foreversleeved08 reacted to BLERDgirl in Face moisturizer suggestions? And dry skin in general -- lotion suggestions?
Coconut oil. I prefer cold pressed virgin coconut oil. I also use my Mia Clarisonic 4 -5 days a week to gently slough off any dead skin. Other than that I drink plenty of Water and NEVER, EVER go to bed with makeup on.

Congrats on your weight loss! Coconut oil, organic and unrefined, (usually the refined one is put under extra heat which kills off the benefits) the best thing you can do for dry skin is make sure whatever moisturizer you are using doesn't contain alcohol as it is naturally drying, you want as few ingredients as possible when it comes to your face. The skin on our face is different then the skin on our arms and legs etc, it's much more delicate.
At night have UR basic moisturizer and apply it heavily before going to sleep, make sure you massage your face as you apply gently, this helps with circulation. buying super expensive creams with all these claims aren't necessary, any benefits you have from them will usually cease to show once you discontinue use of the product. When you wake up in the morning, Always make sure you have a cream/moisturizer with atleast 15 SPF, anything more is a bonus but extra sunscreen can sometimes cause an oily appearance. Morning creams are more crucial because of the sunscreen. If you wear foundation with 15 SPF it should cover you if it is applied all over face and neck.
You can also take Vitamin A, it helps with free radicals and aging!
Best thing you can do for your face is making a habit of using sunscreen, staying hydrated, and getting good sleep everyday!
Okay I'm done lol best of luck!

Hi Cockapoo and Foreversleeved, my daughter just got her sleeve at St. David's in Austin Thurs 3/26. I was so impressed with the facility and staff! Such a difference from Seton where she had her gallbladder removed last year. She's having so much pain and nausea she can barely sip anything. I hope she starts feeling better soon. She's really regretting her decision right now. ????

I am smiling because you both express it so well. You are going to do great. It is hell right now though! From one Texas girl to another, keep the faith and hang in there. And mostly take those pain meds! Congratulations on joining our ranks. It gets better and better!

GNC, Amazon, Quest website, lots of health food stores, many bariatric and body building websites, I even found them in the snack kiosks in several airports. 20g protein/under 200 calories. Some people claim they are too high in carbs but they obviously aren't reading the whole label.... 18g of the carbs are actually Fiber.< /p> -

The top sellers are Cookies and cream and the cookie dough.
I also like the lemon ones (sorry kathy!)
Agree the s'mores flavor is gross/too sweet. Also, gag on the cinnamon roll.

This is just my opinion...if it's something that you want then go for it....however if my BMI was that low I would try other options first. whether you have surgery or start healthy eating habits, it is all a huge lifestyle change, especially WLS. they both come with their own pros, cons, and sacrifices. Most people that I know who have had it have tried all other options and failed for years prior to deciding to have surgery. I know if eating healthier and working out the way that many do worked for me, I wouldn't have gone this route. Doing this will not change the fact that you'll have to make healthier choices just because you can eat so little to be satisfied. Instead of working out, eating healthier, and then deciding to have a a sweet or burger in moderation isn't so easy post surgery. And don't get me started on the awkwardness that comes with going out to eat and family get togethers. Once it's done, it's done and you will have to commit to everything it entails.
I don't know your struggle or your reasons for considering WLS, but if it's something you want, just research as much as you can that way you are fully prepared . this surgery has had such a positive impact on so many people, but it comes with its challenges just like everything else. Best of luck with whatever you decide ❤️

foreversleeved08 reacted to Smye in Thanks to WLS I'm finally pregnant!
I suspected immediately when I had my first episode of morning sickness. Not long after my sense of smell went into overdrive and even walking into the produce section of Safeway was impossible from the nauseating smell of raw fish at the fish counter on the other end of the store. The next day I found myself sobbing uncontrollably at the littlest things, even when I wasn't actually sad. Just yesterday a student of mine looked at me funny while I was teaching and I found myself with tears streaming down my face.
At first I was so excited, but then I started to worry. My belly wasn't growing with a little bundle of joy inside, it was shrinking rapidly. Am I having a reverse-baby somehow? Is that even a thing? Not to mention the fact that my wife and I haven't even had sex in the 20 months since our first child was born due to some complications from an incompetent surgeon. Maybe I'm not pregnant after all.
Fortunately, my 1-month post WLS appt was late last week and I determined to asked my doctor about it. He smiled sadly and assured me that everything would be okay before he went to check my bloodwork. When he came back in, he assured me that indeed, my estrogen levels, as well as several other female-associated hormone levels, were consistent with pregnancy. "Congratulations Smye, you're pregnant, but without the baby at the end."
That's right folks, a man, with many of the symptoms of early pregnancy due to rapid weight loss causing a mass-dump of estrogens into the bloodstream. Apparently it will pass once the loss slows down (hopefully no time soon).
To the ladies out there, in no way do I intend to say I know what it is like to be pregnant, I've only gotten a tiny taste here, but I hope you enjoyed.

foreversleeved08 reacted to My3lovies in My BMI is only 28.2 with surgery scheduled!
When this subject was initiated on this thread she asked the opinion of other people so there's many different opinions on the subject.
First of all the writer has a BMI of 29 which is in the overweight range she needs to lose approximately 25 to 30 pounds to get into the normal range her GOAL is 50 pounds.
But setting that goal doesn't mean that's what she needs to lose to get into the normal healthy range.
Most people on this site have been either been mostly Morbidly obese or obese, so when someone asked a opinion on this procedure and you add in possible side effects and how much of a lifestyle change it is I think that's why you get such a radical surprise answer from some people on someone considering such a drastic procedure for not having to lose that much weight.
I believe that is why the medical community came up with the parameters they did regarding a BMI of 40 or 35 with co-morbidities because this surgery is to save someone's health,or life from a early demise.
Best of luck to the writer on going the weight watchers route!

My doc actually told me that after surgery my period would get heavier. My period was heavy before but the first month out was crazy.
My last period(I've had two since surgery) was back to normal. Not overnight heavy but my normal heavy.
They said my body is adjusting to changes so my period may change as a result.

I understand the struggle and desperation to find something that will "just work"! May I ask how much weight do you have to lose? Have you "yo-yo'd" up and down in weight frequently in the past? Lap band requirements that I have seen are a bit more forgiving when it comes to BMI...I think the minimum is 30 but you have to have other co-morbidities...usually you can qualify for most WLS procedures with BMI 40 and above stand alone. Like the previous poster said, it does come with its own set of complications, as does any procedure. You just have to weigh the pros and cons with everything.
However with that being said your current BMI still would not meet insurance requirements, are you considering self pay?

chocolate chip cookie dough is my addiction! The taste and texture are really great and it feels like a naughty treat. I also enjoy the cinnamon roll flavor warmed up for a few seconds in the microwave.
Right now Groupon has a box of 12 Quest bars for $24.99 with free shipping. And if you shop through ebates you get 6% ($1.50) back per box. There is a limit of 5 boxes per customer.
The hardest thing with Quest Bars is limiting myself to just one a day.

i did not read the whole thread... but you have got to be freaking kidding me! This is not an insult to the original poster, but bariatric surgery is for those of us suffering from the disease of obesity. Surgery helps us CONTROL and manage our symptoms (ie we lose weight) but we are always people with the disease of obesity. Once you have been morbidly obese, your body is changed permanently.
This is no joke, it is serious business. It is relatively safe, but people can DIE. People can have complications that ruin their lives for months, if not YEARS. For someone like me, it was worth taking the risk and it paid off big time. I lost like... 160 pounds, not 20-30 - no complications, but it is still hard at times. i am so thrilled, I would do it 100 times over, my life is so much better now but OMG - I was DYING of obesity not just a bit chubby.
Seriously, no disrespect intended, but this is the WRONG PATH for someone who is just a little overweight.

I've tried Cinnamon Roll and strawberry Cheesecake. They were awful. chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is delightful! Big chunks of chocolate and it's not too sweet.
