Hi all! I'm scheduled for August 12th with dr. Ponce de leon. Flying in same day. I have been stressing, but think I'm OK now. Anyone else scheduled for the 12th in Tijuana?

I'm having my surgery with Dr. Lopez on August 15th. My wife and I are taking a train from Atlanta to San Diego and then flying back. I've always wanted to take a cross country train trip and this seemed like a good opportunity.

What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous.
    1. Leaving a wife and 2 sons, Husbandless and fatherless.
    2. Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons.
    3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat.
    4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats.
For me, walking through a a department store and some little child looking at me like im a alien had to be one the hardest things.
    Respectfully,
    Joe

That's great! My husband weighed 315 lbs prior to his pre-op diet. A month later and he's in the 270s. His pants are all too big and shirts are listening. It's a great feeling.
Keep up the good work ????

I thought this joke I learned from my teacher may help calm your fears:
" there was a young man who was sailor, while on leave he upset a gypsy who cursed him and said that on his 50th he would die by the hands of an Elephant, he went on to marry, have 2 wonderful kids and a very successful career, then on his 50th he remembered the curse, he called in to work since the circus was in town, a friend called and asked him to go fishing, he declined since the circus was camped by the lake, his wife asked him to go outside with the kids and have a picnic since there was a parade, he once again declined because the Elephants were leading the Parade, at 11:59pm he asked his wife to get the champagne and as he popped the cork he began to countdown, 10,9,8,..... He pooped the cork, it hit the blind, bounced off the couch, brushed a lamp and hit a an ivory 5lb Elephant on the curio cabinet, it fell and hit him on the head killing him him instantly at 50 yrs old"
You can spend your time locked in your world of safety, but it is a world you create and not what life really is!!!!

Well anyway - I love Mexico. I like to go on vacation in Mexico, have opted for surgery in Mexico, and oh how I wish I had some of the corn on the cob with red pepper that they sell on the street in Mexico. I once saw a man pick up an orange, cut it in half, and fill up an 8 oz. glass with juice from that one orange in Mexico. It was delicious.
I have never been mistreated, harmed during surgery, nor have I ever been afraid of my surroundings.
The doctors and nurses that I encountered in Mexico were very informative, professional, and they did their jobs.
I was a chunky girl most of my life. Lose weight, gain it back. That was the story. I chose Mexico because I couldn't qualify under my insurance at the time and I didn't have the outrageous amount of money they wanted if I just paid outright. I got exactly what I asked for in Mexico and they charged me a price I could pay. I love those guys.
This time tomorrow I will be 49 years old. I will walk out my door in the morning and not look like a larda**. And that is thanks to my Dr in Mexico.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. You are right, I have to follow what I know I have researched and not listen to people who have done zero research.

I was beginning to think that I would never be able to have the VSG done. After having to re-schedule my surgery twice and then just postponing it due to personal and financial issues; I finally set a date that I can keep! I will definitely be flying to San Diego on August 20th and having surgery in Tijuana August 21st!
I prayed real hard about my issues and my prayers were answered. I'm ready to start my new journey.

I completely understand your feelings and frustration. I went to my husband and he was about to die. I put him on all the forums for the company I chose to help plan my surgery....ummmmmm....needless to say that didn't help. His focus is the same as katalystic's friend, drug trafficking and organ sales. He further said he's not coming with me because he doesn't support my decision to go to TJ. He's always bringing it up, so finally I said shut up about it. I am not asking for permission I'm telling you what I am going to do. His opinion won't change my mind.
It's sad he's never weighed over 160 lbs soak and wet, but don't understand how I feel carrying 300lbs daily plus 2 stomachs. I'm a cute girl, but taking 4 shots of insulin and 3 blood pressure pills is too much. Let me not even start on all the illness I have developed with being overweight.
My advice is to tell her to fu-- off because until she walks a mile in your shoes dont judge. Either be supportive or shut up!!!

Well, it's no secret on this forum that bariatric surgey will exspose the raw dynamics of your relationships and you find out who supports you and who dissapoints you. The process is a blessing in disguise. Your presumed "friends" will boldly speak out against your choices for your own health care as if it is their business. Do not give away your power. Become your own baiatric evangelist. You can speak up just as much as she can.
You could ask her to explain to you the different types of bariatric surgery and what specifically is the problem with the facility you are going to. Ask her who is the surgeon you will have and how you will be cared for. Ask he is she is willing to "gift" with the funds to have surgery done near your home. You will find that she knows nothing and is not willing to give you a dime. Some friend. Sorry, but it's no loss. Aren't you relieved now that you know what kind of "friend" she really is? Hugs from Miss Mac in Chicago

Today is my third day in Mexico with the Bariatric Pal team company. I had my surgery Thrusday afternoon and now I am enjoying my recovery in their beautiful recovery house II. Dr. Altamirano and David are amazing. I chose to have my surgery with Dr. Altamirano based on his knowledge and true personal caring about his patients. They have made the process very easy, I will reccommend them to everyone I know. I thought coming to another country to have a medical procedure would be scary but it is not. My surgery broke all their protocols that they have in place as I have many allergies but I never was at risk, not once. I felt totally safe and secure and they always make you feel welcome. I have been a nursing for over 11 years and though they do not have the most expensive equipment it works just fine and the hospital is currently being renovated to keep up with the times but it was totally worth it and if I ever need their services again I will chose Dr. Altimarano and Bariatric Pal every time. Oh by the way the surgeon is board certified, so no need to worry. Thanks everyone keep up the good work.
