grandmaofone got a reaction from gina171 in Insurance assigns a Case Nurse....nice or a trap?
I had a case worker through my insurance company and it was a third party and didn't work for my insurance company but for me!!! It was awesome having someone that was trained and could answer any questions I had. She would also talk to me about my diet and workouts and suggest other things. This was helpful when I couldn't get the doctor to answer my questions. Also I actually only had to talked to her 3-4 times over a 4 month period to get me through to the time of surgery, I am still talking with her to this day(one and half years later). Plus as an added bonus my insurance company mailed me a $300 gift card to Target where I spent it on new clothes to fit me once I got to the size I wanted to be!!!! I will also continue talking with her until I get to my newest goal, she is one of my biggest supporter and I can question her about anything and NEVER has it affected my insurance in any way!!!!!

I had my surgery one year ago today. I have had a roller coaster of ups and downs since then that have affected my journey.
Durning my hospital stay I found out that I was allergic to morphine and got sick for the first two days after surgery. It was painful and when they found out in the middle of the night the first night they took me off and it took 24 hours to clear it all out of my system. Then I was just fine.
I got home and felt fine and did great. Surgery on Monday stayed in hospital till Wednesday evening, came home and talked to all my kiddos as I run a home daycare, went to another room for the rest of the day to rest. The next morning I got up and played with the kiddos and by Monday of the next week I was running my daycare by myself again.
I did great, made a few mistakes and got sick a few times by eating to fast or something I should not have.
Two months later my teenaged daughter tried to over dose due to bullying at her highschool. She was rushed to the hospital barely alive. She was in the hospital for two weeks and it was a rough two weeks. So I was not following my eating plan as I should of been, as I couldn't.
Then about November I started getting a pain in my side. It would hurt all the time while exercising, I would be running on the treadmill and have to hold my side. I told my bariatric dr in December when I went for my check up and he blew me off. A week later I couldn't handle the pain anymore and went to my family dr and he sent me for a cat scan the same day and they found a stone in my gallbladder the size of a manderain orange. They scheduled surgery for December 29. I had surgery and did great.
I had to stop exercising for two weeks as I healed. Then I started back up and have not had any problems since.
As all that was going on my oldest daughter and grandson moved out and my other daughter was remitted back into the mental health ward of the hospital.
Then it was peaceful for a few months, finally and things were going good. My husband started talking about getting the surgery so he started his journey by going to the seminar. He went for his first check up and to meet the doctor. They did some test because of his family history and found out he had a heart attack the week before. So they sent him for more testing and such. They found out it was a minor one that didn't do any damage(Thank God)!!!
Fast forward to today and it has been one year since I had surgery!!! I am feeling great and went from wearing a size 24, XXL to today wearing a size 10 and a med/large shirt. I have so much more energy and I am so much more mobile. I don't know why I didn't do this earlier. Here are some pictures of before and after.
As you can see my grandson was my wake up call that I needed to do something. He just turned two and I am the only one that can keep up with him

I am looking at it from both sides. The first is from me the patient, you should ONLY put on your plate what you are going to eat. This should help with mindless eating as you are talking to friends/relatives. I eat a few bites talk for a while then eat a few more. Then you need to make sure that you are getting in the required Protein and Water everyday. To do this you need to make sure your meal doesn't last longer than 30 mins so you are getting your water in. After 30 mins you should be done eating and wait 30 mins than drink water. If you keep drinking you will feel fuller longer as your stomach as something in it. I was also told the beef was to harsh on my stomach to eat before 6 months. Maybe your dr told you something different.
From the dr's stand point, he is going to ask you if you started out with the recommendations of portion size. I started out eating a tablespoon for the first few days, then went to 2 for about week, and moved on till at 3 months out I was at about 1/4 to 1/2 cup and now at a year out I can eat about 3/4 cup and normally I get full just on the protein still. Then he is also going to ask about fluids, are you getting them in? Are you waiting 30 mins before and after to drink?? As this can wash your food threw before you even benifit from eating it.
It sounds like you are eating protein first so that is not a problem. Then comes the next question: Are you working out??
From the research I have done with trying to figure out which surgery I was getting, I found out that I needed to make the right decision the first time. I found that with the sleeve your majority of the work needs to be done in the first year, after that it is harder to lose weight and requires a lot more exercise to lose after the first year. Also, in researching I found out that revision surgery is 50/50 successful, you have to really work for it.
I would talk with your doctor and your NUT and find a plan that works for you. Each of us are very different and our bodies act and react differently to everything. Talk to your nut about what you can do to be proactive in the first year.
Congrats on your accomplishments so far and keep us informed as to what is going on with you!!! I will be praying that you find a path that will lead you to your Goal!!!!

If you try doing this in the first few months I doubt you will have enough energy or/and your body will go into starvation mode as you will not be taking on very many calories. I would wait till the doctor clears you for doing so.

I always have them. They are dissolve stitches so you can try and pull it alittle and clip it. That is what the dr always tells me to do. Hope that helps!!!

grandmaofone got a reaction from Engteacher in June Sleevers!
I am down 98 pounds, and am struggling to get to 100 by my check up on June 16. I went from a size 24/22 to a size 10 and I actually went and bought a couple of pairs of shorts this weekend. I haven't worn shorts in 25 years!!!!

December 17, 2014 was my date. I weighed 398 pre-surgery and now as of tonight.....So I weighed myself after dinner tonight in my skibbies and I weighed 190!!!! Holy Fu@&ing S#^+!!!! Can't believe it. So I'm probably less because I have food in my system from the day, but holy moly!!!!! To date from surgery a total loss of 208 lbs!!!!! As a teacher at a high school, I'm constantly on the move. I average 15k steps at school alone and then run with the dog in the evening. I credit my doctor, my support system, most of all besides my commitment to this, I thank my wife the most!!
