    Appeals

I have been bugging my insurance company every 2-3 days for an update on whether I've been approved or not....don't feel bad about calling them. keep calling until you get a response.
  2. same here...I keep calling my insurance every 2-3 days asking for status on whether I have been approved or not. The surgeon's office said they will call me with an update but I just can't wait lol. Be optimistic and hope for the best

    Cigna insurance and weight gain

It depends on your insurance... Aetna says not to gain weight but people have been approved even with weight gain. I need a letter of medical necessity from my pcp too but before the pcp will write the letter I have to come in for blood work. Best of luck to you and call Cigna or go online to see if weight gain is an issue. Don't give up!

  5. I'm not in CA but I've never heard of anyone needing a pap or a mammogram for weight loss surgery... did Medi-Cal tell you that? I needed a chest xray, EKG, pulmonary function test, psych exam and 3 months of dietician /nutritionist visits and 4 visits with my surgeon... good luck!
  6. Yes a lot of people have been nervous prior to surgery. Just know that you will be in great hands surrounded by medical professionals whose best interest is do perform a successful surgery for you. Best wishes to you!

    Dr referral

every insurance is different, therefore the requirements will be different. I work in insurance and I only dealt with Medi-Cal a handful of times. I would suggest calling medi-cal and ask what the requirements are. That way, when it's time to submit everything to medi-cal, you'll be covered. Good luck!
  8. I wish surgeons would stop doing the liquid pre-op. my surgeon doesn't require it. He said 2 weeks before the surgery I'll be put on a low carb-high Protein diet. And it produces the same results that a liquid diet would. I don't think severe diarrhea is normal. Try calling the surgeon to see what he/she suggests. Make sure you drink as much Fluid as possible since you are losing electrolytes because of the diarrhea.

    Struggling

I would say talk to your surgeon and explain the dilemma to him. I told my surgeon that I wanted to take no longer than a week off from work and he agreed I could go back to work in less than a week because I also have a sit down job. Talk nice but firm and let him know that you have to work in order to pay your bills. Also, see if your employer allows "PTO donation". At my previous job, we were able to give our PTO to a fellow employee up to 4 increments at a time. How much time are you looking to be away from work?

When do you get a date

wow I didn't know Aetna was like that. I called them today and a rep said they finally received the request from the surgeon and that it is pending review. I asked the rep when did they receive the request and he couldn't tell me because their system was acting up smh. I hope we both get an approval soon. Thanks so much for the well wishes and I pray it works out for you also @@acyum2008

When do you get a date

I'm having the same issue. I had my final visit on 10/8 and the surgeon's insurance coordinator said she was going to submit my paperwork to Aetna. When I called Aetna on Tuesday for status, they told me they haven't received anything from my surgeon. I am trying to be patient as I know they are busy. I'm going to give my surgeon's office one more week and if Aetna hasn't received anything by next Thursday, I will call the surgeon's office then.
  13. congrats! Just call the surgeon and let them know you've been approved and ask them if they are aware. Don't worry about the what ifs you're going to be just fine!
  14. Just did my final weigh in...the insurance coordinator said she is going to submit the paperwork to Aetna and will call me with an update...my fingers are crossed!

@SLIPSHOD not yet...I called Aetna on Thursday and they told me that the surgeon didn't send in the request until 10/14...the Rep then said it could take up to 15 days for a determination... I hope it doesn't take that long!

  15. Yes he's my surgeon. He's straight forward and a man of few words but I've done my research and he's one of the best. Tiffany is brilliant. She knows her stuff. I think we are in good hands.
  16. Who ever this person is sounds like a troll...I'm assuming this person made a profile to cause a disruption smh
  17. 2 more visits with the surgeon before it's time to submit everything to Aetna. I sure hope I greet approved. I'm so ready to have the surgery done

  18. My NUT is nice but wasn't all that informative. A lot of the info she told me could have been told to me by the surgeon or via online . Its a waste of my time and money but my insurance requires 3 visits with the NUT.
  19. I am in the pre-op stage and I have lost a few pounds. I read that some people didnt want to lose too much weight because they didn't want to be denied by their insurance company. When I told my husband that I was considering doing this , he said he disagreed with me not losing weight on purpose. He feels I should lose as much weight possible, regardless if I am approved for surgery or not. Did anyone keep their weight or BMI the same so that they could have surgery? Is it considered to be selfish?
  20. I appreciate your honesty. I'm so sick of being overweight and I want the surgery as a tool to help me go in the right direction. I have a daughter too and want to be around for her and my husband. I'm tired of not being able to do certain activities without being tired and out of breath.
  21. Oh wow that is awesome! I am worried if lost too much weight then my insurance word deny me for surgery. This gives me hope, I appreciate it. I am proud of the weight I've lost so far.????
  22. Hi Ann, what I was saying was some surgeons want you to lose some weight during the pre op stage, however some people feel if they lost too much weight that their insurance would deny them for surgery. So in other words, people are doing their best to keep their BMI the same so that their chances of getting surgery approved by their insurance. When I considered this, my husband disagreed and said that I should do my best to lose weight regardless if I get approved or not. So I wanted to know was it selfish for someone to purposely not lose weight or lower their BMI
  23. The nurse who assisted the doctor for my test told me her friend has weight loss surgery and should be happy for her, however she wasn't. The nurse said the friend is now as small as she is and seemed envious her friend can now wear a size 10...how shallow lol and smh
