  1. Hi all, so I've lost 40 kgs in 4 months. I know. Wow. But I still have 10-15 more to go to be happy and now there's this natural slow down in the weight loss. I know it's normal and all, but is there anything I can do to get back to losing? More sports? Less food? Don't know. Anyway thanks.

  5. Hi all, So I'm almost 2 months out of surgery and things are going great, have lost 25 kilos so far, not complaining in the least. my NUT has raised a concern with a recent blood test of me not eating enough protein, but nothing serious, so I'm making an effort. What I AM having trouble with is the drinking rule. So last night I got some chicken and an eggroll (I was authorised to "eat anything" now), and I clocked it to make sure I was waiting 30 minutes. But I still felt full as if I had just finished eating. Also, I don't think I was eating too much. (100 grams of chicken with 2 tiny eggrolls, should be fine, no?) or perhaps I was eating fast again? I was chewing a lot too, so no worries there. But then I went to a movie and was really thirsty. So in the movie I got some ice tea and sipped at it, but immediately felt like I was "dumping", even though the wait was at least 45 minutes if not more after meal. Is this normal at my stage? Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Any insight would be appreciated, cos it is summer and sometimes, having known this issue, i'd almost skip a meal just to get a cold drink! Thanks
  6. Hi all, Thanks for this. I might be rushing it, but it did seem not that much. Also, I am sure my sleeve will be bigger than a woman's - I'm 194cm (6"4'), so... But even if, almost 60 minutes of discomfort is normal if I screw up? Be blessed

    Body fat?

So how do you guys take a reliable body fat reading?
  8. Hi all, so I'm about 6 weeks post op and have lost a whopping 24 kilos so far (!). So no complaints there. I am weighing myself with a Fitbit Aria, which I highly recommend to anybody. If you don't know what it is, check it out. I have noticed that despite my weight loss, my body fat percentage (as taken daily by the Aria), remains always around the 30% mark (BMI 29 give or take). I work out at least twice a week (spin class), but I'm still very weak so I'm not doing "great" at the classes, but the bare minimum. How can I lose weight but no body fat percentage? Am I really just burning muscle? That sucks. Also, eating is still hard for me and I vomit often after dinner. Can't seem to grasp the eat-slow-wait-for-full-signal-chew-well mantra all that well, but I guess this will take time and discipline. But do you have any insights on why my body fat won't go down? Thanks!

    Body fat?

Hi, thanks. I have heard this before; how do you measure your BF then, and get a reliable result?

    Body fat?

By the way, I forgot to say that my Aria says my body weight went up this week (!) by 2.2%. What gives?! Have been eating healthy!
  11. Hey guys so I'm a month plus after surgery, was just wondering when I can start drinking again... Moderately, but still. You gotta live a little, right? Already lost 40 pounds in like a month!

    Alcohol - when?

    NUT is nutritionist, right? Thanks!

    Alcohol - when?

I am aware of all that. When I say drink, I mean on social occasions and not often. To think that I won't drink for a year is unthinkable, so my question really was: when can I drink without it sending me to the floor in spasms? Thanks
  14. Hi all, so I'm one month out of operation exactly and have seen some significant weight loss - 18 kilos, give or take. Not too shabby! I am now starting to go back to the gym - mostly spinning, aerobics, the occasional muscle toning with some weight lifting, nothing major - and was thinking and hearing that, given my reduced Protein intake what with the itty bitty stomach and all (just now starting soft-food diet tomorrow) it would be beneficial for me to take some protein supplements in the form of bars / powders etc. Problem is I have no idea about ANY of these things: could someone who knows point me in the right direction? I am looking, of course, for low-fat and high-protein solutions, just to help me lose weight and build some healthy muscle. What do you recommend? Adding Protein powder to soft foods? Power bars? I'm really not that into shakes, or milk in general... Anyway, thanks for any tips! Love, RB

    Protein boosts?

I wouldn't worry about building muscle any time soon. All of your food is going to go towards repairing your body and energy levels. Once you get closer to your goal weight, then you will have the surplus protein that is used in building muscle. The best you can hope for at this time is lessen the muscle loss. I know I have lost a lot of muscle and strength since surgery. But I still do light weights everytime I go to the gym to keep as much muscle mass as I can. Ok great, so do you recommend the powder just for better handling of muscle loss?

    Protein boosts?

Hey all, thanks for all this info! So I found this awesome shop down the street, and this French chain make their own. It's a 30-grams-per-scoop Protein powder and it's all from milk, and not from cheese, which the guy said was important to bring down fat levels. He also said I should drink it with Water and not add milk if I want to lose weight. Do you think that's a good one? Here's a link (might be in French, sorry): http://www.fitnessboutique.fr/nutrition-sport/whey-proteine/fitnessboutique-harder-whey-harder/prod-fitwhey750cn.html
  17. Hi all, I was operated on June 9th and have since lost 17 kilos (!). So things are going great but I'm getting a feeling I'm about to plateau a bit, which I'd like to avoid if possible. I was thinking it would be time to go back to the gym. My surgeon basically said to go back on July 10th, i.e. a month later, but I was thinking of going tonight. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Going back to gym

Hey people, so I did go and have my spin class, but I was WRECKED on the bike. Don't know if it was the fact that I'm still kinda obese (almost overweight!) or because the surgery's still having an effect on me. I did manage to pull through and do my best for 45 minutes and work up quite a sweat... Going again tomorrow and Saturday! Gonna try to, anyway. Also, did a few sets on the chest pump... Is that bad? thanks everybody!

THANKS everybody! I'll keep you posted

    Going back to gym

Yeah but question remains - can I go to spin class tonight or should I wait? Thanks.

    Going back to gym

Thanks for this. Did I mention I was just going to spin class, not any weight training or nothing? So do you still think I should wait? I'm just an aerobics freak...
  22. Hey all, so I'm 25 days after my operation and have by now lost a whopping 16-17 kilos! So no complaints there. I am now in the mixed foods stage and everybody's been telling me to eat cottage cheese. Slight issue: I live in France where it's virtually all but impossible to get that stuff, which I LOVE. So I lucked out at the organic store today and found some, but it's 4% fat. I wanted to know if 4% is still appropriate to my current and/or long-term diet. I just love this stuff, plus it's a great Protein source, but if 4%'s too fatty... What's your take? Thanks people!

    Cottage cheese question

Hi, thanks! here's a link to the specific product, just learned it's lactose free and considered low in fat... https://www.frischkaese.ch/lactose-free-cottage-cheese.html still good? thanks!
  24. Hi all, so I'm losing weight quickly and safely, T +14 and feeling great, etc., now entering blended foods diet. I was wondering: once I can eat regular food again, can anyone recommend any Snacks that would be good to carry around? In my life, I'm never at home, constantly in trains and the like, and would love if there was a high-Protein thingy I could just carry in my bag at all times. Any thoughts? Thx.

    Portable snacks?

Thanks for this, Bufflehead, but I should have expressed myself better: we are supposed to eat mini-meals every 3-4 hours, so that's what I mean by "snacking"; I can't stay home all day long (work, life, etc.) in order to cook those mini-meals so I was wondering what I could carry with me which would be considered as acceptable, protein-based food. Thanks again, RB
