The more protein you eat the better...starches should be limited

Plateau
Plateau's are going to happen. With rapid weight loss the body has to play catch up. Fluid intake is a key component tho so really try to get it in. You will definitely notice a difference when you drink enough! Good luck!

1 Question for everyone
That I had an unhealthy relationship with food. It isn't a social event or just something to do when I am bored. That I would rather be healthy than fat. I am sure there are more lessons to come but that is a start!

Someone please answer!
Totally agree... with regard to the amount you are eating, try not to eat more. at this stage according to my nutritionist I should be able to eat 4 ounces, so I measure my food. I don't wish to stretch my sleeve which is possible to do. Check with your nutritionist and see what their plan is for you and measure. Idk if we can really rely on "feeling full" anymore. Good luck!

Hello everyone!
Welcome Nellie! Congrats on making a life changing decision! I am also so sorry that you have not been supported. People can be so mean and it just means they are unhappy within themselves so they have to bring you down to make themselves feel better. You will be a huge success and then they will be jealous of that...just know you are doing the right thing and look to where you will be a year from now. Good luck on your journey!!

3 weeks pre op vertical sleeve
I am 11 days post-op and I read everything I could get my hands on. I researched the foods I would be eating after surgery and went ahead and cut out all the bad stuff. I researched what I could eat at each stage and prepared for them but noting things I could do to make it less boring and flavorful without adding calories. It was less of a shock than abruptly changing after surgery when I had so much more going on as well. I am currently in the soft food phase and its great! I had some nervous moments before surgery also but it has been amazing so far and I am excited for you both!! Good luck and see you on the loser's bench.

Used to small meals 4-6 per day is this BAD?
No butt kicking needed. At least you decided for yourself to do something about it. Old habits die hard right? I am 11 days post-op and my nutritionist says 3 meals 2 Snacks. All nutritionists are different so I am just sharing what mine says. I am on soft foods at present but my extended plan is still 600-800 calories a day between 3 meals and 2 snacks. She says to get between 60-80 grams of Protein a day. Very important is to not add calories due to exercise. If you eat more because you are exercising you will not lose, the exercise is to burn what you eat. I would say that's a good place to start. Good luck!!

Insurance lingo hepl
Deductible is when your insurance says you have to pay a certain amount before they will begin paying. The bills are applied to your deductible and once it is met, your insurance kicks in. Co-insurance is when you pay part and your insurance pays a part of the bill. Max out of pocket of when there is a limit to how much in a year you are expected to pay. When your portions add up to the max out of pocket, you don't pay any more for the year. When amounts are applied, they are the allowed amounts not the full bill. The provider and the insurance company in their contract have an agreed upon amount that will be considered for all procedures. THAT is the amount considered not the full bill. All amounts you pay are figured based on the allowed amount not the billed amount. Hope that helps. Message me if you have any other questions!!

Fears
I had that same fear pre-op. But I will say being on this forum and reading all the wonderful success stories, advice and even the small victories is a huge inspiration. I am 10 days post-op now and all total with pre-op eating changes I am down 50 pounds! I think that fear of failure is a common theme with us all. We have all failed before and this is a drastic change. But, It IS a tool and it is up to us to use it. Take a deep breath and just move forward. Success is waiting for us all!!!!

spaghetti squash
Yikes! Yes good advice, I know we still have to always eat Protein first so I know there won't be much room for the squash.

Post surgery wardrobe
Already packing up some stuff for Goodwill...I agree, I don't want them in my closet. My mentality is I will never need them again so I am making room. I will shop sales and Goodwill. As I lose I am only going to buy a few pieces to get me by at each stage until I am at goal weight then its a shopping spree for me!

Hello
If you are struggling, maybe try soft foods instead before "solids". They are much easier on your sleeve and can pave the way for a smoother transition. It can't hurt. If something is too hard, take a step back and try again.

spaghetti squash
Spaghetti squash "should" be included because it is cooked and you are not eating the rind. I plan on getting one of those spiralizers and making noodles out of veggies myself!

I'm driving myself crazy
As I understand it, for every significant drop in weight the body "resets". The weight will come off but maybe not as rapidly as you would like. You didn't mention exercise, are you walking? Go a little further every day, not only will it help to lose but you need to build your strength back. You are still recovering from surgery so know that also. The surgery is a tool not the answer, so look at all components of what you are doing. Good luck!!

Newb here. Starting the process. Appt is June 15th
The best decision you can make is to do something to improve your health. I am one week and one day post op and the only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. It is definitely not the easy way out. Those who say that just think the surgery makes you lose the weight. The reality is that it is a tool along with better eating habits, the fact your food volume is severely reduced and you still must exercise. The pre-op diet wasn't that big of a deal for me. I had to do 2 weeks of it and I lost 20 pounds in those 2 weeks so it gave me motivation to get to the finish line of it. Once I got into the routine of it I didn't even eat the freebies like broth! I changed my eating habits at my consult at end of January this year, had surgery May 15th and with all I did lost 48 pounds so far. You will be amazed how well you an do with the tools you are given. Good for you for starting the process again! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!!

Did you have to cut ALL starches?
In my post I was saying that in order for us all to be successful we must change our eating habits for life. I do realize we are all human and we will slip now and again, The point being that in order to be successful we must make changes and realize that the foods we ate before CLEARLY do not work for us. Yes you can have a burger, just do bunless and add toppings that are healthy and no fries or only a few and eat them after you have eaten your Protein if you have room. Yes you can do sugar-free dessert or make a great dessert Protein shake with addins to make it a key lime pie, or reeses shake or even angel food cake with fruit and fat free whipped topping. Anyone can do what they want but like I said, it's all what you want to achieve. I personally want to achieve my goal weight and am not trying to justify eating off plan. That's my decision and it may not be the one for everyone, but I am looking to succeed. Moderation is not an option to me right now because I have my eyes on my goal weight. Those foods got me where I am and they will not sabotage me ever again! I am forging a new relationship with food, a more healthy one. Just my 2 cents.
