Congratulations! I remember what my first cheese day was like! I was so excited to find I could eat cheese and still eat it almost every day. Just like I remember my first chicken breast post surgery, and I don't mean puréed. It was the best thing I ever put in my mouth, I swear!

  5. First NSV! I'm down a size in pants and the scrub tops I bought in the next size smaller are too big!!! YES!

  9. So how are you doing?

  10. Hang in there, fight, fight, fight!

  11. Getting really sad. I'm not suppose to eat real food till 12 weeks out and for now everything I eat seems to give me nausea except for yogurt and I'm really getting tired of yogurt. I've lost 20 lbs since surgery and that really doesn't seem like much to me. I'm getting really down, only 20 lbs and can't eat anything but yogurt! It just seems like for all this trouble I should either lose more weight or be able to at least eat some mashed potatoes or beans!

I messed up, it is 6 weeks I get to try real foods, slowly. I was doing ok with several things until about a week ago and all of a sudden everything I eat upsets my tummy. Hope it goes away as weirdly as it came on!! How's the weight loss going? Are you able to do any exercise yet?

Well to add insult to injury, I got a stress fracture in my heel back when I first started this process in February. I was in a orthopedic boot for 9 weeks (including while I was in the hospital for surgery), so the boot is off but I still have pain which they think is plantar fasciitis. I have walked and rode a bike. There is a gym close enough to my home to walk, so Sunday I walked up there and rode the bike and walked back. :) Good workout but boy did I hurt later. Maybe not quite ready for 45 minute work out. All to say, I have not been consistent for sure. Tough to do when you feel like crap! When I do though, I lose more! Re weight loss not as much since surgery date as I hoped - I think it's 16 pounds? Since pre-op liquid diet, it's like 26 pounds? But all the way back to February when I first had my apt and started the 3 month NUT visits, I am down 42, so I am happy with that number. Just surprised it's not more since surgery given I am only eating about 600 calories a day! Oh well.... it will come off. I haven't seemed to hit a stall like everyone else has week 3, so maybe that's a good sign that it is just steadily coming off. Glad to hear it is only 6 weeks. That's much better! Hope the upset tummy goes away for you soon! Not fun!

I had plantar fasciitis before, had to get steroid shots in my foot before I would go on vacation just to make sure I would be able to walk and enjoy vacations! Then I started wearing Crocs all the time during the week and it healed up. Wore them for about two years and now I wear whatever tennis shoes I want to wear with my scrubs. Did they give you exercises to do to stretch the ligament? Try wearing Crocs or shoes with really good arch support. WOW 45 minutes is awesome, were you doing that before surgery? If not then you probably should back down a bit. What gym are you walking to? I have a membership at LA Fitness out there. I've lost 15.9 since surgery and 22.5 since the week before surgery when I started the liquid diet. I had hoped for more also. I wonder how much I have to lose to change pants sizes? 42 pounds is a lot!! Your doing great! Hang in there!

  12. Am I normal? I have lost 22 lbs since the week before surgery when I started the liquid diet and I can only eat two or three bites before I get that pressure in my chest?

    1. BLERDgirl

      BLERDgirl

      Yes, perfectly normal.

    2. Spiceyfrog

      Spiceyfrog

I would say yes. I am three weeks post-op and after I had switched to soft foods, I had ate 1/2 cup of creamed soup a couple days in a row, then all of the sudden I got that pain. The following day I cut back to 1/4 cup and have been fine since.

It is so hard to eat more often and follow the 30/30 rule, because now that I am eating, I am not getting 64 ounces in. It's a catch 22!

    3. BLERDgirl

      BLERDgirl

Try eating less and eating slower, even when it's something like soup. Also try standing up and walking after eating.

  13. Does anyone have problems feeling like the air they are breathing is dusty or like your in a smoke filled room?

    1. ShrinkingPeach

      ShrinkingPeach

Haven't had that problem. How far out are you?

    2. sparksrn

      19 days now

    3. ShrinkingPeach

      ShrinkingPeach

Hmmm...did they ask you to use an incentive spirometer? Are you moving around as much as you can? It may be from the anesthesia, sometimes that affects people's lungs and deep breathing helps clear it out. If it continues call your surgeon's office to ask.

  14. Day 15 post op. Still trying to figure out this soft food diet thing. One bite to much gives me pain at my lower sternum but can't figure out when that one bite is until I've already taken it!

  15. So how are you doing? My surgery was June 1st. I got to start soft foods this week. It's a challenge at first but you'll get used to it in no time!

  16. What am I doing wrong? I just started soft foods and it's not going well. I take a few bites, chewed very well and spaced well and it feels like it's stuck in my chest!

You may not be doing anything wrong - the switch over date is a guideline. You might just need to back down for another day or two then try again. It gets better!

  17. Today is my first day back at work. Doing pretty good, kind of tired and a little sore still on the left but I have a desk job so I'm doing ok. I really haven't had any problems at all! Still on liquids, go to soft diet on Monday!

Congrats, back at work! You go from liquids to soft? I had to go from liquids to pureed diet to soft diet. I'm still partially on pureed diet, taking the leap into soft diet veryyyyy slowly. Good luck with everything!

Surgery was June 1st. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I tried soft foods and after just a little bit it feels stuck in my esophagus like a swallowed a huge gobstopper and it hurts!

  18. So tomorrow is the big day! So nervous!

wow, mine sure has. Smell is really heightened and every thing tastes so sweet. I was in the bedroom and knew my husband had cut a watermelon in the kitchen because I could smell it.

      sparksrn

Wow! The only thing I have noticed is the air feels dusty or like I'm in a smoke filled room at times.

  19. Feeling a little better today, after yesterdays 0.2 gain I lost 2.2 yesterday on my pre-op liquid diet. Come on June 1st!

Good job! :) Isn't it a neat thought that the people we are at this moment are going to change so much? I mean of course we'll essentially still be who we are but so much is going to change! Excited for you :)

  20. Started liquid pre-op diet on Monday, Memorial day! Really really struggling! I gained 0.2 lbs yesterday on just 525 calories of liquids!! How does that happen??

  22. Good luck! What surgery are you having? Are you on a liquid prep diet? I'm scheduled for June 1st

Just started the liquid diet. Interesting feeling so far (after a whole 3 hours :-)), I don't feel hungry but I feel empty. Does that make sense?

    4. sparksrn

      sparksrn

Sylvia13 if definitely makes sense. I had to do liquids for 24 hours for an endoscopy they wanted to do before insurance would ok my surgery and after just one day the thought of a whole week is very scary!
