  1. Hey team, i just graduated the options program a week ago today and i have my surgical consult with Dr. Um on 2/1/2016 and i can't find much about him. Everything i have found is awesome, but there just isn't a whole lot, it has me kind of underwhelmed. my roommate had a consult with him before and she said he was nice and knowledgeable, but he turned her down as she had too low of a BMI with no co-morbidity so she doesn't have much nice to say about him haha. Anyways, i guess what i am asking is this: Have you had any experience with Dr. Um? How did your surgery turn out? Are you happy with your level of care provided? Any complications? Any words of wisdom going in? did he have you do a liquid diet prior to surgery? how long? really anything will help me at this point. Thanks in advance!
  2. Anyone in Simi Valley or the surrounding areas who has gone through the sleeve or is planning to? Sound off! I'm Mallory, by the way, and I am going through the Options Program with Kaiser Permanente - Woodland Hills (class starts 10/1/2015! I'm so excited), then my Surgery will take place in West L.A. I am looking to loose about 130 lbs.
  3. Hey everyone, I was sleeved on 2/10/2016 and am down 54 pounds since them, and another 36 pounds before that for a total of 90 pounds down since 10/1/2015. Before I got into the options program at Kaiser, I never had any shoulder problems, however now that I have dropped so much weight so rapidly, my left shoulder blade (some times my right too, but not nearly as bad or as often) has been killing me all the time. this started before surgery and has been getting worse ever since. I know that this sometimes happens with rapid weight loss as your body is trying to account for this new weight distribution, but this really sucks. Have any of you had this intense shoulder pain after you started loosing weight? What did you do that helped? Any input is welcome. **note: I have not previously injured my shoulder, and there were no traumatic events that occurred around the time this started.

    Shoulder Pain after rapid weightloss

I guess I should clarify, by shoulder, I mean my shoulder blade (scapula) close to my spine. Any experience with this?
  6. Okay, sorry I haven't posted. I haven't been on as of late. Surgery was on 2/10/2016. It went great and I am back to work as of 5 weeks ago. My company has a great short term disability program so I was able to take 4 weeks off with no problem. I am eating around 800-1000 calories a day and have been feeling great. I go on walks with some of the girls from the options class on Thursdays and go to the gym with a friend of mine other days of the week. How are all of you doing? Reporting from my hospital bed

Omg, right?!?! I am usually a side or stomach sleeper, but i just cant do it yet. Until that main incision pain goes away. Just the pulling on it is too much even with the compression bandage and the pillow support.

I also joined the losers bench on 2/10/2016. How is your recovery going? The burps sucked yesterday, not so bad today. Hoping my pain level is even lower tomorrow. Most of my pain is in the incisions on the right where to extracted the remnant. How about you?
  9. 2/10/2016!!! They had a cancellation!!! And i found out that dr kim will be assisting! So we kinda have the same doctor!

Thanks everyone and almond_jay i am still doing the sleeve unless doc thinks bypass would be better, but i would prefer the sleeve. Options was wonderful. I am a research junkie so a lot of the stuff i already knew but i did still learn some stuff and made some really good friends. :)

    January or February 2016 Sleevers?

I have kaiser and am set to graduate their program on January 15th. they say that this is the season when everyone signs up for the classes in January (new years resolution) so i am lucky i am already through them, i will likely have sooner options for my surgery date. they said it could be within a month or even less from graduation date. I hope that is true. I have my surgical clearance meeting on Tuesday so we will see how that goes. From looking at the blood work results, everything looks good, and my ekg looked normal so i should be good to go there as well. i haven't seen my chest x-ray yet so i have no idea what that would show since i am an ex smoker. happy thoughts on that please! My roommate is a doctor and he says i have nothing to worry about as they are usually looking for cancer and emphysema, and he said i don't appear to have any symptoms of either. I am sure i will be fine, i just will be relieved to see the clearance team and get my go ahead. I also need to hit 10% total weight loss before surgery and i am well on my way. my goal is to lose that by the end of class. i had 26.6 pounds to lose and since 10/1/2015 (class start date) i have lost 21.56 pounds. 1 month to go, i am positive i can do this!

    Surgical clearance scheduled

down another pound last check in (12/3) hit a plateau but given thanksgiving was the week before, i am cutting myself some slack on not getting more off in two weeks. didn't have class on 12/10, so we will see how i have done this thursday when i have my next class. i have my surgical clearance meeting on tuesday so i may get a sneek peak at my weigh in that day, but if not, i will for sure on thursday. fingers crossed. based on my last weigh in, i have about 5 1/2 pounds to go by 1/15/2015 if i want my surgery right away.
  20. So this thursday i am going in for my blood work as well as a chest xray and an EKG for my surgical clearance. All these tests are being required of everybody in my Options class. On 12/15 i will have a 40-50 minute meeting with a nurse to go over my results and (hopefully)get the medical go ahead on my surgery. Really hoping that all goes well, i really dont want any kind of delay to get in the way. Im not worried about the blood work or the EKG, but after years of being a smoker, even though i have quit for some time now, i will either be really relieved, or find out some really awful news. Loosing my brother in law to lung cancer a few years back really took its toll on my family and i dont want them to have to go through all that again so i will be on pins and needles until next month. Anyone else go through similar feelings about their tests preop? If so, how did you cope until you got your results?

    Surgical clearance scheduled

clocked in at another 4.something pounds down for a total pre-op loss of 20.something pounds. don't have my paper right in front of me, but yeah, i a thrilled with this weeks we

    Surgical clearance scheduled

Yeah i gained .22 pounds at last weeks weigh in after a super stressful week that resulted in not getting enough water and eating around 900 calories a day. My body went into starvation mode and i paid the price. I have gotten my calories back up to 1200-1400 a day, but still working on getting my water in. Still been a tough week to workout as i have been sick to top it all off so i am worried about this weeks weigh in. Wish me luck.
