slvarltx reacted to Proud2BMe in Alcohol Addiction
Just wanted to update that I've been given some great advice in personal messages and some good websites. I'm doing a tapering method and have turned over my liquor to my roommates who will be dispersing it to me. Today I'm logging everything and tomorrow starts the tapering. The good thing is that I've been doing shots and not just taking swigs so this will be relatively easy to taper off from. I'm breaking it down to morning, afternoon and evening. And will keep to that schedule until I'm doing about half shot at each time and then try to stop completely at that point. Like this morning I only did 4 shots before work so tomorrow I will only do a max of 3. So hopefully pretty soon I'll be free of this soon. And I'm looking into AA groups in my area to cover my bases. Thank you all for the advice and kind messages.

slvarltx reacted to Bufflehead in Genepro - too good to be true?
The creators of GENEPRO live in an alternate physical universe from the one I live in . . . in my universe, a gram is a standard physical measurement of weight, and you can't get 30 grams of Protein from 20 or so grams of mysterious powder. Genepro must come from somewhere with some sort of alternate quantum physics? But I live in my universe, so Genepro isn't going to make sense for me here.

slvarltx reacted to Sophie74656 in Stomach Stretching
If your surgery was done correctly then the part of your stomach that stretches is removed so it can't stretch. Some people might think theirs has stretched because they discover that they eat more than they used to. This is usually because it takes a while for the internal swelling to go down. For a few months post op you are swollen inside so you have extra restriction. Then it goes doen and you can eat a little more. But it didn't stretch, that's just the size it should be

slvarltx got a reaction from DavidOso in Robotic Surgery?
@suga 3 months after I got my sleeve, the ads didn't bother me anymore. I readjusted my entire diet and I think I have had fried food maybe 3 times in 13 months (unbreaded chicken wings) and haven't had any soda, diet or regular, since either and I used to drink a 2 liter per day.
For the most part, the intense cravings for junk are gone. Hunger isn't, just the weird cravings.

slvarltx got a reaction from Dub in NSV from Colonoscopy
So I turned 50 and followed my doctors advice to go get a screening colonoscopy. They did a phone interview and couldn't believe I didn't take any prescription medication (after getting rid of high blood pressure, Water retention pills, etc.). Got to the procedure room and my BP was 115/60 with a resting heart rate of 56 bpm.
Gastro doctor comes in and goes over the procedure and then tells me "you are in the best condition of a 50 year old I have seen all year!"
If he had only seen me 1 year ago! He would have never said that as I was 130 lbs overweight and couldn't keep my blood pressure under control even with meds.
Gotta love the sleeve!

Biggest thing I have seen in my research is that if you have problems with acid reflux, go with bypass, otherwise sleeve.

slvarltx got a reaction from Andrea72 in Miserable
I just hit my 1 year anniversary. The first couple of months are tough as your body heals, adjusts, etc. The good news is that the weight came off very easily and I actually had to start eating over 2000 calories again just to quit losing weight and gain a little back. Hang in there!

Actually, i can say after a year, my restriction has gotten tighter or that my brain has readjusted...or a combination of the two....6 months ago i think i could eat more and wanted to do so...today, my appetite and my capacity have seemed to wane...not claiming this is typical....only my experience on this journey

slvarltx got a reaction from Healthy_life2 in A year out from surgery, what is your daily diet consist of?
I eat out a lot as i travel a lot for work. I use pretty much steadfast rules: no fried foods other naked chicken wings, no soda at all (dont want it). Otherwise i make sure its Protein, vegetables, and some fruit. I avoid bread and Pasta as well. After hitting goal weight, i had to up my calories to over 2000, otherwise i start losing weight again. I generally track this. My life is pretty much back to normal, except that i just eat smaller portions....they dont seem smaller to me though...perception has shifted
