Support group
So tomorrow I will be going to my first support group for those in post op . I am still in the pre-op face but the doctor suggested visiting the support group and I am really looking forward to this. Any advice on what I should be asking those post up at the support group? I have a basic list of things I'd like to ask but in case I've missed something. Thanks!

Silly question - appendix surgery anything like sleeve?
I know sleeve will be different all together but I have not had much experience with surgery. I did have my appendix taken out and wonder a few things? Is it similar in the sense that I went to sleep fast and woke up like nothing happened (meaning fast)? If I recovered well from that could that indicate an easier recovery from gastric sleeve? (I do know sleeve will be harder just trying to gauge is all) This may be a very silly question but figured I would ask.

Anthem BCBS Ohio
I have Anthem BCBS Ohio and thought I had 6 months but docs office shows it as 3 months. So nervous there will be a mistake but they had it printed to show me. This worries me but so happy for you! Congrats!

CRYING!
Good luck! Again trust me I understand I was devastated about my 6 months and shocked when the new doc said only 3! EVERYTHING I read was 6 months, insurance paperwork is so confusing. The office staff had it printed out and it was only 3!! I still feel good about the prep time just not as much time lol only angry I didn't go sooner so check that out! Now I am hoping for Dec but may have to be Jan, fingers crossed!

CRYING!
I initially went to a doctor and was told I needed the 6 months I was upset but this doctor was also pushing the band when i knew I wanted the sleeve. I chose to "just forget it" and try again on my own. That is when I found this site and starting doing a lot more research. Finally I said enough and I went to a new doc. I expected to be told i needed the 6 months but turns out I only have 3 months. I get it I want it done now as well but in the last month I have learned so much. Time will go by fast and it will be worth it. Hang in there but also make sure you have the right requirements. Someone I know used rolls of quarters and again not advocating it (she needed just a few lbs) but it will go fast and take the time you have to research. You may gain without even trying, I didnt realize I would have to quit smoking so I would probably gain that quick!

Need help to stop the worry - leaks
I feel one of my biggest worries is getting a leak or something just as dangerous. Doing research now but every time I have posted a question or fear every one here has come to help Just looking for some direction and how to handle this big fear. Will I always have the fear? When are you back to a safe place and out of the woods? Thanks!

Phentermine - Thoughts?
Agreed. I took it as more of a kick start while on weight watchers

Phentermine - Thoughts?
I had no problem with it and did very well with it in the past but have heard of many people having issues some serious. To me no big deal, actually have them now (was going to try again before I decided on surgery) it def does work but again some have serious issues. If you decide to take it just make sure if you have any affects you tell your doctor right away to get off it. Mainly I have heard people have rapid heartbeat yes the legal part of phen phen

I think it hit me tonight... my worries
So wanted to post this to get some feedback and also just a post of my A HA moment. I have been going back and forth (which I do for any decision big or small - my issue). I worry about everything and I think one of my issues is that right now I am not doing all I can do but I have for the last 20 years "been there, done that" since I was 16. I think one of my fears is missing food. I don't feel like a big over eater I just always have bad choices. I know what I should eat and have done it many many times. What seems so obvious yet hit me like a nail on the head was I have 2 options. 1 - keep eating as I am and feel sorry for myself 2 - change my lifestyle around eating. With or without surgery I have to do this for my health as well as my mental state (many of my issues are around the way I feel about myself), surgery seems like it will help me better than my past attempts. I think in worrying about missing food I have to remember that even if I don't have the surgery I still have to have a major change in my lifestyle or I will continue to gain. This is more of a message I needed to get off my chest. Today I took some of my first biggest steps. Class 1 of 3. Barium swallow test, EKG and chest xray. I am offically on my way!

Anthem PPO INS
I have Anthem BCBS of OH and everything I read showed 6 months but the insurance person at my doc said it was 3 months and showed me the policy. Careful what you read online as I have heard so many different versions just hoping the insurance pro at my doc is correct - she says she double and triple checked....

Time to "invoke" FMLA
My company if someone is out for 3+ days they automatically get FMLA paperwork filled out. Find the # and call. Employees of mine have been out and then we just get a letter saying they have 2 weeks to have the paperwork sent in - if not approved (this surely would be) they come back to work... No one has ever asked prior to they usually go on it once out in my experience.

Smoking...

How often did you see surgeon pre op?
I went to the seminar and then had my first meeting with my surgeon. I had already looked into this for a while but when I met with him my mind was blank without many questions. Now I find myself with a lot of questions that I'm sure he answered over the three months that I have to wait but just wanted to know how often did everybody meet with your surgeon prior to surgery. As far as I can tell I may only have one more pre-op appointment with him. I'll ask that at my next appointment with NUY but figured I would ask here. Thanks

Pregnancy layer in life
Just wanted to say it's nice to read all of the stories of women getting pregnant later in life. I am 36 years old now 37 this month and I'm having the sleeve hopefully in December. I would like to get pregnant but I was nervous based on my age and getting pregnant after surgery. I was scared that the sleeve would stop working but I just started reading some of these posts and it's making me feel alot better. I too have friends saying why have surgery now and waste it if you get pregnant. I don't know alot about that so I'm going to read these boards. I know the recommendation is 1 - 2 years post op. Thanks for this forum.
