to switch to it as I've weighed the pros and cons - but my insurance won't approve the revision unless I can prove medically necessary. I have some port pain, but I have a very high tolerance for pain, so I can ignore it most times... When I finally went for my band adjustment last July - they showed that the band had slipped a bit and that my pouch was enlarged. They unfilled it a bit and that is when I started doing research and found out about the sleeve. So many people were talking about all the issues they had with the band and not being able to be comfortable about going out to eat because you have to case the place basically to make sure you know where the restroom is and how quickly you can get to it, how some days I could eat a lil bit but then the next day its Soups or nothing kinda day... I thought - hey I could do the sleeve and I wouldn't have to worry about stuck food anymore and I would still have a restriction that would keep me from overdoing it - I was very careful about not overdoing it.

I've done all the requirements for it and have met them all - I keep reading about all of you that have had the revision done and I'm starting to get really fustrated and upset because it seems like I'm trying to do this before I get really sick with any of the overweight caused diseases - I am right now at around 270 - because I gained back 20lbs ( i admit - I regained because I was suddenly able to eat all the things I hadn't been able to eat in the past 8 years, like bread, brocoli(sp), vegetables, steak, actual pizza, Pasta - I do not eat junk like candy or processed bakery stuff and am a rather 'healthy' eater - I just over do it because I never feel full) after I got my band unfilled in preparation for surgery, atm I still do not have real health issues other then my joints are getting older and having a harder time at the gym because of the weight gain - I still go to the gym at least 1 - 2 times a week and work on the treadmill.

Last week I went back to my surgeon and his assistant has put me on a liquid diet to help me lose some of the weight I gained back, and because my EDG and swallow study came back normal - they weren't able to prove that its medically necessary to remove the band - so we're trying for intolerance since I was getting sick before when it was filled. So, we agreed to get my band filled again with 2 ccs - I went for the appointment that was set up with the hospial and when I got there the lady that was supposed to do my fill was almost like she didn't want to do it because she was confused as to why I was there - she said I was telling her the wrong things - that because I told her I don't want to gain anymore weight and that I want to prove to the insurance that the band wasn't working for me, so I have to get it refilled and go back through everything I was going through before. She almost didn't fill it and as it is - I don't believe she put the whole 2ccs in either.

I'm waiting until this week is done on the liquid diet, I still have port pain and it hurts sometimes like a bad stitch and sharp pain - but apparently that's not enough :(

I'm not giving up - but I can't afford this as a self pay, my credit is really horrible, so I am unable to get approved for a loan to pay for the removal of the band.

Please excuse any incorrect grammer and the fact that I skip from topic to topic - I'm not sure what its called but I type and talk in random sometimes jumping from topic to topic as my mind grabs a thought. I try to go back and edit, but if I missed something...

I've done 7 nutrition visits now, provided my gym check ins, did all the requirements for a normal just getting the sleeve done as well as doing the requirements for getting a revision done - I just want to get this done, so I can get started... I don't understand how some people are getting approved for revisions or getting the sleeve done when they have so much less to lose then I do, and I'm having such difficulty - what am I doing wrong?!

even my surgeon's assistant is at a loss, but she is trying to help me and hopefully we can prove intolerance... I feel almost as if I'm being pushed into self paying for it - which I can't afford to do... :(

  10. Wow - I'm really sorry for your loss... *hugs*

@@OKCPirate - to be honest, I don't know how important it is to me. I'm the only 'female' friend that he is around that really KNOWS him... and I know he's a cheater, a liar, and all those 'bad' boy things... so, I already know in my mind I wouldn't date him, but he can be very persuasive and genuine... My friend sammy is gonna try to help me to say no :P hopefully I find someone else to be around to where I can tell him no. Then again - he might not even change and I'm overthinking all this. :)

  11. @@Emilie.Lancaster - Some people are much more secure when they have a fat mate. Mainly because they are less likely to have opportunities to trade up because of the weight. Weight-loss changes the power dynamic of a relationship as much as a job loss or promotion.

I'm trying to work out where my roommate fits into all this. He has sex with a lot of 'heavy' girls - his girlfriends though tend to be normal weight - not excessively skinny - and then there is me... I'm overweight and while he doesn't mind introducing me to his friends as a friend - we don't go out in public and hang out because he has 'issues' with people thinking we are a couple when we're not.

I've just learned to accept that he's shallow about who he goes out with... he wants the 'hot' chic on his arm. I'm just not sure how I'm going to react or how he's going to act after I lose weight...

  12. You can probably go but you will have to explain why you aren't eating or drinking anything and why you act lethargic.

I really don't understand the female mind frame of always trying to keep weight loss surgery a secret. Men usually don't have this problem.

That's kind of a privilege of being a male. Overweight women are pariahs--we are assumed to be lazy, have weak character, etc. I'm not telling anyone (not a single person) because people are nasty, judgmental, rude... I don't need anyone telling me how to eat, or what I should or shouldn't do about my body. For some reason though it happens all the time. "Are you sure you want to eat that?" "Have you ever bought a slow cooker? You can just fill it up with lean Proteins and vegetables in the morning and have a healthy meal at the end of the day!" "I can show you some easy workout routines." These things are always UNSOLICITED.

I get that all the time! - Recently I got tired of it and called a 'friend' out on him telling me what I need to do and what I shouldn't be doing. He had asked about me going to the gym and when I told him I didn't go that day - he became very condescending and was like You can't skip like that - you need to do it and just go... I told him that I wasn't accountable to him or anyone but myself - I go with a friend to the gym and when she doesn't go - I don't go. He got all defensive about how he was just trying to support me and all that jazz... He needs to find another way to be supportative because that ain't it. He's another one that isn't fine with me having surgery and I quite frankly don't care.

I like having a gym partner and when I want to go by myself I do - but usually her break days are at the same time as mine - while I just explained all that here. I Don't feel I should have to explain it to him or anyone else. I only did so here because it adds to the story.

  13. I talked to my Surgeon's assistant - she suggested that we wait until after the EDG and swallow study which is in January. Once that is done - I'll have more backup for getting it appealed. They stated it wasn't medically necessary because I hadn't proven slipage or erosion - and that they want recent as in the month that its submitted proof. Least thats what the SA says - I'm not giving up I'm just fustrated because I worked really hard trying to get my old medical records - even went to the hospital to get copies because True Results (where I got my lapband done) didn't even have record of me being there anymore... because it was in 2007/2008...

I'm gonna do the EDG and swallow study - see what happens when we resubmit and go from there.

  14. No, I don't have any co-mobidities - I'm fairly healthy except that I'm overweight... I've been lucky so far with that. But my father died at 52 from a massive heart attack - he had diabetes and he was over 350lbs, and I don't want to go that way.

I have minor issues with my knee, part weight related and part an old injury that I had surgery on 16 years ago.

If I had any money saved up or able to get a loan - I would totally go self pay, but I am not in a financial position to be able to do that. :(
