Hi, I'm Laurie. I found BariatricPal (BP) while doing research for information on WLS. I've recently picked my surgeon, met with his team and received insurance authorization for my surgery. I'll be doing VSG surgery but I don't have a date scheduled yet.

I'm hoping BP will be a resource for me for recipes, inspiration, guidance, etc. I'm a little frustrated that this type of surgery has been around a very long time and yet there isn't much available for help and guidance. I do like having BP on my phone for easy access.

I personally think I've been on the heavier side most of my life. The last five years this has become much more evident to me. The activities I love to do are becoming increasingly difficult. I'm also watching my parents age and the issues my father is having are very scary to me. Many of those issues can be avoided for me if my weight is managable.

I love working out with my husband (we are very competitive with one another), riding quads, hiking and spending time with my horses (including riding). The workouts had to halt because of the pain in my knees. I feel guilty riding my horse (how would you like a 289lb person and 50 to 75lbs of equipment on your back?).

With all that said, I still do what I can to be as active as possible. I love being outside and doing things with friends and family.

I'm looking forward to using VSG as a tool to get moving in the right direction and regaining the lost activities.

I just received my insurance authorization earlier this week and am now feeling quite overwhelmed. I have a wonderful support system in all areas of my life and a great determination.

I'm looking forward to conversing with some of you as I go through this process. It will be wonderful to have you all at my fingertips for questions.

Have a fantastic day!
