  1. I'm on day 8 of a 21 day pre-op diet. It's been ok b/c it's not all liquid but it's starting to mess with my head. I've tried the premade shakes but couldn't tolerate them. I'm on the Designer Whey in Chocolate. I have to have those for breakfast and lunch and then a sensible meal with 2 snacks. Hang in there! We'll get through this.

    Pre-Op Diet......Again!

I'm on day 5 of a 3 week pre-op diet. Mine is a shake for breakfast a protein snack, a shake for lunch, a fruit for snack them a "sensible" mealtime include 4 oz of protein 2 servings of starches and 2 servings of veggies. Day 1 was thy worst for me because I wasn't prepared for the shakes. I didn't have ones I liked. But it's gotten better. Thank goodness!

    Time Off of Work

My surgery is June 4th. My doctor told me to expect possibly 4 weeks but I could let them know if I want to go back sooner. The nurse told me that possibly to consider 4 weeks b/c I will still be on a blood thinner and have my follow up appointments until then. If you have STD, then consider taking the 4 weeks. It's there for a reason. When will you ever get this opportunity to take the time off to do something like this for yourself to make you healthy? That's how I look at it. I'm lucky enough that if I do decide I want to come back early, my job will let me work from home. Good luck and I hope you make the best decision for you.
  4. I went to my first required seminar on March 14th. My first appointment with the doctor was on March 23rd. I had my required psych appointment on April 3rd and had an EGD for April 20th and found out that I had a hiatal hernia. I was approved by my insurance on April 23rd. I'm very surprised how quickly my insurance approved the surgery. It is something that I've needed for quite sometime. I have type 2 diabetes, high BP, and found out in February that I had sleep Apnea. When they told me a few weeks after starting on my CPAP that I needed to add oxygen at night to the CPAP, I really freaked out and that pushed me over the edge to get this surgery process started. The thought of being 37 years old and being on oxygen wasn't my idea of an ideal situation. I go on Wednesday May 6th to see the nutritionist for my 4 week pre-op diet. I'm not looking forward to it but I know that since my BMI is over 50 they it is needed to shrink my liver. I hope and pray that it will be a quick and easy 4 weeks but I wouldn't be as big as I am if things were easy. Things have gone so fast and everything has seemed to be green-lighted up through now, that I can't afford to screw up this final piece of the journey before the surgery journey begins! Everyone that I have told has been really excited for me. My boss actually hugged me and seems really happy! I just hope this continues and I have great results. I've read the forums here and on other sites and know that I will have to make serious changes. I'll have to eat my Protein first, sip sip sip that Water, exercise, and know there will be stalls along the way. Time is going to move anyway, so I might as well be ready for all the ups and downs anyway! Any feedback you can give about pre-op diets, post-op diets, recipes, etc are always helpful! Thanks in advance for your advice!

    Anyone in SC?

I live in Columbia and going through Riverside Surgical. My surgery date is June 4th with Dr. Strickland. I meet with the nutritionist on Wednesday May 6th to find out about my 4 week pre-op diet. (not really excited about that!) Anyone had any dealings with Riverside and an idea of the pre-op diet? Things are about to get real, very fast! Thanks for the feedback!
