DojiGirl got a reaction from BLERDgirl in African American vsgers!
I was going back through this list! Love it! Everyone is very encouraging! I read that Blerdgirl likes to keep Protein to 100 grams a day. I usually land about 65-80grams, and just wondered what are some ways that people get in their Proteins.
I drink Isopure which adds 40mg of protein! (Those are my great days!) But even at 4 months out, I still feel like I can't eat much, when it comes to meats.
Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Had my one year follow up today. I truly love my bariatric program. The staff is so positive and encouraging! I started at a really high weigh so I knew this would be a longer journey for me. I was 4.8 lbs shy of my (self imposed) 1 year goal. I had a feeling I wouldn't make it, and was thinking I would be disappointed but I'm not. I think it's in large part due to the reaction of my NP, nurse and nutritionist. They all gave good feedback about how well I was doing from where I started. I discussed with the NUT & NP on what I needed to keep going for this next year. They liked that I exercise regularly, keep my Protein at 100grams or more each day and keep a food log. The NUT said some people slip up because they think they have things under control, stop logging and fall back into bad habits. So I'll drop these 5 lbs, hit my 1 year goal a little late and then make my next goal.

    Congratulations on beginning your journey.
I was sleeves on July 21 of this year.
I am super grateful for no issues, no food problems, etc. I had my 8 week check today and I am at 40lbs.
Only thing I would do different, is not get discouraged during the early stalls. Mine lasted almost 2 weeks...then suddenly, I started dropping. The big the I didn't notice, etc through my clothes and I needed to realize it, I was still losing inches. So now, I just remind myself, it's going to come off, just be patient!

For those of you who have a relaxer still and are worried about Hair loss, I recently had a touch up and a color rinse and I've had no problems with hair loss. I was a little worried since I'm 4.5 months out and apparently that's the prime time for hair loss. Everyone is different of course, but I wanted to share my experience since hair is such a big issue!

You know who says that? People who don't know what "extrapolatability" means.... I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Some days I almost have a defeatist attitude about it, thinking "I'm going to enjoy being thin while I can". But then I get my determination face on and think I just CAN'T go back. I'm just going to have to take it one day at a time, almost like an addict--no, JUST like an addict has to approach their sobriety. I can't worry about the 'what ifs' and worry about the right now. And right now, as of today, I've excerised and eaten right. And that's the plan for tomorrow, too, but I'll take that on when tomorrow comes. I just won't live in constant fear of regain. I can't. I won't.

Had my gastric sleeve surgery on May 11th, 2015 and I couldn't be happier with my progress! Since January, I have lost a total of 100 lbs. I still am having trouble grasping that I lost so much weight in so little time, but I am absolutely ecstatic! I never thought this day would come.
I feel great, clothes fit me better, I'm feeling more confident and I finally feel like I'm working towards the body I've always wanted but never thought I'd have. Not only that, doing every day things is so much easier. I fit into seats better, seat belts fit me, I don't have to squeeze through people when I'm at a party, stairs are much easier, just walking from point a to point b is so much easier. I feel more sociable because I'm less insecure. I find myself wanting to go out and explore new places and mingle with new people. Overall I just feel happier and excited about what's to come.

Usually we ask our primary to recommend a bariatric surgeon. Why not reverse the process and find a bariatric surgeon who will recommend a primary care physician whose sends patients their way? When your primary no longer meets your needs, it's time to look for a different doctor. I would give the medication a brief time time to show you what it can do, but I would not wait months and months. Either it is going to work or it isn't.

I am 51, post-menopause with a starting BMI of 51. I have lost 39 pounds in 10 weeks. I have no idea what I expect to lose and as long as I lose I really don't care. I will admit that when I only lose 1 or 2 pounds a week it can be discouraging but I'm just so happy for my loss so far. One up side is that I have not had a stall. I have lose 1 to 2 pounds a weeks consistently.

I HATE HATE HATE when surgeons throw out random numbers like that! How are you going to feel if you don't lose 80 pounds by 6 months?? Like a failure, right?
It just all depends. Age, gender (men lose faster), starting BMI (the higher the BMI, the more lost as a rule).
To put it in perspective, I lost 83 pounds in A YEAR. I know others who lost more and met their goal way before me.
Try not to get into the trap of comparing your weight loss to others. It will do nothing but cause you endless frustration and de motivate you. As long as you are losing at a fairly steady rate, it's all good

I don't feel like I've lost fast but I've lost pretty consistently over the last 10 months. Just this morning, I went through my journal from the date of surgery to present. I noticed that I didn't lose that much the first week. The second week, I had a pretty strong weight loss and then week 3 - 6, I hit that 3 week stall and everything shut down. I remember at my 6 week visit, the doctor was concerned that I hadn't lost as much as they expected. From then on, my weight loss has been pretty steady.
I agree with previous posters that you have IV fluids in you and not to mention that pain meds can shut down business in the bathroom. All sorts of factors there. These early weeks are no indication of how you will lose long term.

Yep I'm right there with you. I'm losing about the same - 2 lbs a week. I finally decided that 10 lbs a month was going to be my goal and I will live with it.
I'm 52 and post-menopausal and I can't do major exercise because of really bad osteoarthritis in my knees. I have no cartilage left and I'm bone on bone. I start aqua arthritis classes on Monday 3 times a week so I'm hoping that helps.

People didn't start noticing my weight loss until I'd lost like 60 pounds. Oh sure, the ones that knew would comment about it, but people who didn't know never said a word. And when I would ask if they noticed, they would say the same thing as her..."You look the same to me" I would have gone around and been mad at EVERYBODY all the time otherwise!
Don't be mad at her because she didn't notice your weight loss. I don't think her intentions were to disrespect you at all. She was very complimentary otherwise.
How can you be mad at someone for something they don't even know they did?
We kind of started with the same stats. Expect people to really start to notice at another 20 pounds.

A piece of whole wheat bread has 14carbs. A half cup of refried beans has 12. Not a huge difference. Beans are obviously better for the Protein but nothing awful is going to happen from consuming a slice of bread. The carb monster doesn't exist.

Sorry to hear you are having troubles! I'm eating tuna, tilapia, other soft meats, eggs, mashed potatoes, saltines (though not every day and not a lot), cheese... And the damn Protein Shakes still. I'm so over shakes. I'm still not going #2 on a regular basis and when I do I have a mini celebration lol!

@@DojiGirl I am eating toasted bread, turkey and chicken lunch meat, cheese under 5g of fat, soft foods, soft fruits, soft cooked veggies, iceberg lettuce, baked potatoes, crackers, fish, and next week can start having ground beef and ham. Does your nutritionist have a plan for progression on what kinds of foods to reintroduce you can have? I have a new list every week to follow.
