I didn't cheat. What was the point? As mortified as I was that I had to resort to surgery to help me lose weight, imagine how even more mortified it would have been to have found out that I didn't have surgery because my liver wasn't shrunk enough. Some tough love here coach....if you are thinking about how to cheat and you haven't even had surgery yet, you might find it difficult to have the success you must want so badly. Really dude...follow the rules. If you don't, you may be going under the knife for nothing.

I'm not going to lie. The liquid phase of this IS the worse and to me was the hardest part. However its only a short term thing. I'm only 5 mo post op but that phase feels like a distant memory. Keep it up!

      ShrinkingPeach

The liquid diet is absolutely the toughest thing I think. Your liver needs to be in the safest possible condition for surgery so hang in there!

When I had the band I lost my weight over a year period. My arms were a little flabby but not a lot of skin. I was able to tone as I went. Most people that didn't know me when I was heavy could not believe I was ever that big.

I had to pay for the nut and the psyche eval out of pocket. I just sucked it up and paid it and considered it the cost of doing business. Don't get hung up on this one thing. Keep your focus on your goal of getting WLS. Which doctor are you using there? I used Dr. Ren based on a friend's recommendation and I've been very happy with her.

  11. PREMADE PROTEIN SHAKES VS PROTEIN POWDER IS IT ALL THE SAME BEFORE PRE OP LAPBAND

    1. Mountaingal

      Mountaingal

The premade shakes are very smooth and also quite sweet. With the mix you have more choice of flavors and textures (mix and match as you make them too) and I find they seem be more filling. Use two scoops and you can up the protein content without drinking two ready mades. That said some powders are very chalky and some are wonderful (I particularly like Unjury). You can also choose your source of protein with powders. There are many vegetable based ones as well as whey and soy based ones. Good luck.

    2. coachk11233

      coachk11233

where did you buy you unjury at

    3. ProudGrammy

      ProudGrammy

i love the GNC lean shakes

      170 calories

      25 gr of protein

      taste good (to me)

don't have to mess around making

      i drink the swiss choocolate

      yum, yum

  12. UNJURY Chicken Soup ???

    1. Mountaingal

      Mountaingal

Smooth, clear, good flavor just a mite salty for me but I live on a low salt diet. Give it a shot!

  15. i dont understand why you need to speak to a shrink for approval of any weight loss surgery !!

    1. New Nina

      New Nina

I think they are trying to rule out patients who think that all of life's problems will disappear and you will turn into Angelina Jolie and live happily ever with Brad

    2. Djmohr

      Djmohr

They assess why you have gotten to this point and try to understand your triggers. Just because you get the physical part taken care of does not mean you will be successful. You have to take care of the mental part of obesity as well. These guys really can help you work through the whys behind it.

    3. gowalking

      gowalking

agree with the posters above. many people use food to deal with emotional issues as well but that is something that can be tackled by a therapist who is recommended to you if you feel you need it. This is for insurance purposes and to assess you are not bulimic or a binge eater.

  18. lap band diet starts rite now and i dont know what type of soup to eat

    1. Djmohr

      Djmohr

I would call your surgeons office for advice. My liquid diet only included clear broth but some doctors allow creamed soups. Give them a call to confirm his/her orders.

    2. gowalking

      gowalking

Hi coach. you should have gotten instructions on what you can and cannot eat/drink. I recall we were told clear broth only. no creamed soups. I had chicken and beef consomme only. That's why I added the veggies to make it more 'filling'. Call the office and talk to one of the NUTS. They can guide you. I'm helping you as much as possible but my pre-op diet was 2 1/2 years ago and I can't recall all of the directions exactly.

  19. so nyu wont submit the paperwork until i pay the 250 fee for the dietitian

    1. gowalking

      gowalking

You're not going to let that stop you I hope. You'll also have to pay for the one therapy session you have to have with Huberman. The dietician is more important than the psyche visit you'll have to do.

    2. coachk11233

      coachk11233

i got a therapy sesssion from someone thru united health care so i just had to pay my 5.00 co pay and the letter was paid for thru the insurance plan

  21. lap band surgery coming soon ........

    1. lexiemia

      lexiemia

I had a lap band in 2004. Did great for 10 years. Lost 100 lbs. last year got a virus and was vomiting. My band slipped and now I have to have it removed and converted to a sleeve. I don!t regret having the band at all. It's a day by day thing learning how to eat. You may not tolerate the same food two days in a row. I did on occasion have a mixed drink and was fine with it but you have to be aware that liquids go down real easy and you have to really watch the calories for that reason. I had to learn that a frappe was my enemy. I wish you the best of luck.

  24. did anyones health care cover excess skin surgery ?? if so

    1. JamieLogical

      JamieLogical

My health insurance policy explicitly states it won't cover skin removal surgery post-WLS. I paid for my skin surgery out of pocket in Mexico. Had a great experience and ended up really glad I had to pay for it myself, because the level of care and personal attention I received in Mexico was WAY above and beyond anything I would have received in the US.

    2. KellyKell

      KellyKell

Blue Cross Blue Shield has covered it in the past. That was a few years ago so I am not sure about now.
