  3. If your diet has a high amount of Protein and /or your liquid consumption is low they couldn't we'll be kidney stones. I'm having my gallbladder removed in a couple of weeks thanks to stones after losing almost 160 lbs. luckily no symptoms yet but it's chock full of stones. Doc said it was better to do this electively than wait until it was an emergency. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  8. As I write this my daughter is in labor and our first grandchild is soon to make an appearance. This seems like the perfect culmination to a year of incredible change since my sleeve surgery. I;m down over 150 lbs from last year, as well as countless clothing sizes. I'm now making the transition from losing to living and the birth of a grandchild really underscores my amazing transformation. I started this process because my body couldn't handle my weight anymore and I was in pain and feeling helpless. I now feel alive and empowered. I read before surgery about how the after effects were felt in every aspect of your life and i doubted it could be so. Was I wrong.. New found confidence in life and the future are a wonderful bonus form successfully going through the process. I am ready for what will come and I know that my new grandson grandson (and future grandchildren) will greatly benefit from a more involved and active grandfather.

What was your favorite puréed food?

I loved pureed squash and pumpkin. Hummus was also a god send at that point. All three felt really comforting and the thicker consistency was great after the liquid stage. Corttage cheese was also a favorite. I would also blend chicken or beef and vegetable soups into a puree. As the previous poster said, experiment with different foods and textures until you find the one that works best for you. Good luck!

  14. This site and all its members have been a part of my journey since it began over a year ago. The people who seek justification for not following instructions bother me, especially when they get offended when reminded that eating an entire pizza the day after surgery might be a bad idea. But I also remember how crazy and confused the early days were and how reading about others' experiences gave me a notion of what I needed to do. This site, and its honestly, have been a blessing for me. Many are at their most vulnerable when seeking advice and hence the emotional over-reactions. One does get a sense,. however, of when a topic will be heading the wrong way and then you can just switch to the next one. I am definitely a fan of keeping things real.

    July Sleever

I hit my year July 29 and am ecstatic with my results. I'm down almost 150 lbs (a few under goal) and feel better than I have in a very long time. I am now managing to pretty much eat whatever I like, and am still (luckily) making good choices. My real regret is that I haven't gotten back into exercising. I started off strong but slowed down after a few months and just haven't gotten back on track. My goal this year s to focus on exercise and diet to maintain the weight loss and the new found health. Best of luck to everyone and happy one year surgiversary!
  18. I started at just under 350 and never really focused on calories. I set my Protein target at 100 gms per day and made it thanks to Protein shakes. Once on solid foods that translated to about 800 calories a day. After my third month I began increasing what I was eating by increasing my carbs and fats and keeping my protein at 100 gms. As I increased my food intake, I upped my carbs and fats but never dropping below 100 gms of protein per day. I did this in consultation with my doc and it worked for me. I found that when I tried to limit carbs I stalled. What I learned is that this is really something you need to tinker with to find the correct mix for you. Each of us is different and our bodies react differently. Using an app like myfitnesspal to track your food (and doing it consistently and honestly) helps a lot. Right now I am working on finding what the right mix is for maintenance after losing almost 150 lbs. I'm now at about 115 gms protein and carbs and 43 gms of fat per day (about 1300 calories and a 35% protein/35% carbs/30% fat mix). Just remember that targets are just that targets - they are not fixed in stone. Some days you will not meet your target, or will exceed it. It's really a guide to help you learn how to eat correctly. Good luck!

"This was the best thing I ever did"

I'm eleven months out from surgery and almost 150 lbs down. I am lighter than my goal weight and my medical conditions pre-surgery are all gone (high blood pressure, sleep apnea, chronic back and knee pain, limited mobility). I've dropped many sizes, have a body fat percentage in the ideal range for my age, and have so much energy! These past months haven't been a struggle, but they haven't been a cake walk either. But the effort was worth the results. I feel physically and emotionally better than I have in years. As cliche as it sounds, I have given myself a new lease on life, and I am doing everything I can to take advantage of it.

    My gastric sleeve journal

Good luck! Congratulations on taking such an important step to regain your health. I wish you much success!
  21. After about a month post op, I noticed that my mouth was always dry (first time in using CPAP for 5 years that happened). I checked my reports and saw that my average pressure was dropping and by the third month post op it was way down. I consulted my sleep doc, and he suggested I try not sleeping with the cpap. I did that about seven and a half months ago and haven't used it since. I am resting well and according to my wife no longer snoring The weight loss really did the trick!
