Newbie - How do I choose?
If you have reflux I've heard the sleeve makes that worse. To many people manage to gain weight again with the lap band and to many complications with it, sure the surgery itself is easier but you want something that is going to work long term for you.

This is me
Oh girl I know how you feel! I'm a nurse also and I hate to even tell my patients that they should eat better, I feel like such a hypocrite! We know the health risk, we know how to loose weight, we know the benefits of exercise, etc but it doesn't make it any easier to do just because we know the information! Stop beating yourself up and take care of you! Your not alone, there are a bunch of us on this site who feel the same way! I have so many people telling me that I just need to get serious about weight loss, that I can do it on my own and that I don't need surgery. Well if that were the case don't ya think I would have already done it! I'm a food addict, I need a little help!

Pre op
Being short does not help matters when it comes to weight! I'm 5"1 if I stand up real tall and stretch! I do believe my highest was 240 which is more than I weighed when I was pregnant with either of my girls! I didn't have to do any diet ahead of time to get the surgery approved or have a supervised weight loss history so I didn't even try after I heard I was eligible for the surgery, in fact I ate everything in site, kind of a funeral for all my favorite foods! My surgery is June 1st so I started my pre-op liquids only diet Monday and I've lost 7 lbs doing that! It's been really hard but at least I know It's not forever.

I'll try and explain...
I haven't even had the surgery yet and I'm already afraid to eat! Afraid I'll mess up my surgery or I'll hurt myself, afraid I'll get sick, or WORSE gain weight!

June 18th: Looking for a compadre for this journey
I have tried a ton of different Protein drinks. So far I'm not crazy about any of them but as long as I stick to chocolate none of them are to bad either. For the price and taste I think I like Premier Protein. It's easy to find at Walmart, Sams club or even Krogers.

This actually happened tonight!
You have a right to complain! As a nurse myself I feel that is bad patient care and just in bad taste! Why are you still in the hospital?

4 days post op
Because weight loss is just as much mental as it is physical. You are used to using food to comfort you, don't have that now. Going to be hard to find something else. Have to find and learn new coping mechanisms. The food you have always depended on isn't an option. Good luck! On another note, how are you feeling physically?

The Pre-Op Journey
Congratulations on the quit smoking! That's a huge deal! I wish I had wisdom to impart but I don't! Just encouragement, hang in there!

scared.
We've all been there, dealing with the nay sayers and negative talk. But in the end it's your life and your body. It's saving your life and giving you a better quality of life. They just don't understand, they will see the difference. You will still have to do the work, WLS is just a tool. You will still have to change your habits, eat right and exercise. But the surgery makes that possible. Maybe even take a family member with you to the seminar, so they can learn and shift the rest of the family, or at least give you one person who understands. Oh BTW, I'm a Texas girl, where are you? I'm in the DFW area.

Sick before surgery

1 night hospital stay?
I'm one night also. That's pretty standard. If the doc feels like he needs to keep you longer they just call insurance company back and explain "need"
