    Pre-Op Weight Loss

@@startingnew I have been watching My 600 lb Life all the time lately to learn more about the surgery and see how it changes people's lives. My current weight is 396 lb. The doctor said if I gained anymore weight they would have to postpone surgery until I lost some. I live in Missouri. :-)

    Pre-Op Weight Loss

Hi everyone! I am just beginning my journey. I had my first appointment yesterday! A month ago I started trying to lose some weight on my own because I know that the heavier you are the riskier the surgery is. I currently have a BMI of 60 and the doctor told me I am on the borderline of being too heavy for surgery. This sucks! I definitely don't want to have any delays in this process. I'm so ready for a fresh start and a new, healthier life! One problem I have been having is Water retention. Oh my goodness. Why, why, why must we retain water?!?! As of yesterday I am 4 pounds heavier than I was a month ago when I first started trying to lose weight! I have been using Weight Watchers, have cut back on my salt intake. What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have any s uggestions on how to conquer this water retention issue? It is so discouraging to work so hard on changing my eating habits and nothing shows for it. Any suggestions and words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

  4. You look incredible! I'm so excited to get my surgery done and begin my journey! I hope I have the same level of success you have had! I'm sure it has not been easy! How has the journey been for you? Any complications or regrets? I would love to hear your story! :-) BTW, I'm a fellow Missourian. I hope you don't mind that I added you as a friend!

Anyone else have a diva sleeve?

I live in Missouri too! Where did you have your surgery and who was your surgeon?

Totally frustrated and don't know what to do

Oh girl. My heart just broke for you. I know exactly what you're going through! My ex husband treated me the exact same way. And I kicked his sorry butt to the curb because I knew that my son & I deserved so much better, and my son didn't need to witness his father belittling me. Sweetie, you have to do what is right for YOU! If your husband isn't going to be supportive then that is his problem. This is YOUR life. You need to do what is best for YOU! If your method of conquering the problem doesn't meet up to your husbands ideas and expectations, so be it. He needs to understand that he cannot control you like he is. It sounds like money to pay for the surgery isn't a problem, so go for it! Do it for yourself and your children. If he is any kind of man who truly loves you, he will come around and support you in YOUR decision for YOUR life. You can do this!
  7. Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer. I am just starting my weight loss journey, I have an appointment with a Gastric Bypass surgeon on April 8! I am really looking forward to this, I have been waiting for years, and I now FINALLY have an insurance that covers weight loss surgery! Yay! I am currently torn between the gastric bypass surgery and the Lap Band. I am hoping to hear about your experiences with the Lap Band. I have read that weight loss is much slower with the lap band. Does this help with preventing excess skin? I look forward to hearing about your thoughts on this surgery and would love to hear about your successes!
  8. Oh goodness, I don't know what you are experiencing... yet. But I know I will once I lose my weight. I am just starting my journey and have my first appointment with the surgeon in April. I am a very big girl with over 200 lb to lose. I know I will look like a deflated balloon when I'm done and I am already saving up the money for surgery to remove the extra skin. However, I know it will be worth it. I would rather look like a wrinkled prune then continue to carry around this extra weight. If I have to, I will duct tape my extra skin to me and enjoy my new life! I looked at the pictures that you posted on your profile, and you are beautiful. Don't let that negative voice in your head get to you! You have come a long ways and conquered a very hard thing! :-) When you look at your saggy skin, just think of where you were a few months ago, and how much better you feel. I know, easier said than done! Congratulations on your weightloss success!
  9. @@Crosby, I know, I found this to be very odd too. But I have checked with my surgeon's office and I have called my insurance company at least 3 times to double-triple check, and spoke with a different customer service rep each time. Even my physician told me this when I went to him to obtain a referral to begin this process.
  10. Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer, and I am just getting started on my weight loss journey. I have a looooong road ahead of me, and I know it won't be easy. I have struggled with my weight my whole life, and I am so tired of it! I am the heaviest that I have ever been. My first Bariatric doctor's appointment is 4/8, and it cannot come quick enough! I'm so ready to get this going! I have a question... one of my insurance requirements is that I take part in a medically monitored weight loss program prior to surgery. I contacted my insurance and found out that Weight Watchers is ok to use to fulfill this requirement. I'm not sure whether I should sign up for the Online Plus program or for meetings. The meetings do not sound appealing to me at all, I have attended them before, several years ago and there was always someone whining about this or that. I don't do well with whining!!! However, I think a group support would be great, as long as there were not any whiners! The online plus sounds very convenient and is a lot cheaper! Has anyone used Weight Watchers to fulfill the 6 month medically monitored weight loss requirement? Did you do it online or with meetings? What was your experience like? Also, does anyone know why this is a requirement? I think it seems kinda silly, but of course I am just super anxious to get the ball rolling and don't want to wait 6 months!!! I have tried so many diets and weight loss programs, I'm so scared of failing again. I would love to hear stories about your weight loss journey both before and after surgery! :-) Thank you! Jennifer
