Beachlovinloser got a reaction from Alex Brecher in Looking for complication/medical tourism Insurance for Mexico Sleeve Procedure
Hi David, I need to go back and find them again. I think at least one of them emailed me the quote. You need to go through the whole process of filling out all the information about when, where and who is doing the procedure. Then the price is based on the level of insurance you want. If I can pick up where I left off when I was first researching, I will be happy to give you the company names

Helloooooo to aaaaaall, i seen activity hoppin in this thread and it seems like just yesterday i was in here gathering info and anticipating the day! April 25th will mark my one year sleeversary i will say to the newcomers...it's been the BEST decision of my life! dont compare ur journey to anyone elses. i expect to be another 10lbs down by April 25th to bring me to 190! I'm not rushing to get to 175 and the KEY is to eat right. i've had so many stalls n scales goin up n down becuz i was still in fat girl mentality. i still enjoy buffalo wings i just dnt eat 10 but 3 or 4 lol. pizza and marinara pretty much makes my stomach funny so i dnt eat that (alot) NO WHITE BREADS AT ALL or carbs for that matter. listen to ur body. once you get in the habit of eating better you'll realize that fried chicken wasn't so good after all. do i eat plants all day...of course not cuz im human lol. i can still eat whatever i want i'm just more mindful of it. I have a trainer in which i work out 2-3 times a week that's helped alot and it's truly a lifesyle change. im learning everyday to get better.
congrats and good luck april sleevers!!! you'll look back in a year wondering dmn why didn't i do this sooner.

Beachlovinloser reacted to sarahbeth3569 in Migraines...how did your sleeve affect your migraines?
I was worried as well about the meds. Most of my meds I could have gotten in liquid form post-op. . I didnt have a rebound Migraine from the pain meds until about 3rd day postop but I was also dehydrated. Also, I havent had to use it yet but they make a Zomig nasal spray to replace a migraine pill. I take Imitrex but Zomig will do the job as well. Definitely keeping well hydrated will prevent alot. Im 15 days post-op and Ive taken my small thyroid pill and my bp meds from day one. I was scared to, but theyve never given me a problem. If its small you can take it. And Id research or ask dr about the ones you could crush...not time release or XR. Hope this helps.

Beachlovinloser reacted to BLERDgirl in Does anyone else worry about all the artificial sweeteners?
First of all I talked to my nutritionist. I wanted to make sure she was aware that I was vegetarian and allergic to artificial sweeteners and stevia. I think did my homework. I spent 2 weeks reading and searching for Protein powders. I didn't eat jello or popsicles. The first 2 weeks I was on full liquids. I did a lot of FAGE 0% greek yogurt. I would mix it in the nutra bullet with Protein powder. I finally settled on Isopure unflavored. It's 100% whey isolate. No coloring's or sugars added. I also added cacao powder or ½ tbsp almond butter to my shakes. I also used vegetable broth. I pureed black Beans, strained the skins and thinned it out with veg broth. I drank organic Kefir. In the hospital I was given Pro-Source no carb. I mixed that with herbal tea first thing in the morning. I did use CVS whey Protein powder for a bit. It has sucrolose in it. (Generic splenda) I didn't have too much of a reaction to it, but I switched to the Isopure since that mixes with hot or cold. I drank mostly water. Some very diluted apple juice. I found that I did better with lots of ice.

I was told specifically that Dr. Hidalgo is not affiliated with Dr. Armando Joya in any way. Dr. Armando Joya is very expensive, and when I spoke to the staff with Dr. Hidalgo they assured me there was no affiliation. The website that is linked above is a private medical tourism company that represents two of the main doctors in Puerto Vallarta and it clearly states that they are not affiliated in any way with Dr. Armando Joya. Anyway, I was so pleased with my results and care given to me by Dr. Hidalgo. You cant go wrong with him, he saved my life...

My insurance requires 5 years of documented weight over a BMI of 40 in addition to 3-6 months supervised diet and other clauses if you don't have comorbidities. I have been overweight forever but I don't go to the doctor much and have usually been around a BMI of 38-39 or lower when on one of the many diets I have done. Since I don't have comorbidities I don't want to wait another 4 years for documented weight over 40 BMI or for comorbidities to develop so I am moving ahead on my own.

I was self pay and 3 weeks post op complications began. I have an individual plan thru bcbs (bought directly thru their website). It didn't cover WLS but has covered all my complications... about 3 months in the hosp, 3 ICU stays... 3 more surgeries including a sleeve to bypass (reconstruction). My plan was a temp plan that expired while I was in icu the first time... luckily a friend found a claus that said if it expires while ur in the hosp you get a 90 day ext. If you don't have insurance look into a temp plan to cover you for at least the first 3 months. I would have over a million dollars in medical bills I'd I didn't have mine!

i had my sleeve in mexico7-24-12 home and 10 days later or so severe complications (7 weeks in the hospital and still wit a j tube (feeding tube). i have kaiser - live 30 minutes north of the golden gate bridge...KAISER WAS EXCELLENT! MULTIPLE ambulance transports, surgeries, home health care - i paid zero! i am sure laws differ state to state, but if you are an emergent patient, it is illegal to deny care. good luck with your decision. even with problem, i am standing here smiling happy with my choices!!!

I would be terrified to have surgery in the US for that price. Would make me really wonder what corners they were cutting to keep the price that low. Hell, that's $3000 less than I paid in Mexico! I don't think I'd even be comfortable going to a Mexican surgeon for that price.

I did use BeLiteWeight. The only problem I had was the car I was expecting to pick me up didn't and an unexpected cab driver came to get me. That's a little disconcerting in Juarez - getting into a strange car - but I think it was a fluke and everything else was smooth. They are easy to reach if you have any problems. Oh - and like our hospitals - you sign about 1000 pages on arrival. It was kinda funny as for every 5 pages of contract - they'd give me one sentence in English as translation.:-). Eh. WTH. I can't understand legalese in English, either so I'd have been no better off really with an English contract.:-)
And take your phone charger. They have 2 really bad TV channels in English and that's it. You'll get bored. I spent a lot of time Facebooking.:-)
I was fully back at work the Friday after Monday's surgery and no one was the wiser that i'd had anything done.

In Mexico the going rate seems to be $4500-$6500 including hospital and hotel stays, but not including plane tickets. You can get great surgeons in the lower end of that range, but I opted to go with the top end of the range in order to be 100% confident in my choice and I don't regret it.
