This thread is posted in the "post operation gastric sleeve surgery questions and answers" forum, so anyone may reply. If you want a no newbie place to post, go to the Veterans forum, where the hosts try and keep the posts to those who are over a year out. We try and have some places that Newbies and Vets can talk together as well... like here. Many newbies don't really know there is a difference between how you will feel two months out or two years out... We can discuss that here. I think its good for newlie sleeved people to read the Vets Forum posts as well, eve if they can't post there yet... its is a little look into the future for sure.

Booze, specifically whiskey, is likely the leading cause of me getting to my highest weight. I am proud to say that I have not had a sip of booze in over 2 months. That is the longest it has been in over 15 years!!! not too tempted but the thought still sits in the back of my mind. I know I will drink again, but I won't let it control me. (I am only 6 weeks post-op)

Surgeon said alcohol was OK 48 hours post-op?
    Seriously?!!!!!
    That's crazy to me.

I was told by my surgical team to avoid it forever. Besides, sodas are one of the things that got many of us to the place where we needed surgery. Why go back there? fruit juices and ice cream too!

I think you should wait until Monday to see if your doctor gives you the go ahead. Can you have broth or Soups or something to change it up? Is that on your liquid diet?
I'm not going to tell anyone to go against their surgeons orders. So if you're looking for justification, you aren't getting it from me. Sorry. A lot of us did liquids for 2, 3, 4 weeks or more. I think you need to just suck it up for a few more days.

I told only my husband and two close friends who live 1,000 miles away -- in different directions.
I knew beforehand, based on things both family members and other close friends said, that they knew nothing about WLS and weren't supportive of it. Just imagine how much time you've sunk into educating yourself about WLS and then consider whether you want to put that much effort into educating every Tom, d**k and Harry you know about WLS.
For the record, I've lost / gained weight many times in my life. This time around, my friends / family think I've just finally "succeeded." I've lost 90 pounds in the last year and am 5 pounds under my weight loss goal. Doing great. Feeling good. Looking good. And not having to field any goofy, snarky comments from anyone either.

Before surgery, I would not lose weight even with an intake of 1500 calories a day. And yes, even without the addition of exercise my weight would not back down. I did have severe hypothyroidism, which may have played a huge factor in my inability to lose weight. When I did lose weight, it was only because I got my calories below 1000. Of course, the weight would never stay off very long. I would became terribly hungry and slip up and eat a cookie. With my all or nothing thinking, I would cave in and give up quickly after small slip ups.
My bariatrician made it clear that I could eat a small amount of calories everyday and still be healthy. You just have to be sure to get your Protein, Vitamins, and Water in everyday. So, for the first 6 months after surgery, I restricted my calories to 500-700 per day. Miraculously, I didn't die from hunger or become malnourished. If I wasn't hungry, I didn't force myself to eat. My blood work was good and my energy level was ten times better than before surgery. I ate smarter and hardly ever felt deprived.
At exactly 5 months pre-op, I lost a total of 100 pounds since the date of surgery. My only exercise was a daily hour walk. Oddly, my thyroid condition never has improved. I still stay under 1000-1200 calories a day. Based on my experience, I think starvation mode is a myth and you don't necessarily have to have 1200 calories everyday to be healthy. Yet, everyone is different and what worked for me may not work for all.

My prayers are with you. And just for the record, not everyone regrets having an abortion for the rest of their lives. It was the right decision for me at the time and my biggest feeling was relief.

HelloKitties reacted to JaxBandster in Need to shrink my liver.....fast!!!
Low carb. Sugar is stored in your liver. The first place your body goes for energy (sugar) is your liver. Once that is depleted (and your liver shrinks), it will go to your fat stores for energy. Try to keep your carb level around 30 gms a day. I have been doing that for two weeks and have lost 14 lbs.
One more thing. If you are going to do this and be successful at it, you need to be mentally prepared to follow doctor's instructions to the letter. There is no more putting it off. It is imperative that your liver be in good shape for the surgery. You are a partner in your weight loss team. Your doctor and the band can only do so much. You have to do most of the work. So starting today, resolve that you are going to do what it takes to be a successful loser!
    Good luck!

Hey there everyone! My name is Kelsey, I'm 20 years old. I had my sleeve down at 19 yrs old on November 18. I'll be 6 months out TOMORROW and almost 90lbs down from surgery! From about a size 26, down to a size 16. 10 sizes dropped! From size 3xl shirts to size L. I started at 300lbs, and as of this morning, I am 211! Best decision of my life, even at a young age! I would go back and do it all over again in a heartbeat.

im on my 3rd day since the op, i got released the day after my op on Wednesday, i was great until i was the passenger in a car to get home, that night my gas pains was awful, had to sleep in a recliner. My advice if this happens to you is take your muscle relaxer, it really helps with the gas pains and makes you very mellow. Get some Gas X disolveable strips (they really do work, but dont take more than 8 in 24 hours i took 3 at once my night of pain and it worked). Get some peppermint tea, buy it now before your op, peppermint is fantastic at getting rid of gas, i hate tea of any kind but i would have drank engine oil if it gave me the same relief the pepper mint tea did. Keep taking your pain meds, today i need 3 of the possible 6 allowed. and again walk as said this is the 3rd day since my surgery and today i have walked after each shake or meal if only for 10 minutes each time, you do that 4-5 times a day thats almost an hour of exercise and it really is great for dissipating the gas.
Today i feel no gas pains, if i get a twinge i stand up or sit forward and that solves it, my incisions do not hurt neither.
Another good tip when you have gas pains is where the velcro body brace they give you, will support you when you feel weak.
Today i had Tomato Soup with fat free milk and it tasted like heaven lol basically 1 can is going to be 5 meals for me so eating is cheap.
powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protien powder in my opinion is the best tasting ive had and ive tried a few, mix the chocolate with almond milk and it tastes like store bought chocolate milk except its got almost 30 grams of protien in one shake, thats half to a third of your daily need
Last night when i went to sleep i weighed 296lbs, this morning i was 289lbs, i know a lot of that was due to bloating and fluids but still it put a huge smile on my face knowing that in under 3 weeks iver gone from 309.5 when i started the pre op diet to 289 today, its a good feeling
i will update here every couple of days, ill make it like a small journal just in case you want to pop in and see where im up to and you can tell me your experiences. Its good to talk to others going through the same process as they truly understand..
And good luck @ im 100% sure you will be fine, sounds stupid but enjoy this life changing moment

Had my sleeve done today by Dr Teel at Miami valley hospital in Dayton OH. Let me just say how wonderful this experience has been, I was mentally ready for this and that's what has helped me through.
Had my surgery at 7:45am, surgery complete at 8:30, spent one hour in OR, within another hour I was on my feet walking the halls and have done all day. They use foot markers here with signs every 25 feet, well because i feel so good after my surgery I have walked over 2000 feet, I'm really happy, I have no pain from the surgery just some gas discomfort.
If anyone is worrying about this surgery then please don't. My advice is get mentally prepared, do your research and once its done get on your feet.
I'm doing so well that at 5pm they changed my diet to full liquids instead of tomorrow, still here for the night but will go home knowing this was the right thing and a great experience so far
