  1. From left to right, heaviest weight in 2011, then day of pre-op, then today. 120 down from my heaviest, 63 down from surgery on 9/28/15. Still got a long way to go but seeing some progress.
  2. Wow that seems like way too much to lose that fast to reach that six month goal. My dr gave me a goal of 149 to lose by 18 months out and was truly thrilled when I went for my three month check and had lost just under 60. You are doing great losing so much already in the first three months, be proud of yourself and just keep working.

    Tortillas and chips?

I think it really just varies so much from person to person and plan to plan. I too was a chip & savory food type person pre-sleeve and once I was cleared for eating normal foods I have let myself have tortilla chips on a couple of occasions. Now I will say I only let myself have two chips with the meal but it is enough to satisfy the desire for the chip. I am just past three months out and have lost 60lbs since surgery even with the occasional bit of carb (like only once every few weeks). My plan says I could have 1/2 slice bread or few crackers daily but I do not.
  4. I have not heard of any but I would think that after WLS the risk of cancer lessens since obesity is a risk factor in various cancers.

Old Skool Stomach stapling vs VSG

From what I know stomach stapling just sectioned off a part of the stomach to restrict food consumption. There was still the hormones that cause hunger in full force from the entire stomach still being in tact. With the sleeve the part of the stomach that can stretch and the part that makes the hunger hormone is removed so that will never be able to return to what it was prior to surgery.

    Salmon Recipes Please!

Following because I'd like to have some ideas as well.
  7. Thanks for sharing this. I appreciate real posts about the realities. Skin or not you look great and the health benefits are amazing. Great job!
  8. At Christmas an extended family member gave me the "ugh, why did you do THAT to yourself, I'd rather do it the natural way". To which I responded with "I am still doing this the natural way by making the choices to not eat all day and to watch every bite that goes in my mouth and exercising. This surgery simply helped me to be able to manage portion control while I do the work!" Ugh, people make me crazy!

    Bariatric Surgeons in Nashville TN

I don't know what the private pay cost is but I went with Dr Spann through Vanderbilt and he was wonderful and their team is great.
  10. That's where I went for my sleeve with Dr Spann. He is wonderful. I would recommend him to everyone.
  11. My DR believes in getting protein from real food as much as possible so I haven't done protein supplements (bars, powders, etc) since I started real food at a few weeks out except one or two times when I just wasn't able to eat hardly during the day.

Yes it certainly does, and it's not a good feeling.

    September Sleevers

I am doing well, I am down 50 lbs since surgery on 9/28. Feeling good and haven't had any issues other then remembering to make myself slow down when I eat my two or three ounces of food. ????

    post-op poops!

Many people swear by Smooth Move tea. It can be found at Walmart.

    Hiccups!

I think that's definitely my biggest eat issue, eating too quickly. Need to slow down and feel out what's going on. But this saliva thing is annoying. Do you have that issue? For sleeve patient it's often called slimeing or slimeies it happens when eating to fast or eating something too dry or dense. It's the stomach trying to figure out a coating to help digest the food.

    Hiccups!

Happens to me every night at dinner even though I try to eat slow and I measure everything and don't eat more then 2-3 ounces of food.

    Calories

I am ten weeks out and do good to hit 650 calories in a day. And that is with hitting typically 70 grams of protein a day.
  18. Following this thread because I'm interested in the answers myself. I've also been heavy my entire life and seeing the changes are not easy.
  19. So glad he's going to go on the journey with you and be there for you!
  20. I read several, the world according to egg face, the one that the member here @@Smye puts out I think it's call Bari-delicious, 300 pounds down, and the me I am now.

    Protein Ideas?!?!?!

Another option is Kroger brand carb master milk, 1&1/2 cup is 120 calories and 16.5 grams of protein. They have chocolate or regular milk. I use this on days when my protein is too low because I couldn't tolerate protein shakes any longer.
  22. I use MFP but at the end of the day I just don't bother to hit the button about completing the entry, the only purpose that serves is to give an estimate of your projected weight loss at the amount of calories you entered for that day anyway and with being a WLS person that will not be close to accurate. It still shows the totals of all the proteins and nutrients entered for the day.

    Totally nervous.

I wouldn't worry so much, there are some Drs who do these surgeries on people that are 600+ pounds with no problems. I personally was 319 at surgery and had no preop diet except for one day of liquids the day before and I was just fine. Best of luck to you.
  24. I see you posted in the bypass thread I was a sleeve patient but none the less surgery is surgery. I was very selective in who I told because of fear of the negativity. However your husband needs to realize that life changing permanent alterations to your body is by no means an easy way out. Like many others have said it is a tool to aid you in making the changes needed to gain health. Having the sleeve done has been the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but at 9 weeks out and 44 pounds down I am feeling better then I have in a long time. I have three children myself and I was open and honest with them about my choice and that I needed the extra help to lose the weight and they have been so supportive and encouraging as they are seeing the changes in me. I hope all the best for you and hope that you get the family support that you need.

    "Cheating"

Something that has helped me is Kroger has Carbmaster chocolate milk. It helps if I get the rare desire for a taste of something sweet without killing me on carbs or calories and one cup has 11 grams of protein.
