TexasGirl86 got a reaction from chopsitter in 5 days post op, feeling blah. Normal?
It happened to me randomly a few times. But I'm much better the next day

I am also under the impression that those who exercise are more likely to keep the weight off, and it also increases muscle mass which is so important because when we are losing weight this fast, we are not only losing fat, but also losing muscle mass. Muscle is what not only keeps you strong but keeps your metabolism revved up.
I certainly hope that this couch potato can also form better habits post WLS and have horrendous knee pain now. But I can't let it stand in my way anymore. I have 6 more weeks to walk, stretch, and do yoga. But I know I'm going to have to take it easy except for walking for about 6 weeks after surgery.

There have been studies as of late basically saying that losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I know my husband who had a Gastric Bypass 9 years ago lost 120lbs without any formal excerise. He was very active, and kept busy all the time, but never exercised. He also had zero muscle tone when he got to his goal weight.
Me? I walked the first 6 months, and then joined a gym after my weight loss slowed. After I did a C25k type program, I fell in love with running. Now I run 3 miles 3-4 days a week. I also lift weights to tone, and have been getting decent results. Since I started running, my weight loss has also sped up and been pretty consistent every month. Who knows if there is a correlation.
I do know this. If you want to be thin, you eat right. If you want to be thin and healthy, you eat right and exercise.

I'm 9 weeks post op, but didn't start regular exercise until some where around 6 weeks. I started c25k, and tomorrow I will start in circuit training on off c25k days.
I average about 45 minutes of exercise 5 days a week. Have little interest in doing any more.

I have done really well with hunger issues thru the 2 week liquid diet, and post op so far. Today I am feeling like I want food, but it's not a horrible feeling. Woke up with a Migraine, and it's better. Pain from surgery is doing great. I just feel BLAH! I just want to be in bed and sleep it away. Is this normal. I don't really feel depressed, but blah. Losing weight amazingly, following instructions to the t.

It was normal for me! I day 5 I posted I had reached a "I feel like crap" day. With no specific explanation day six was great and day 7 was bad again. The only motivation was the steady weight ticking off scale. I think these first few weeks are just going to be that way.

I love the responses! My parents have sworn me to secrecy, and one of my siblings doesn't know because he's known for being a blabber mouth.
I've mentioned wanting to have WLS done before to close friends and they almost all discouraged it. You can just work out and diet! Been hearing it for years now. Quite easy for people who have maybe an extra 10 pounds on them/never work out themselves/ haven't lost and gained significant amounts of weight repeatedly to tell you all of that. I even told my psychiatrist and he was ANGRY with me. I was scolded like a child, but I couldn't of cared less. It really is a personal decision.
I don't have an issue with sharing, but I think I'll continue to keep quiet about it. Until and unless I run into someone who is considering WLS themselves and I might be able to offer them insight.

I also didn't have to do a pureed phase. My surgeon's office only does puree for RNY procedures. If you are sick of your shakes try dressing them up, add a tsp of sf pudding mix or sf Torani syrups or PB2. Sometimes just changing the flavor helps.
I do one that I love that is like a starbucks frappuchino, I use 8 ounces unsweetened almond milk, 1 scoop vailla Protein powder, a tbsp. of sf torani caramel Syrup and a squirt of Folgers latte drops (just like Mio but coffee) blens with ice and voila! Makes a 24 ounce shake and has only around 150 calories and the Protein Powder I use is 27 g Protein.< /p>
    Good luck!

I'm lucky that my pre op diet of liquids only is only for one day (my surgery will be on 07/29). However I was required to lose 10% of my weight during the six months of classes I had to take, which was 24 pounds. I went on to lose a bit more than that.
It always amazes me how very different our pre and post op instructions are.

My surgeon didn't have me follow a particular diet. It just had to be 1,000 thousand calories and low carb, high Protein and my liver was fine.

Yesterday on day 4 of my 7 day pre op I had a can of tuna for lunch and one for dinner....I'm only supposed to have Protein bars and shakes and Soup mixes...all given to me by my surgeons office. I haven't been able to choke down some of the shakes because they are just too sweet. I don't have a sweet tooth at all. So I have been literally starving...stomach pains/growling/feeling light headed...the whole thing.
I figured tuna in Water would fill me up because of the Protein and there aren't any carbs so I did it....I cheated...but I was able to sleep all night without waking with hunger pains and like I said...I had not been getting those calories/protien from the snack shakes/puddings.
Now that I am very very close to surgery though I will just have to do my best and not stray from the diet. I'd rather be hungry or force myself to eat that disgusting pudding at this point than do something that will cause me harm during surgery.

try not to worry, I only managed to stick to 10 days out of my 14 day pre-op diet and my surgery went fine. just try to get back on track, I know its hard but the pre-op diet improves the success of the surgery and makes the surgery easier. I stocked up on lots of diet coke and had one every time I felt like I was going to give into temptation. I found it helped a little.

I'm on day 4 of a 20 day liquid only diet. I've cheated each day, sadly. Yesterday I had a bite of a hot dog (no bun), and today I had a piece of cheese. The first day I had a cookie and the day after I had another piece of cheese. I'm not beating myself up over it. Each day I do a little better, and I'm already getting used to drinking my four Protein Shakes and drinking Water. It's a process but I'm trying. Don't beat yourself up. Just keep going. I'm addicted to food, so going completely "cold turkey" is difficult. Its progress not perfection. Lol

You'll probably be ok, but don't keep doing that. My surgery went very smoothly because I followed it very carefully.

I am on day 10 of my diet and have lost 10 pounds. Only allowed 2 Protein Shakes and some raw or steamed veggies daily. Yesterday I had a bit of watermelon. At the movies I had 3 gummie candies and today I had more watermelon. I feel so bad. I hope this doesn't affect my surgery!!

One thing that I found helped was using my son's old toddler spoons and forks. He's 7 now but I still have the Thomas the Train set of spoons and forks and I use those. Little teeny tiny bites - I cut my food up to the same size I used to cut up for him when he was 2 or 3.
Chew everything to the consistency of applesauce before swallowing and one bite at a time.

Cary u good days and bad days. But everyday I am thankful for the choice I made down 43 lbs in 7 weeks never hungry. Yes I have cravings and am not perfect. The days you can't eat it's frustrating. The times I can it worries me like o no I can't do this without my sleeve working. But the best decision I've made next to my wife

Heres the most important tips you need to remember and go over it , over and over and consciously work at.
    1. Make like a train, and Chew Chew Chew.
You must chew each bite many times beyond what you used to. When you think its time to swallow, chew 5 more times to be sure.
    2. Slow and Steady wins the race.
Eating very slowly is your friend. the meal should take you 20 to 30 minutes.
    3. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

Agree with all the above. Also the joy of eating that we had in the past is what got us all into trouble. You must also forge a new relationship with food and eat to live not live to eat. Good luck!

Oh yeah, I'm getting a new doctor. It was pretty ridiculous. He's actually my psychiatrist, but my therapist is the one who actually got me to seriously consider WLS because she had it a year ago!
And she said she could answer any questions I had, which was such a relief!

It may not be a matter of feeling "embarrassed." More, just that it's none of their business.
You knew what you wanted to do, and did. That's what matters.
I only told a very few people; the rest? Nope!

I am four months out and haven't lost any. Only thing I can attribute it to is that I have made sure I get a minimum of 60 grams, and usually closer to 80 grams, of Protein per day. Maybe I've just been lucky so far....
