i dont know about anyone else but i have been big all my life, tried every fad diet going and nothing ever seemed to work, a few pounds would come off here and there, then would all go back on plus more. i started my journey for a gastric sleeve never thinking i would even be accepted, it never really sunk in until the day of surgery, i also used to think there is no way this surgeon can change the amount i eat as my appetite was horrendous, its only hit me these last few days when i realised my clothes are hanging off me and look silly!! well anyway had a weigh in today and have lost 91lbs since surgery which will be 4 months ago on july 31st, never in all my days thought i would everr loose so much weight, boost my confidence and live a healthier happoer life, if anyones in doubt about surgery my moto is go for it and dont look back, best decision ive ever made, only regret is not having it done yrs ago! xx

I am 40, and I was sleeved June 3, 2015. I'm only 5'3" and started out at 366 pounds. After a few stalls, today I reached 60 pounds off total. I feel so much better. My insomnia and Migraines I have had most my life are gone. I wanted to be healthier for my kids and myself. I have found the strength to leave my cheating alcoholic husband, and I'm ready to live my next 40 years to the fullest!

Open enrollment is coming up soon. Maybe your husband can get a plan just for himself and you find a plan on the healthcare exchange that covers WLS.

Tell them you are having a Lipoma removed, not really a lie since a Lipoma is a fatty mass. I actually had one removed from my stomach 3 months before my sleeve so I just didn't change the story....it works fine.

Hi, I wanted to introduce myself. I 36 and married with 3 boys. My blood pressure has beengoing up for the past few years along with my weight. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer recently and that has made me want to make a major change. My husbands been the same weight 185lbs 6ft tall for all of our 13 years together. His family has a history of living healthy and independant into their 90s. My mom is 58 and 200lbs overweight and she has lost both of her sisters in the past 7 yrs to health problems.
So here I am, I have a bmi of 47 and need to loose about 130-150 lbs. I feel like the sleeve might give me a chance to deal with my health and hopefully grow old with my husband.

I don't understand....at my last office visit with the surgeon they said they couldn't out in for my surgery until after I got the CPAP machine and met with the sleep doc. I was so disappointed. I don't see the sleep doc until 8/6.
TODAY IN THE MAIL WAS MY SURGERY APPROVAL LETTER FROM TUFTS! It actually came yesterday but I didn't open it because I thought it was the authorization for the CPAP machine. I had to read the letter three times just to make sure I was reading it correctly.
I can't believe it. Just when I was resigned to having to wait i get this surprise. I'm so happy I could cry. Now if the surgeons schedule allows I can have my surgery in August, probably toward the end of the month ????

Or am I just on Day 4 of the pre op diet.
People were avoiding me today at work, I could see them recoil. I asked my closest work buddies, who I see out of work and they said my breath was okay. I'm sure I took off a couple of eyebrows and some facial hair from them. Gee wizz.. On the plus side I am being left alone to crack on with work lol

June 8th here as well! I am still on liquids but doing great.
When you think about it, a pound of body fat is equivalent to approx 3500 calories which is way more than we are able to burn in a day. Stands to reason that we are losing a fair amount of excess Fluid at first along with the fat. Sooner or later, we just won't have enough excess fluid to keep the scale moving at such a pace. We are in it for the long haul. This is the exciting phase, kind of like the dating phase in a long marriage. When we get to goal, maintaining it will be the real challenge! Just like staying married!

Hi Jerry nothing you can do pre op to lessen the gas because they pump you full of air during the surgery. Just walk as much as you possibly can it really works to keep things moving sounds too simple but that's the trick

Personally I think that's too much Protein for one meal. I've read that the body can't absorb that much at a time. 25 to 30 grams seems more normal. I also prefer lower overall carbs. I typically use Premier Protein shakes which have 30 grams of protein and 5 grams of carbs.

I'm in my pureed stage now. Hopefully your NUT can give you some recommendations like mine did! She helped me out a lot.
I'm allowed scrambled eggs on my pureed phase (even though they're not pureed). So I do those sometimes, usually one egg + one egg white.
I do a pureed "meal" of refried Beans, salsa, and cilantro pureed with a topping like guacamole or ff sour cream.
I love doing pureed cauliflower with cheese - it's delicious!
And for Protein, I recently started trying pureed chicken salad (which my NUT recommended) and it's not as bad as it sounds!
I also love doing frozen banana pureed with PB2 powder (and a splash of skim milk if it needs it) - it's quick and can be used for any meal.
Tofu is also on my list of things I'm allowed to have so I did that one night too.
I also made a pureed eggplant parm casserole one night -- an eggplant puree topped with a ricotta cheese puree, Tomato sauce, and a tiny bit of breadcrumbs on top! It was really good.

I haven't done my Pre-op diet yet.. but I have been doing a lot of Protein shakes (basically because its easer to grab a Protein shake than it is to try to cook breakfast/lunch lol)
but I've done juice fast in the past. the very first time I did it, I felt horrible the first 7-10 day headaches, tired, irritable. The thing that seems to help me is drinking more Water. I know a lot of times people will follow the Water guidelines and I was too but I just found that whenever I feel any type of hunger or headache I just drink more water, whether I'm going over the recommended ounces or not. that was a big help and seem to solve my headache problem.
I think that first juice fast did something to my body because I haven't had those issues since and I've done several juice fast and I've been loosely doing the Protein Shake liquid diet for a few weeks now.

June 26th sleeve, can't help but wonder if I shouldn't give it one more try without the surgery, thinking hell if I can do a 2 week liquid diet I can do anything. Then I fall out of denial and return to earth. I need this, want this, and gonna do it and do it well. cheers to all. Jer

Parts of me does regret it SLIGHTLY.. i obviously couldnt diet on my own because if i could of i would have. But its dishearting to me that i will always have to watch my carbs for the duration of time that i would like to lose weight. Sort of like a modified Atkins style diet. i will always have to be careful with carbs even with 85% stomach gone. It makes me sad because I didnt think i would have to do the whole always on a diet thing again. I had to change my mind set to " i can eat what i want BUT i have to finish my Protein first, which usually leaves no room for anything else". That is how i get by. Again i am only 6 weeks post op, but Im feeling great and know i couldnt diet alone for the length of time i need to get enough weight off. Final decision is: I am happy I did it
    Good Luck!

I've used Isopure (powder) everyday since the day out of surgery. It has helped me lose 130 pounds and I love it. I've heard others gripe about the taste, but it tastes better to me than the many others I tried. Not many other Protein drinks can give you 50 grams of Protein in 12 ounces. Because of this, I've never had a day when I didn't get in at least 80-100 grams of protein. The extra Vitamins and minerals give me energy and make me feel healthy.

Jerry Currie reacted to glitter eyes in Should I Start Juicing or Have Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
I am a big fan of raw juicing. That being said, I have never lost ANY weight doing raw juicing. I am ten months post op having the gastric sleeve and it had changed my life. I am down 119 pounds and only 12 from my goal weight.
Also, I quit raw juicing while I was trying to lose the biggest portion of my weight because I did not want the extra calories and carbs. I just started implementing raw juice back into my diet. I log all my food so I am careful to juice foods low in carbs and count my juice intake into my daily allowances.
I know a lot of people are against the raw juicing because of the Fiber lost because you do not get all the pulp. I save all my pulp and add it to Soups, smoothies, muffins, Protein pancakes, etc.
It is good that you are researching your options so you can do what is best for yourself. Also, if you want to try and lose the weight on your own that is also an option. All I can do is speak from my own experience and say that I wish I had done my gastric sleeve sooner. It has been an amazing adventure and I love how great I feel. Good luck in your decision. There is a lot of helpful information on this forum.
