So my surgeon sent me my "before" pictures yesterday, which of course made me want to take an "after" pic to compare. My surgeon does the "official" after pictures at the 3 month appointment when the scar is more healed. So I snapped a couple of pics today. It amazes me. There's only a difference of about 5 pounds in my weight since before and after surgery, but it seriously looks like a huge difference. I couldn't be more pleased with the results so far.

I have scar sheets on the scar, so we will see how that ends up, but so far so good.

    Pros:
    I am no longer fat.
I have more energy than I have in decades.
I can do mud runs, zip lines, zumba, ride horses (scared of them, but I could), ride amusement park rides, etc.
    I can shop anywhere.
I am no longer the fattest person in the room.
I can grocery shop without feeling self conscious.
I can fit in theater seats, airplane seats, down aisles without feeling squished or squishing others.
I can eat whatever I want, I rarely WANT junk and when I do, I eat very little.
I am a cheap date. (See above.)
food no longer rules my life.
I could truly go on forever...

My dr cathed me but I begged for it to be taken out as soon as I woke up and they did. They want you to walk as much as possible after surgery anyway.

@@LSF thanks so much for asking your surgeon!! They did check her sleeve and everything looked "normal" to them and the other bariatric surgeons he consulted.
Honestly, I'm thinking more and more that this was the kidney stone all along. Or a combination of both going on at the same time. Or it's been an incredible coincidence that once they finally resolved the stone, the nausea started going away.
Now, it's pretty much completely gone. The last 3 days she's been able to eat and drink pretty well. She's still not able to get full Protein and liquids but it's a far cry from the constant nausea and vomiting she had been experiencing. She even went to the park yesterday with her friends yesterday and didn't need her constant accessory, the blue barf bag! Yay for miracles!

Good news, we are home! She's still a little nauseated but able to eat a little bit. She's not eating or drinking much so they have set up home health to continue IV nutrition for a bit. We are super glad to be home!

    @@ShellMilliner Thank you!
She's doing really well so far today. The nausea has diminished a great deal! She has even taken a few bites of food today and is drinking without nausea and vomiting! YAY! She's still on IV TPN but they are talking about discharging her tomorrow (she will still have IV at home until she can fully sustain food and drink.) I'm hopeful for the first time in a long, longggg time!

6 weeks Post Op today. She had the 2nd surgery on the kidney stone today and they successfully got it! It had traveled back up towards the kidney so that thing was not going to come out on its own, that's for sure.
It remains to be seen how/if this will affect the nausea and vomiting. I'm praying it was the cause of it all and she'll be nausea and vomit free after today! Thanks all for the thoughts and prayers.

I wasn't given a calorie goal, only Protein goal and a list of approved foods. But I'm only 2 weeks post op. I've been getting less than 500 calories. I know some people who are 2 years past surgery and they eat around 1000 calories a day. I think if you try to hit your protein goal and choose lean/low fat foods, you probably don't need to worry about calories.

I have been trying but, no, I haven't been getting in all the fluids they say I should get. I'll keep working on it. My dr said to call back if no BM in 2 more days and they will call in an rx for something.

I was sleeved on 1/20/15. To date I have lost some 48 lbs in the 11 weeks since my operation. I hope this will inspire some of you that this operation is not something that will handicap you but will actually free you to a much more enjoyable side of life.
One of the things my wife and I enjoy is cruising. Pre sleeve it was all about the food and the beer. Life has changed now as my 2XL body is just now adjusting to a “lumpy” but comfortable “L” size. My eating habits have become healthier and less the big part of my day. The thing is…. I couldn’t in all fairness to my wife stop vacationing (my wife is not overweight). Veterans of 23 prior cruises over the past 16 years, I had to see if it was possible, and as soon as possible. We booked a cruise on NCL Sun out of Tampa to coincide with my transition into stage 5 (solid foods). I learned a lot this week. And I like what I learned. BTW it was the best cruise ever. No alcohol, small portions…. I had my doubts. But I stuck to the plan. It was easy and doable. Here is what I learned, how I coped, what I did, how I ate and how I did weight wise.
    1. I decided on day one that everything I ate would be quality….no bread or Pasta. I ate steak, shrimp, chicken or pork for lunch or dinner, no sandwiches , no sweets… I want to emphasize that there are and to my surprise always were good options on every buffet…..especially for sleevers!
    2. Breakfast everyday was eggs, cottage cheese (yes the had it) and if I had room a little yogurt. After which we sent for coffee from room service to enjoy later on the balcony.
    3. My day started on deck six everyday with my wife ….which has an open air walking track (on most boats ) for 8 to 10,000 steps….about an hour of leisurely walking. By day 3 I was actually jogging small stretches of the track.
    4. Dinner every night was a small bite of an appetizer or a few bites of salad and about half the portion of meat. No dessert, instead I would treat myself to a single espresso after my wife finished her dessert
    5. I drank ice Water, skim milk and occasionally made myself an ice coffee in my waterbottle everyday.
    6. I drank no….yes zero alcohol!!! It did not bother me a bit. My wife did drink and I got all the exercise going to the bar for her….lol
    7. At night we took in as much of the activities and shows as possible.
    8. Late night occasionally we would get a small bite at the late night buffet. Most nights.
    9. I challenged myself to do a shore tour ( I never liked doing things because of my weight ) We did cave tubing in Belize and snorkeling in Roatan Honduras. Which is “not” like me.
    10. I think the toughest thing on the cruise is the looks the waiters give you when you don’t finish your meal….I got a lot of…. “you no like? I bring you something else?” I gave a simple “I’m fine…it was delicious!” which works everytime.
    11. I think my smartest idea was though to bring a nice water bottle… it was very handy.
    12. I bought a new T-shirt in every port in my new size “L” That was a great feeling.
So what was the end result? I was never hungry, slept great, ate some tasty things, met a goal of at least 10k steps every day and still lost 3.2 lbs. It was the first cruise that I actually fit in the clothes that I came on the boat in. I hope this blog encourages you to get out there……but you have to follow the plan and be strong enough to stick to it. It wasn’t hard at all.

I also was sleeved on 3/31. Spent 1 night in the hospital. I have been having a lot of shoulder and back pain. I'm thinking it's probably the trapped gas. I'm struggling to get my Water and Protein in. I feel like I don't really know what my stomach is telling me - am I hungry, full, nauseous? It's a weird sensation for sure! my stomach makes weird noises every time I take a drink and sometimes it hurts very briefly but that goes away.
