  1. I've been having difficulty eating for about a month. I went for an Upper GI & was told my esophagus was dilated. I went on liquids for a week & then tried food again. I was ok for a couple of days, but then started vomiting again. I called my dr again, they sent me for another Upper GI, which I had done yesterday. I'm back on liquids b/c I can't keep solids down. I found out yesterday my band slipped. I won't see the dr until next week. I've been reading a lot. I thought I was going to have to have the band taken out, but from what I've read they may be able to reposition it or "unbuckle" it. Not sure what to do, I guess I'll know more after I see the dr. Part of me wants this thing out, I've had lots of problems with eating, I've had the band for almost 6 years. I'm just so afraid of gaining all the weight back. You'd think after going through all of this, that wouldn't happen, but it scares me. I also don't know what to expect if the band comes out. The dr did say if I get to the point where I can't get liquids down, I have to go to the ER. I just want this over with.

  4. Wow, I haven't been on here all week & had a lot to read through! Congratulations to all the new bandsters. I am 8 days out & doing well. My only complaint is lack of energy. Since I start on mushies today, hopefully that will help. I had to go to a post-op class at the dr's office on Thurs & met the other 7 people who were done the week I was. It was great hearing everyone's stories. Our mushies can be pudding, yogurt, soft scrambled eggs (not sure how to do that), cream soups, pastina, farina, applesauce & watermelon. I can't wait to eat something! I'm so excited. I do a week of mushies, then move on to soft. My bandages were removed & I go back on Oct. 7 for my first fill. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. What amazes me is I haven't felt hungry. I had some sugar free jello twice, but the sugar free ice pops were the real treat. I couldn't stand the broth after the third day, so I would get wonton soup & ask for just the broth. That was heaven. I tried every weight loss thing out there & feel so good about this. I know this was the answer for me. Is anyone from NJ - Bergen County?
  5. My surgery was 9/10 & I feel great today, no pain, no discomfort. I see the dr on Thurs & I'm hoping to be put on mushy foods. The clear liquids are getting tiresome. Yesterday I had some wonton soup, just the broth & it was sooo good. And I had a sugar free ice pop for the first time. I can't say that I'm feeling hunger, it's more that I just want to eat something. But I'm down 7 lbs since Sat & I'm so happy. So hang in there everyone.
  6. I'm having the same issues. I also haven't walked as much today, maybe that's part of the problem. But I feel the same tightness under my breastbone. I slept good last night, but took a nap this afternoon. I drank some isopure, hoping maybe a little protein will give me a little energy. But then I remind myself I'm only 2 days post op, I can't expect to feel 100%.
  7. I was banded at 7:30 am yesterday & left the hospital at 2 pm. My only complaint right now is back pain & if I touch where my incisions are or cough, that hurts. I didn't sleep much last night which was surprising since I was up at 4:30 am as we had to be at the hospital by 5:30. I had trouble getting comfortable. I had a little pain, but not much. I didn't fill my percoset prescription & have just been taking extra strenght tylenol. I made sure I walked around the house for 5-10 mins every hour yesterday, maybe that helped. Today is beautiful out & I plan on taking some short walks outside. I am on clear liquids for a week. I'm diabetic so was worried about not having enough sugar. I was told I could mix 1 oz water with 1 oz gatorade or juice, which I'm doing. But I was still worried, so I called my dr's office today & left a msg with their service. I got a call back within 5 mins - so whoever it was who had questions for their dr, call - there's always someone covering. One of the nurses yesterday came to talk to me yesterday, she was banded 8 yrs ago & has lost 100 lbs. I was glad she talked to me. I have to admit that I was getting down on myself yesterday that I had to get to this point, that why couldn't I just lose the weight on my own??? But I couldn't & thank God this was an option! After I started on this journey, my sister decided to do it also. She will be banded on Oct 1, so we will be going through it together. Best of luck to everyone. And thank God for this site. I read it long before I started on the journey & have found it to be so helpful.
  8. My surgery is tomorrow, 9/10. I was originally scheduled for 2 pm, which I wasn't thrilled with. My dr's office called today to say I am now scheduled for 7:30 am & have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am. I've been kind of freaking out. This is real. This is happening. It really helps reading other people's experiences. I just want it to be this time tomorrow night and have it behind me. But I know this is a new beginning for me & as nervous/anxious I am about it, I know it's the right thing for me. Good luck everyone!

    Here Come the Emotions...

Wow, did this hit home! My surgery is tomorrow. I was actually thinking earlier that maybe I should cancel it. I was thinking about all the foods I'll be giving up & maybe staying the way I am isn't so bad. But then the other voice said but I won't stay the way I am, I get bigger every year. And I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 months ago. Even more than buying the smaller clothes & looking better, I will be healthier & that's worth much more than I'm giving up. Hang in there, if I can do it, you can too!
  10. Best of luck to everyone having their surgery tomorrow! My day is Friday and I can't believe it's almost here! So excited, but a little nervous. It helps to read about everyone's experiences here.
  11. I can't believe my surgery is almost here! My date is 9/10. My dr doesn't do a pre-op diet, but I'm going to eat very light this week. I am excited, but also nervous. I want to be sure I'll have everything I need. I have my chewable vitamins, gas-x strips, sugar free jello, sugar free pops, chicken broth & of course plenty of water for the clear fluids stage. I was going to buy some isopure rtd bottles also. Is there anything else people had? This is same day surgery for me, but I'm not scheduled until 2 pm. How long after the procedure did you have to stay?
  12. I'm so excited, my surgeon's office just called me and my insurance company approved me. So my date is Sept. 10. I've been waiting for this for so long. But now I feel like I have a million things to do to prepare. Help!!!
  13. My paperwork is being submitted this week, but my doctor has given me a surgery date of Sept. 10. I would very much like bandster buddies! I was recently diagnosed with diabetes which makes this surgery even more necessary! As much as I want it over with, I am getting very anxious as the date gets closer.
  14. Thanks for your sharing your story. I'm really torn about doing this and reading the positives really helps. I want to do it, I'm just scared.

    Doctors in Northern NJ

Hi Jane, I haven't had the procedure yet, but I am looking into it. I'm in Bergen County also. Did you like the dr you had? Any advice would be appreciated.
