That unjury Soup actually sounds great and your husband sounds like he's really trying to help you out. I only have one kid and I feel overwhelmed sometimes. I can't imagine having 6. Do you ever experience privacy with so many kids?.
I have been doing the Premeir Protein shakes 2-3 times a day and I like the chocolate more than the vanilla. I want to try the strawberry.
The pre-op diet is tough and yesterday I was up at 4am and didnt sleep until 1am do Protein Shakes weren't gonna do it for me.

On the way to work, I had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting someone and my Protein Shakes hit the floor of my car and one broke open. What a great way to start my day!

When I got to work and cleaned up I knew I was 1 Protein shake short so I cheated and had 2 boiled eggs and an orange.

After I got off work, I was craving fish for my 1 meal of the day and wanted to go to Ports O' Call in San Pedro but my wife insisted on going to Westminster to eat noodles in duck soup so I watched my wife and daughter with my stomach growling at me and I was starting to get a little dizzy and angry. Hungry + Angry = Hangry.

After they ate my wife and daughter ate, they said they felt bad and wanted to go to San Pedro do I can eat fish. Keep in mind it's now 10pm. My wife gets off work after 8pm. My last Protein Shake was at 3pm so I'm almost at 8 hours with nothing after barely anything.

Of course all of tge restaurants were closed like I told my wife they would be and she acted shocked because she was wrong... again... even though she knows EVERYTHING!

I ended up going to a crappy restaurant and ordered fish. By this point my hands were shaking. My wife, who just ate, ordered Salisbury steak. The meals came with soup or salad do I got salad and my wife hot clam chowder.

The restaurant was full and it was about 11pm and they had one waiter who was really a bus boy working the whole restaurant so our food got to the table about 45 minutes later.

At this point I had given up. I tried to be good but I ate some of my wife's soup, had a bite of bread, had some of my wife's Salisbury steak with gravy and mushrooms and I had about 3 ounces of fish with broccoli.

I hope today is better. I think my wife is actively trying to sabotage me. I realize it sounds like I am throwing my wife under the bus. I guess I'm still a bit hangry. I really love her and she wants this surgery for me more than I do. I can't expect her to change her life for me. I just feel like she expects me to keep my life the same for her. I can't eat with her anymore. I can't wait for her to get off work so late anymore before I eat... or drink Protein shakes. So much of my family and social life revolves around sharing food and/or drinks. It's really going to make me feel like an outsider or a pariah that can't be around everyone when food is around.

I'm going to start making my rebuilding PAUL videos again on YouTube today to document my experience and progress. I just created a cool video intro for them. I'll post a link when I get it uploaded.
On the bright side I think I'm down about 13 pounds for the week.

It's hard, it really is. I drank a lot of Decaf green tea to help get thru.
I remember looking at my teenage son at one point during the pre-op diet and just started to cry. It is difficult, but hang in there. It is so worth it.

I did 18 days of just drinks and it was hard but once you are past day 5/6, it gets so much easier. I really do believe that doing the liver reduction diet prepares you for after surgery. It's not such a shock to your system as well as dealing with the aftermath of major surgery!!

Stay really busy. Drink all the Water you can stand, add some flavor to it. Stay really busy. Say 4 is really the make or break point. If you have made it this far, the rest is downhill. Make sure you have some variety in your liquid, and stay focused.

Hi everyone, thank you all for replying. I ended up buying Body Fortress to try it out for now. I'll try some others for variety. I need to keep remembering that I will be spending less on groceries and restaurants, so I will be able to buy Protein and healthy foods. It's just hard to "believe" it when you are just beginning. It's hard to plop down $30/40/50 or more to buy a Protein Drink. I'm looking forward to surgery the end of next week.
    Blessings,

I'm so glad that you asked this question. I'm 8 wks post op RYN. I have smoked twice. The first time I got terrible munchies but the second time not so much. I agree with an earlier post, have sugar free options available. I only have things in my house that are safe to eat but there is still the risk of over eating. I've smoked for 25 yes and would rather smoke than drink. Great topics and yes, some other responders need to get a clue and read up on the medicinal affects of it. Good luck with your surgery!

I have been partaking since 2 weeks post op. And up to two weeks before the surgery. I lost 50 pounds preop, while smoking and 50 post op, while smoking.
I normally have a treat planned for my evening snack, the no sugar added fudgecicles or sugar free dark chocolate pudding, so I plan for possible munchies, most times I dont notice munchies though, depends on the strain of marijuana. Hope that helps.

    Wow. Just wow.
So - I really didn't tell people before I had the surgery. Since I was going to a family party just 4 days post op, i felt like I needed to tell them something, so I sent an email POST OP asking for their support or silence since the deed was done I didn't need any Monday morning quarterbacking.
They respected that, I got alot of support from most people, and silence from a few. About 1-2 years post op, one of the silent brothers told me that I really changed HIS mind about WLS as he thought it was horrible, everybody failed, couldn't eat normally and always regained all their weight. He has told me more than once he is SO HAPPY FOR ME for finally being able to control my weight post sleeve and he can see very well that I eat all types of food, enjoy BBQs and other food based events like a normal person - I just eat small.
If someone had betrayed me like this woman did - essentially public humuliation over a very personal situation/decision, she would not be welcome in my life anymore. I hope you are a better person than i am because I just would have to cut the toxic people out along with that 80% of my stomach - ha!

I know why I want this , I know I wanna be healthy have more energy look amazing for my wedding next year and carry a baby (I have pcos) but from one point of view I'm on board ready for surgery tomorrow but the other half of me is like this 2 week liquid diet will suck, I'll be in so much pain, I'll have saggy boobs and skin I'll never be able to eat again
Maybe I'm just freaking out cause surgery is next month? No mean comments please!

I had a piece of cheese today. It was sitting on the counter because my mom had made my kids dinner(which is fantastic) but didn't put away the food. It was the best piece of cheese I've ever had.
It's really hard to adhere to this diet when there is food around!!

Thanks for the encouragement! It's true - in the scheme of my life this 2 weeks is nothing. But being in the middle of it is challenging, to say the least!
I've been reading a lot of the books on gastric sleeves and it's helpful as well.

I Just have to say that for such a simple statement, it sure did resonate loudly with me! And I read it just when I needed to, as I sat here feeling sorry for myself beginning my liquid diet. What a great pick me up, and I'm now trying to think in that frame of mind for today! Thank you for that!

I feel your pain. I have been on the full liquid diet for 7 days, and shakes plus a very small supper for a week before. The past two days have been bad as it is the weekend! I have dropped a lot of weight in the two weeks, but it is still super hard. Yesterday I spent over and hour reminiscing about all of the things I could imagine eating, and tonight I was thinking about it again. I still technically don't have to start the diet for another week but figure I will lose my weight faster if I just start now.
Each doctor has there own set of guidelines, and I believe they each give you something a bit special. Mine allows coffee, and your allows a cream Soup, which I would really enjoy about now. But what can we do? Quit, just like every time we have given up before? I just keep reminding myself, nothing changes if nothing changes. One day months from now I will be able to have a couple bits of something normal without feeling like I need to eat the entire oversized plate. Hopefully, I will be happy, satisfied and not give it a second thought. Tonight that is worth it to me.

I would just enjoy the time you have left (within reason). You could replace a meal here and there with a different Protein shake if you want to test out some ahead of time, but unless your surgeon requires it, there is really no reason to follow a strict diet longer than you have to.
If you haven't yet weaned yourself off of carbonation or caffeine, maybe you could focus on that.

Probably you don't see a lot of veterans on this forum because as you get further and further post op, you don't come to the boards quite as much. I am 2 years post op and probably should check in more often. It just kind of becomes a more normal way of life and I don't really think about it or struggle with things the way I used to. Also, they are probably posting more in the veterans forum, and I believe you have to be a certain time post-op to post there (1 year I think). So you are probably not going to find them here.
As far as possibility of success though, it's really what you make of it. It is just a tool like everything else. You will see people wildly successful, or you will see people say their sleeve is "broken". Here is a post that I wrote about that and what I've learned about "success rates" in my time post op. "Why Are Some People Successful and Others Fail?".
Hope that helps! I know it's not quite what you were looking for, but just my thoughts on it anyway. :-) Good luck on your journey.

I am 5 days away from the big day and I still smoke buds but the doc said after not to because the smoke can possibly irritate the new sleeve and then the coughing won't feel so good either. So I have been doing my own research and have learned that vaping would not cause smoke irritation or coughing. I will be testing this theory and let you know my experience. Also to the haters, Marijuana is not a drug, it is an herb from the earth and has been used medicinally for centuries so don't go rolling it into the bad category's before you know your facts. I quit smoking cigarettes 3 yrs ago cold turkey! It wasn't too hard even though I used to smoke a pack every 2 days for the past 25 yrs. be strong to those are and trust me you will thank yourself later and breathe better too! ????

I have smoked before WLS and after. I have not had a case of the munchies, but I also haven't had most of the same thoughts about food as I did before surgery. Food is not as all consuming as it once was. So being high is being high without the munchies (for me). I find that when high, it's also a lot easier to get more fluids in. I have not had alcohol since surgery, that was more of a trigger for me to overeat then pot was.

I drink Water 8-10 times a day, OH MY GOD! I must be addicted whatever will I do? using pot once a week is not frequent at all. before your surgery I bet you had more chocolate bars a week then that, which is much more harmful then one puff a week. before you comment I did not do drugs until I saw the results for my friend as a way to control pain. I have started just recently as a way to find an alternative method of pain control for chronic pain from Back surgery(Medical prescription). someone having a puff once a week is not an addiction, Jadama22 continue your recreational use, you are hardly an addict.

it surprises me the amount of people hating on them because they want to do cannabis. we all have different reason for wanting to visit this alternative, for me it is for pain control, and the medial prescription route. I have to quite NSAIDS and the thought of this scares me as back spasms and pain are common without my NSAIDS. I have a friend who has a medical marijuana license and it controls his back pain. the munchies are not that severe, I have found making tea with the marijuana, does not give me the munchies. As for Nikkibear 24 your ignorance towards his use of Cannibus is shocking, and I'll bet he is 110% glad he doesn't have to work with you. walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you pass judgement.

So I don't smoke pot and I never have. But I think that the purpose of this post was not for people to ridicule her. It's a simple question to those who have experience with wls and weed... I clicked to read because it was a interesting topic.
I see it this way, the desire to smoke weed it's not different than another person who has been sleeved wanting to eat junk food. Both may not be great choices but bottom line it's their CHOICE what they do with their body.
So even though I am technically not qualified to answer this question based on experience, I think you should evaluate the possible consequences of your choices and determine if you are willing to deal.
