    Hard time losing weight pre-op

Sounds like you need to have a long talk with hubby too. Explain to him that his not eating worries you. When we worry. We often eat. When we eat. We feel guilty. When we feel guilty, we often eat, etc

    Just made decision!

Mine requires 3 months and I'm almost there, but I'm going to try to wait till my daughter's ready. Hers requires 6.

    Feast before famine?

My sister had WLS 10 years ago. She didn't have liquid diet and all. She had last meal diet the night before she went in. Eat it noe cause you ain't eating it again.

    Trial run on pre-op diet

No it doesn't sound weird. Actually, it makes a lot of sense. I've been thinking about doing the same thing myself.

    Small (but amazing) accomplishments

I have never had a problem admitting that I am fat. My children get all ,"Mom, don't say that about yourself!' I'm honest and know what I look like. On the other hand, I take care of myself. I dress in clothes that are attractive, take care that I am neat and clean and sometimes, even take the time to put on make-up. I refuse to be the steriotipical fat woman, slovenly dressed with greasy hair and a candy bar in one hand and a bucket of KFC in the other. I'm also able yo laugh at myself ad seen above as I discribed the antics of simply getting dressed.

    Surgery in am

Thank the good Lord I'm already on opiate pain medication. My Dr may have issues, I don't know, but my pain management Dr doesn't.

    NEW

Wow! That's so great! I am lucky, in that I know several people that have had the surgery and I can just go"hey, how about such 'n such?" And they tell me about how it worked for them. Also, from the beginning, I had a partner. My youngest daughter and I are doing this together. It might be hard, being away from the support of your husband and daughter during the week, but I'm sure you already make each minute with them special. Meals can be really great times for special. I put out nice table cloth with cloth napkins and napkin rings. I use the good dishes and place food in serving bowls, even if it's just me. Sometimes, I even put candled on the table and always have flowers.
  9. Many of us know the morning battle of getting dressed each day. For most people, this is a fairly simple routine, but for the morbidly obese it can be a daunting task. For me it goes sitting on the edge of the bed and placing my pants on the floor, while holding one side. I catch the other side with my left toe (I'm holding them the my right hand), then kind of kick my foot into the leg. Once the left leg is encased, the real battle begins. I have trouble getting my right leg high enough to get it where it belongs, so I have to lift the leg with my hand while trying to hang on to the pants at the same time. By the time I have won this battle with my clothes, or given up in defeat and put on a skirt (yes folks, that's why I wear skirts so often) I feel like I've been "Sweating to the Oldies" with Richard Simmons. The next task is shoes. If I have decided against flip flops that requires placing foot in shoe and getting it as far as my swollen foot will go. Then I either pick up the leg and cross it over the other knee and while holding it in place with one hand, work it in place with the other, or twist it into an unnatural position beside me and work it on. I never buy lace up shoes because we all know where that bow will wind up. Well, I've been doing a lot of walking lately and needed a decent pair of shoes. The pair I had were slipped on canvas shoes that were just not made for that purpose, so I went looking for a pair of athletic shoes that wouldn't kill my budget. The only pair I could find were lace up. I prepared for the up coming battle. First , I loosened up the laces and put my foot in the shoe. With out even thinking about what I was doing, instead of wrestling my leg into position, I reached down, and with very little effort, got my foot the rest of the way in the shoe. Then , amazingly, I proceeded to tie the shoe with the bow in the middle where it belongs. Then I did the same thing with the other shoe. I was so proud of myself that I took a picture and posted it on fb. This morning when I got dressed, I realized when I was done, that I had not gone into battle, but had simply stepped into my pants like everyone else! While I thought this little tale might get a laugh, I also thought it might offer up some encouragement to someone who also wears skirts because they are easier to put on. VIVA LA PANTS AND SHOES!!!!!!!

    Help

I've been doing a fairly good job of staying away from stuff I'm not supposed to eat. I was able to keep carrots and celery and stuff like that that I could use as fillers in my meals. I used small amounts of fruits and berries mixed with plain or sugar free vanilla yogurt. Yogurt made s nice dessert at meals or added to salad as dressing. But it's end of the month and I don't have those right now. I find myself positively longing for some kind of sweet treat. How do I get passed it. Haven't broken yet but Dairy Queen's not that far away. (Also know that something as sweet as a blizzard will probably not even taste that good. My daughter decided I wanted a taste of hers and poked it in my mouth. Too sweet, just the one bite)

I live with my daughter who is the same way. I put my foot down and told her all meals are to be eaten at the table and no snacking in the living room. I enjoy eating out some but it's expensive. Try sitting your wife down and showing her just how much money is spent eating out. Then make an agreement to eat out once or twice a month as a treat. Also show her a list of foods that are not a good idea for you to eat. Explain that some of them can actually make you sick after the surgery. Try to find alternatives. In fact, this months newsletter for this sight has some grilling alternatives in it. You can google recipes for after WLS as well.

    scared.

I only have to have three months. I started walking with a wheeled walker with a seat on it so I could rest. I have degenerative disc disease, and have a lot of pain. I Also have COPD and run out of breath quickly. since I have been walking the muscles in my back have strengthened enough that yesterday I walked several blocks without walker or cane. I feel better and have more energy.

    scared.

Honey, these feeling are in no way unusual. We feel them with most any big life change. The high school grad who decided to go to collage halfway across the country will start feeling like he should stay close to home in case his parents need him. Everyone knows the prewedding jitters. Then there's the widowed mom that has accepted a marriage proposal, only to feel like she's cheating on her late husband. These are all normal reactions to stressful situations. That's all you're having. There is no reason to feel anger or guilt. And it's not like you're taking one of the magic "and you don't have to do anything different to lose weight" pills. You're taking control and making an effort. That says a lot. This is not an easy path we have put ourselves on. It is a lifetime commitment. It is possible to screw the whole thing up if you loose sight of why you're doing it. Keeps your back straight and your head high. Walk proudly my sister in surgery.

    Pre op

Wow girl, your doing awesome! I wish I was doing as well. I had lost 16 lbs in the first 5 weeks after starting my doctor supervised diet and exercise program. Not a pound since. I am 54 stand 5' 5" and, right now, weigh 348. I'm proud of what I have accomplished so far, but really would like to lose more. When this is all over, I'm hoping for about 150, but may drop a little more. When I got the letter from the doctor, telling me that my insurance would pay, I started dancing around singing, "I'm gonna loose a person". I don't know, yet, when to expect my surgery but I'm thinking probably September of October. You know, right at the beginning of that feeding frenzy we all lovingly call " the holidays".
