speechick1969 started following Stuck, Hair loss, Hair falling out at 4 1/2 months post-op and and 7 others
-
I lost a ton of hair about 4 - 7 months post op. Probably about half of my hair. I swear by the Hair and nails gummies that have biotin in them. That and getting my protein in really helped. I am 1 1/2 years post op and my hair is thicker than it was before surgery. HTH!

Hair falling out at 4 1/2 months post-op
speechick1969 replied to LoriWhip's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost a ton of hair between 4 - 8 months post op. The volume of my hair was pretty much cut in half. It would come out en masse in the shower, on hair bands, hair brushes, etc... I had bald patches near my temples, similar to where I lost hair when I was breast feeding, and the top of my head was noticeably thinner. I tried oral biotin supplements and nothing seemed to change. The product that really saved me was Nature's Bounty Hair Skin and Nail gummies. It is growing back well since I began these and I have about 2" of new growth all over my head. I did have to get my hair cut a little shorter than usual to even things out, but the ends were just strings anyway. I expected hair loss, but was really shocked by how much I lost and how it stressed me out! -

Sleeved Monday, 3/12/18 & struggling!
speechick1969 replied to gkhtoys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I could hardly get down half a protein shake the first week or so. It took everything i had to stay hydrated so I focused more on that. We were in the middle of Hurricane Harvey so I could not walk outside but walked all I could around the house. The gas will pass when you move and once you poo you will also feel better. Totally normal to feel frustrated right now. Hang in there! -

I was told that drinking during or right after meals would possibly cause dumping syndrome. I didn't think this would be a big deal pre-surgery, but it is actually harder than I thought! I have accidentally taken a few sips before the 30 minute time and been ok, but dumping sounds like no fun so I now set a timer right when I take my last bite.

Thank you, everyone! I eat between 900 - 1200 calories a day and am having trouble losing so all I can think is that I have to do more to boost my metabolism. Working 60 hours a week makes it hard, but I am walking or doing the eliptical when I can. I can try to fit it in more days a week. Those videos look great too! I know if I have more muscle I will lose faster as that increases metabolism too.

I am about 3 months post op and losing very slowly. I am sure it is because I can only fit in exercise about 2x/week I've only done cardio so far. How often do others exercise? When did you start incorporating more than cardio? Thanks1

Salad... what's the deal?
speechick1969 replied to Leo85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dietitian warned us about salads. Said that all the veins in the lettuce make it very hard for the stomach to digest. I am 2 1/2 months post op and had my first salad this week with pretty rumbly results. An apple did the same thing. Almonds make the inside of my stomach sore. Eventually we will adapt, but we are still healing. -
Random foods make me nauseated
speechick1969 replied to speechick1969's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Happened with eggs for me too! Now I can't touch them. So weird! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Tonight shrimp sounded so good. I cooked some with garlic, lime and cilantro, but the minute I was done the thought of it nauseated me! This used to happen when I was pregnant! So frustrating. Does this happen to anyone else? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Feeling the sleeve when drinking?
speechick1969 replied to cp_catcher19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My uneducated guess is that your swelling has gone down so you can take bigger sips. Post op (8/22) I couldn't sip more than a half tsp without pain. Now I can usually take 2-3 normal sips ok. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -

I am about 3 weeks our and protein shakes are almost making me gag. I'm going to try putting Okois yogurt and skim milk in a blender with maybe a quarter cup of protein shake. Hoping that will do it. I also wonder if I am able to eat too much. I can eat about 4-5 Tb ff refried beans thinned with broth. So weird to think that may be too much! Still trying to figure out what it feels like to be "full." Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

What did you wish you knew before surgery?
speechick1969 replied to boltsgirl1012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will burp, all the time, after almost every swallow. At least I do! Overall what I wish I had known though was that the first 3 or 4 days are hard, but after that it is actually pretty easy. -
No bowel movement
speechick1969 replied to graziellabs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second the Smooth Move tea. Much more gentle than Milk of Magnesia for me. It took about 5 days post op for me to have a "regular" BM. It was the day after I drank this. I don't drink it daily, but will drink it again when the problem occurs. -

I'm almost two weeks post op and things have been relatively easy so far. Today, all of a sudden, I have awful reflux. All day. Sometimes to the point of some emesis. Tried a gas x strip, but that didn't touch it. Does anyone know of something to relieve this? Thank you! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

31 lbs is fantastic. I was sleeved on 8/22 and have no idea what I have lost because we had to evacuate due to Hurricane Harvey. I kind of like not weighing and am thinking of not weighing until my 2 week check. Out of surgery I could not drink water without having major, major dry heaves. Even tiny sips sent me into spasms. Try other things. Popsicles and unsweetened tea were easier for me. Crystal Light was easier. Over time I was able to take sips larger than 1/2 tsp at a time and now I can even take two sips in a row...sometimes. I still burp like crazy. Please find something you can drink so you don't end up dehydrated!
