I concur with the Squatty potty. I have one and it is a real help. Also adding Fiber in has helped too.

@@agalindo17 - you can also buy a stool or "rest" that fits along side your toilet on-line, especially if you are a bit heavier, and don't want to test out a stool that may or may not support your weight.

agalindo17 reacted to BLERDgirl in INSURANCE PAY FOR YOUR PROTEIN SHAKES
That's the deal. They are actually billing insurance for the cream at an inflated price that covers the cost of the Protein shakes. Many doctor's office refuse to deal with them at all. If you shop around you can get deals on your own. Plus you get the option to taste test and find Protein Shakes you like. I like Isopure. Many people don't. I find the best deal for me was getting a GNC membership and buying from them. They often have sales and specials. I also occasionally use CVS brand vanilla whey instead of coffee Creamer. It runs about $20 for a 2lb tub but I always have coupons from my CVS care card and usually end up paying around $13 - $15. Premier Protien is another popular brand and they are sold at Costco's and other discount stores.

You are 100% welcome to come to the blossom support group, who told you can't was giving you bad info.
We have people from other doctors all the time. let me know when you want to go and I will meet and take you as my guest for the first time. so you will be comfortable to go any time you want.
Support Groups are very important for your success. I attribute my success more to the support group than the surgery

I still have one premier Protein shake a day - I don't hit my Protein target of 80+ without it. When a person is struggling with alot of hunger, they should look at the "makeup" of the diet but I don't agree that it is universal to ban Protein drinks once you are on solid foods, different surgeons have different recommendations.
What I think is very detrimental (for me anyway) are the Protein Bars. They tend to be pretty high carb and calorie for the amount of protein and frankly are alot like candy...so they can trigger that snacky carby craving feeling in me.
Anyway, hope you are able to get to the bottom of this!

I also do a Protein shake daily for Breakfast. It is a convenience factor for me and I drink them on the way to work. My team if supportive of that. Of course the preference is that you get the bulk of your Protein from food but the Protein Shake is fine long term.
There are those in my support group that still do them years out.

I differ with the poster above who said it's not appropriate to use Protein shakes after 6 months post-op. I've not had that advice from my surgeon or anyone on my bariatric team. I drink a Protein shake 3-4 times a week for Breakfast.
I've also used shakes when traveling on business during plane trips, etc.
Protein Shakes are food, too. As long as they don't make up the bulk of your diet long-term, they are a viable option to include in your weekly menus.

If you're six months out, the only reason you should be continuing to have Protein Shakes, or any liquid whatsoever other than your required Water, is if you are unable to get the required Protein from solid food. Are you having such issues? The above posters are absolutely correct about the effect of solid food on receptors, and you should aim for dense protein at regular intervals throughout the day. Over time, the sleeve stretches to accommodate a little more food bit by bit, and it may be that you need a little more to feel completely satiated. To avoid weight regain in this instance, be sure to choose high quality Proteins, and maybe throw in some raw vegetables to fill up the rest of the room, provided you can meet your protein quota. Definitely avoid trying to close the satiety gap with starchy foods, but be sure there is some healthy fat in your diet as well...that provides fullness most effectively, although you don't want to overdo higher calorie stuff for any reason.

I am almost 4 years out and don't experience this. I sound like a broken record, but have you tried proselec or other good ppi? Acidy tummy can feel like a weird hunger type sensation.
Other than that, do you follow the rules of dense Protein first each meal? The dense Protein buts pressure on receptors located at "bottom" of stomach that give that feeling of"satiated".
If you don't discover the reason(ie behavior) I think you should discuss with surgeon and/or nutritionist because I don't think this is typical.

The hormonal changes that you are having since surgery and the stress of the surgery on your body could trigger the period. I haven't had my surgery yet (come on Oct 22nd!), but I have a period about every two or three months. Having a lighter period on Mirena is normal. Some lucky few don't have one at all.
