    Weight Loss

I was sleeved almost a year ago, and I've lost 2 - 2.5 lbs/per week, never more, not even at the beginning. And that's after coming home from the hospital weighting more that pre-op, do to IV fluids. It was a bit frustrating at times, but there WAS slow steady progress, and I just decided to change my expectations - to hoping for 7 lbs/month instead of 12-15/month and that way I went from not meeting my goal, to exceeding it every month. And now I'm almost at goal, and continuing to lose 2/week, so it hasn't slowed down yet. If we continue to work our program, our program will work

    Re: Snacks

I am 10 months out and almost at goal (over 100 lbs). I don't eat bread, Cookies or Pasta by choice because in the past, eating them took me to a place where I couldn't control my eating, so for now, I still don't go there. But as I see the weight come off, I'm very content with not eating those foods, I don't feel deprived. Diet soda, I drink that, probably more than I should, I know it's not a good choice, but I really feel that having that taste (the lemon-lime of diet Mt. Dew) satisfies some kind of taste craving that Water does not satisfy for me, and it's less calories than any food item. I still drink plenty of water, and some sparking no-calorie lemonade drinks, but I do have some soda at this point. I do feel like it's time to expand my food choices a bit, so that I don't get bored with what I eat, but I've lost a lot of weight in the past (without the sleeve) and gained most of it back, so I'm VERY cautious about adding expanded foods back into my diet. The very best to you in your journey

    154 lbs; thanks!
  7. I only told two people about my WLS - my 2 adult sons. The people that I worked with didn't ask about the kind of surgery I was having and I didn't tell them. I happened to move mid-way throuh my weight loss journey, so no one saw me go from 250 lbs to 150 lbs, but as I've gotten thinner, people have complimented me, and asked how I've lost the weight (perfectly normal), and it's then that I feel bad/guilty, because in reality, I'm not telling the whole story, I'm not giving the WLS it's due credit and I'm misrepresenting how I have been able to ultimately be successful. I never felt bad not explaining what type of surgery I was having - before the surgery, but now, I really hate the feeling that I'm out-and-out lying about how I've been able to be drop this much weight. (But having said that, I still want to keep that decision private).

  9. I liked your description of mourning your old eating habits. As great as I feel now - getting close to goal, sometimes those forbidden foods just call my name, and I really miss the enjoyment they gave me. I miss dry, crunchy foods like pretzels and chips. I haven't had bread or pizza or Cookies for almost a year and don't actually miss then, but I sometimes miss that feeling I would get after eating way too much of those foods that I shouldn't have been eating at all, but they sure did comfort me. The good feeling that I get from exercise helps fill the void.

    Almost there!

That's great ~ very exciting! And really, the end of October is just around the corner
  12. That really interesting, because I'm 9 months out, and have been experiencing this for a few week, just sometimes, when I get up too quick. I've never come too close to passing out, but definitely experience a mild case of orthostatic hypotension. I also drink and eat plenty, no problem there.

    Surgery date of September 1st!

Congratulations on getting your date for surgery! Your nutritionist and surgeon will advise you on the post-op diet they want you to follow; I had protein shakes, broth, refried beans to name a few.
  17. I am approaching my goal and the closer I get the more concerned I become about my ability to maintain. I've had success over the years in losing weight, but not maintaining the weight loss. And what concerns me most is that when I start to put on weight, I stop weighing myself because I don't want to see the numbers and, I don't know, I just really lose all control, and I just don't want that to happen again.

    Calling all nurses!

I'm an RN working inpatient care and was sleeved in Nov. 2014. I didn't tell anyone; I still feel a sense of embarrassment that (in my mind) I was so heavy and had failed so many times trying to correct it, that I needed the surgery. I know that some of my thinking on this is skewed, but that's just how I felt, so I just told my manager and colleagues that I was having elective surgery - they probably knew what it was, but I never actually discussed it with anyone. I transferred from one hospital to another 3 months after the surgery, so neither group has seen me lose the whole 90 lbs that I've now lost. I'm so happy that I've had the surgery, really, and even though I NEVER had weight just drop off, I have plugged away with slow steady weight loss and it just feels so good (even tho I'm not at goal yet). As I approach goal, I become more and more scared about maintenance, because for pretty-much my entire adult life I have periodically succeeded at weight loss but never maintenance. Coming here really helps, and I hope that having a presence on this forum will assist me in maintaining this weight loss. Best of luck to you!

    Constipation?!?!?

Before surgery, my system had worked great on a high carbohydrate, high fat diet , now, 8 months out, I'm still trying to find a balance; I have needed to incorporate more "help" then I like (Benefiber, Colace, sometimes Senocot, sometimes Miralax). I just really want to avoid the straining and the feeling of being ... bloated.

  25. Being able to not worry that I'll be the heaviest person in the room, where ever I go. Not having the feeling that I want to avoid seeing people, because they'll know how heavy I've gotten. Enjoy the flexibilty of my body in yoga-type activities, Being the one in control instead of food controlling me, Not having the fear that I won't be able to buckle the airplane seatbelt, Dressing in more attractive clothes and colors instead of choosing colors and styles that don't draw attention to myself, Being at peace with myself
