Throat after eating
yes - my breathing tube from surgery scratched my throat so I had a sore throat for maybe 2 weeks. Thankfully there was no cough - just soreness. Got better each day and warm liquids (like broth) helped.

Help! Soft food stage, what can I eat?!
hard boiled egg - I chopped it up into small small pieces.... 1 will fill me up. I also scrambled them with milk. But again - small bites and chew!!! Cottage cheese - 1 oz at a time and see if you could handle a second ounce (i could not for a week) Very very soft melon (like mushy) - like 1/4 cup at a time (and chew it....) I also feel in love with pudding - took my Protein shake (I used pure protein) and added in sugar free pudding powder. Thick and yummy. 1/4 cup at a time... When you are a couple days in - tuna (I used the stuff in a pouch already drained). Maybe 1-2 T in size. I also love white fish - like cod or talapia. Again, small bites, maybe I was eating 1 oz at a time. Hope this help!!! Good luck - and go slow.... Not in a hurry. Let each bite finish before trying another bite. This is where I had the most discomfort - bites too big, not chewing enough, not enough time between.

Question about eating out
When I went out on liquid, I actually go them to give me a latte (Decaf if recommended by your DR). Since it took me a while to drink, I enjoyed this during my first meal out. Plus - its give you your protien. Jenn

Help!
All normal - and yes, happened to me too. Here is what I recommend - do not weigh every day (it will make you crazy). I weigh myself Tuesdays and Friday. Someone explained to me like this... each weight is an adjustment to our bodies. Our bodies wants to stay at the same weight. They think of it as normal. So when we lose weight, our body needs to do an internal reset on what is a normal weight. So think of this as your internal weight begin reset. Give it time and it will drop again. My longest stall so far (surgery was Mar 30) was 18 days. After my 18 days stall, I lost 6 pounds in 3 days. Go figure.....

How many calories are you eating?
I am at 3 months - and I am still 600-650 calories with a target of 60-80 g of Protein. I personally think the focus is on protein more than calories. Really get your protein in.... You are doing good with 500 calories - but remember the protein. For me - at three weeks I started my plan. I eat three meals - usually about 150 calories per meal and I still have one Protein shake (about 150-170).

I can't believe he said that!
What a boob.... Here, give him this article to read - I especially liek the part where Doctors are giving BAD advice. http://www.thelancet.com/journals/landia/article/PIIS2213-8587%2815%2900009-1/abstract And secondly... get a new GI doc. I have a GREAT one.

Insomnia anyone?
I found when I am waking up late at night - its gas *burping" or acid reflux. Watch how late you are eating. Once I stopped eating by 6:30 pm (and only drank later), I got back to normal sleeping.

Vacation
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to holliwood1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AHere are some other ideas... Turkey Jerky - beef jerky. There are to single serving go packs now (check grocery store). String cheese singles - can be out of the fridge for hours Quest Bars - love the lemon one Bring Protein powder and a mixer - take this on every trip with me. Quest has single serving packs - and they are not horrible tasting P3 Oscar Mayer packs - Lunchables for adults (nuts, cheese and turkey) Bring tupperware - when you go out to dinner - order like normal but make portions for leftovers (Breakfast and lunch) - hopefully you have a fridge. And remember - vacation is about getting out and doing stuff not eating.... Have a great time. You will love how you can play and do more than before.

Let's talk about teeth..and stuff
yes - I had it too! I blame the protien shakes more than anything else. Good news... it goes away when you get to "real" food. Here is what I did.... mouthwash, brush, floss. But be careful with the tongue scraper - apparently I went too hard and too often and now I am paying for it. So be gentle with the tongue.

How much have you lost?

Food Scale - do you really need one?
Thoughts? is it worth it or can the eyeball/ image cheat methods work well enough? http://www.healthyeating.org/Healthy-Eating/Healthy-Living/Weight-Management/Article-Viewer/Article/348/correct-portion-sizes-how-to-keep-portion-distortion-in-check.aspx I use this cheat sheet.

Cheated already!
I agree with many of the posts/ replies so far. Try to forget the shame - I know its hard but try. Secondly, kudos for you to acknowledge it. You did it - you thought about it - now plan how not to do it again. You have got this....

Throwing up (sorry for the topic)
So - I am 3 months post op. So far - I do great with eating. Eating nice and slow and no issues. Today - for the first time, in over a month I ate lunch - a deconstructed burrito - Beans, chicken and salsa. This is really part 2 of my burrito from two days ago. After eating, all came back up. I mean - really came back up. I have not had any stomach regurgitation like that since I got food poisoning like 2 years ago. I am sure it's because I ate too fast or I had to large of a piece of chicken. Here is my question. Do I count any of the food in my food journal or just consider it a wash? I am now 3 hours later and enjoying my Protein shake. Just wondering your thoughts? Jenn

Eating out - I just need to vent.
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to jhclikesshopping@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&Ayou all are WONDERFUL!!! Thanks. @ready2droppound - the place is called Town (in San Carlos). Here is the kicker - their sister restaurant Nola in Palo Alto I go to all the time and they great. Such a weird experience for me. Oh well - off to the next adventure

Calorie intake?
I target 70-80 grams of Protein and also keep calories to less than 800. I am usually around 600 with food and then 1 Protein shake for 150 (Pure protein banana flavored is my favorite)

Eating out - I just need to vent.
So first of all - let me apologize. I normally do not complain - like never. But I am so mad right now that I need to do something or I am going to write an Open Table/ Yelp review from hell and the company does not need this. So I live in the SF Bay area. I am 3 months post op. My job makes me travel 25% of the month. Therefore, I eat out often. I have gotten really good as asking for exactly what I want - and people are usually wonderful. Today, we go out to lunch for a team member leaving for another job so we went to a goodbye lunch. I checked out the menu ahead of time and decided on an item on the kids menu ( or a modified entry in case I could not eat on the kids menu). So we get there and I ask for an item on the kids menu that is not on the main menu. I am told no - fine (even though I showed my card). I get it - it's annoying, but I get it. Then the manager comes over and says sorry - we do not allow adults on the kid's menu. Ok fine - did not need the attention. So then, I order the closest item to the kids item on the menu but its chicken and ribs platter. So I ask for just the chicken and a replacement for the potatoes (instead of just chicken/mash potatoes on the kids menu). I am told no substitutions. I said - what? That is never the case. What about food allergies - she said we have a food allergy menu for those people; she says, "we do not customize our entrees". Have you ever heard of something so crazy..... So basically I now have a to go box of ribs, mash potatoes and butter covered veggies that I will never eat. On my way out I decide to pull the manager aside. I told her I have never been so disappointed in my life - I can understand that not eating the kids menu but really, now I have wasted so much food and there was no need. I would have paid the regular price - in fact, I would of paid more for something I really wanted. Thanks for letting me bitch. I will continue to ask for what I want and remind people I do not need the food on the kids menu because I am cheap - I want it for portion control.

Need reassurance
One other thing to consider... I usually gain 1-1.5 pounds when starting my period. Then I lose it again after the cycle is done.

Suggest Unflavored Protein Powder Source
Hi tried the GNC unflavored whey - it's ok. I also tried nectar unflavored - do not like it. It changes the texture of my food. As for Protein shakes - like the pure protein (Trader Joes and Amazon) has them. So far - favorite flavors are banana, Cookies and cream and chocolate. Good luck.

What is one thing you use the most post-op
Water bottle with a small opening so I can take small sips of water small bowls for meals small spoon and fork - so I remember to eat slow. another good reminder - I only eat at the dinner table. No more eating at the coffee table or at my desk (or in my car when driving).

Please Respond!
hi hi!!! So my period after surgery has been something out of a terror movie. I have had 3 since surgery and all are bad..... Cramps = bad. Amount = bad... My surgeon said this is normal (to have an abnormal cycle). He said - they are not sure why but after surgery our periods go out of wack - probably due to hormones in flux. I have taken to the following routine. 1) when cramps are really bad - I got for a walk. The exercise helps. 2) if I cannot walk - take lots of Motrin. 3) take Iron during the periods And each period - I pray this will get better soon. Good luck....

Slimy feeling in your mouth?
Yep - I had it too!!! Mine was from the Protein shakes. Once I got to regular food - it started to disappear. Also - I used a tongue scraper (used for halitosis). Helped a lot!!!

Talk Clothes and Style to Me!
Great topic. I work in the corporate world and this is a big struggle for me. Right now - on non-casual days, I have been using yoga pants with my sweaters and nice shirts. Only recently have my shirts been getting too baggy - but a belt is doing wonders around the waist for my shirts. I imagine I will have to shop soon but so far, the yoga black pants are a god send..... Jenn
