September 8, 201510 yr I have my surgery on October 5. Kind of want to start my diet so I can build my way up to the liquid one. Should I or should just enjoy the few days I have left.
September 8, 201510 yr I was thinking the same thing. My surgery is scheduled for Oct 21st and I wondered if I should just start dieting now. I figure if I start now then when surgery hits it won't be such a shock to my brain. I hear the mental part is the worst of it.
September 8, 201510 yr I would just enjoy the time you have left (within reason). You could replace a meal here and there with a different Protein shake if you want to test out some ahead of time, but unless your surgeon requires it, there is really no reason to follow a strict diet longer than you have to. If you haven't yet weaned yourself off of carbonation or caffeine, maybe you could focus on that.
September 8, 201510 yr Author I'm starting to day no cokes or sweet tea( I was killing the sweet tea). And drinking protein for breakfast ( no more doughnuts with the kids). And one at lunch. The just eat a nice dinner. Got about two weeks before my pre op diet. So a least that would help with the sugar headaches. Be trying to learn to chew my food good and sip my water that hard!
September 8, 201510 yr I started mine early just to find a protein drink I liked and it made the liquid preop diet easier to tolerate I have surgery tomorrow and I feel nervous but great I lost 20+ lbs on preop.......good luck
September 8, 201510 yr My surgeon only requires a three day liquid only pre-op diet but I started three weeks ahead. I weened myself off of diet coke and then weened myself off of carbs. I had headaches and weakness all which passed after a few days. My thinking was I would have enough to focus on after surgery without adding aspartame and carb withdrawals.
September 8, 201510 yr Hey there, I was thinking because you're so close to your date you should just go ahead and start your diet now. The reason I say this is because of the liver. My surgeon told me that all of us (overweight people) all have fatty livers due to our weight and that once they go inside they will be able to tell if we've been doing right (eating well). You want to try your best not to have any complications. So I would start now. if you lose weight before the surgery the better you heal and the better chances you'll come through the surgery with no issues. So start now! I'm still in the pre-op stage as well but you're so close don't black slide. I would stay away from all the badness at this point and just jump on the horse and start riding! Luck!
September 8, 201510 yr I don't have my date as of yet. I have two more appointments before I will get my date. It's looking like sometime in October though. I have my medical clearance appointment on 9/28, and then my re-evaluation appointment with the surgeon on 10/9. If I have not gained any weight and I'm cleared from a medical standpoint I'll get my date that day. I don't weigh myself at all. The only times I weigh is when I'm in the hospital. For me I take the stress away when I don't weigh. I can pretty much tell when I've gained weight or when I'm losing. SO I know I'll be good. As long as I'm still at minimum 325.1 when I weigh in I'm good. I'm sure I've lost some since because I'm working out and I haven't back slide on my eating.
September 8, 201510 yr Be careful not to lose too much if your insurance company has a minimum BMI. That's what my dilema is right now. I have to be above 40 BMI but I cannot gain any weight from my first appt. Which is about a 4 lb difference between the 2. Good luck.
September 8, 201510 yr Author Jeffery hit me up if u need some support . Hard road ahead but should be fun. Let's have the kind of live that we should have been living .
September 9, 201510 yr Hi. My surgery is also October 5. So far I've just been testing out different protein drinks and focusing on things like eating cleaner. I'm still enjoying a favorite food occasionally, but no "last meal" binges. I want to stay out of that mentality since it is a slippery slope for me. I cut out carbonation and caffeine. That was not as hard as I thought it would be. I've started drinking more water. My doctor only requires a pre-op diet for BMI over 50. My BMI IS 42.6. But I'm planning to do some kind of liquid diet at least for the week prior to surgery. I feel safer that way. Good luck! I'm brand new here and getting nervously excited, but hopefully we can support each other as we go through it all!
