I was able to tolerate 2 oz of Protein shake the 3rd day after and now I am up to 5 oz at each sitting. I do get hungry after about 30 min to an hour but make sure I sip Water or drink so I can hydrate enough. The Soup is good but the Protein is what will make you feel a bit fuller. I still struggle with being hungry in between but use that as an excuse to drink more fluids. I have also been writing down how much each time on a tablet.
    Hope this helps some.

Do you like yogurt? Greek yogurt is pretty high in Protein. Have you talked to your nutritionist? She might have some suggestions. You can try pureeing Beans or cooked meat and thinning them down with broth. Spinach is also a good protein veg, as well as a good source of Iron, and it may help prevent Constipation. Add that to your puree.

Yes, I liked both the chicken and the Tomato Soup. I've had wild berry, grape, orange, peach mango, and tea cranberry so far. They are all ok. The peach mango and tea cranberry are my favorite concentrates so far.

For sure, this! You should be consuming Protein and Water on a timer right now. Not waiting for signs of hunger or thirst.

I was given ProtiDiet liquid concentrate in the hospital and brought some home. I put it over crushed ice and just take little sips all day. I also added in premier Protein, ProtiDiet chicken and Tomato Soups. In addition to Water I am just sipping all day. I certainly wouldn't wait until you feel hungry to start drinking your Water or Protein or you never will get it all in.
    Best of luck.

I am 2 days post -op as well. I have been sleeping on the recliner the past 2 nights and it has been good for me. How is your pain level?

In time. I am finally drinking normal now, only about 1/2 cup at a time, though. It took me about 3 months to get to feeling "normal" about drinking. But at least it doesn't feel like a ton of bricks hitting a wall anymore. I had a hiatal hernia repair, which really slowed down the drinking. My NUT suggested water-enhancer drops to help get fluids in, and also using tepid Water, especially first thing in the morning. She also suggested, when your on solid foods, to start by eating a couple of bites of very soft food, to "prime" the tummy, before eating anything hard or crunchy. It all helped, but I think time was the biggest healer. Good luck to you!

I had mine on 4/20/15 also. How is your recovery going? Mine was rough the day after but today has been getting better.

I am 6 days post-op and that was an issue for about 4 days. Felt like I had something in my throat I couldn't swallow part of the time and the other like something coming up. An ice pack on the front of my throat seemed to really help. The hospital staff did confirm that was from the intubation tube. Once that irritation went away things have gone much smoother.

When I was fresh out of surgery (72 hours) it was very difficult to take in fluids. Obviously, don't force it down, but stay with it. Eventually your stomach will heal up a little bit an you'll be abcontinue drinking. Don't stress. Look for obvious signs of dehydration if you don't think you are getting enough Fluid.
Keep it up! You're doing great

I couldn't even tolerate ice chips on day 2. They just made me spit up foam. By the third day I was able to take small sips and get down 2 Protein drinks and 2 bottles of Water. After the first week, I haven't had any problems at all... I drink almost like I did before surgery.

Yes, the day after surgery my throat and upper chest (like the top of my cleavage) was sore. I think it was from the breathing tube. I forced myself to drink and eat ice. It did not go away completely I am now 7 days post op but it is getting better.

11 days out of surgery and I can tell you that it gets easier every day. Same issues as you but doing well now. Just remember...sips not gulps as you move forward.
