BOB patients (band over bypass) tend to find they lose slowly. Certainly nothing like the loss you probably experienced at the start of being bypassed.
Don't think of it being 23lbs in 2 weeks and then nothing, think of it as 23lbs in 9 weeks which is way over the average loss expected with the band. If you are eating fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight.

Lots of people experience exactly what you describe with lap band surgery. Rapid weight "loss" right after surgery, then a period of time where they don't lose any....or actually "gain" some. Totally normal! Who wouldn't lose on a clear liquid diet?
Your surgeon may not have put any ( or not much ) Fluid in your band during surgery. That usually comes somewhere after the first month to 6 weeks post op. And it may take several fills/adjustments to tweak your band to provide optimal results.
Until you get to that happy spot ( you'll hear referred to as the "Green Zone" ), just do your best. You are in what we refer to as lap band "bandster hell"...... the time until you get your band properly adjusted.
    Best wishes!

As with revision surgeries they are not as effective as the original surgery where they don't give you the same bang for the buck. I wish you well and hope it works out for you.

Sounds to me like you're doing fantastic!!!! 17.5lbs in a couple of weeks is ALOT of weight to lose. I know it seems like if the scales aren't moving that you're not losing but that's not true. When the scale stops moving this is when your body is catching up to itself and while doing so is shredding inches. This is just the cycle of weight loss. When the scale is "stalled" the inches are coming off, which to me is the most important thing. Measure yourself in other ways beside the number on the scale, like how you clothes are fitting etc. Keep doing what you're doing and the weight has no choice but to come off! You're doing great!

I check carbs and calories. I don't worry about fat. At the begining I ate 800 - 1000 calories a day. No cheating. There were weeks that I lost nothing and then a week later 5 lbs. I till today keep a running list of calories and carbs eaten per day. I include everything no matter how small a piece. Use my fitness pal if you can. I achieved my goal and then some in 6 months. The trick don't cheat and don't give up. You will succeed.

    Hi everyone,
I've done Atkins etc a few times before with great success. Usually I lose weight fairly quickly for at least the first 2-3 months.
I just had my first fill after having my band empty for 5 years and the band is working great.
I eat 1 cup per meal, Protein first and and then mostly green veggies. I stay under 20g carbs per day and that's mostly real/ not processed food ( no atkins bars etc).
I lost 17.5 lbs during the first few weeks which was fantastic but for about 10 days now the scales have barely moved.
I'm wondering if the small portions could actually slow weightloss down while low carbing?
    What were your experiences?
I've tried a fat fast since yesterday and again no loss.

My Dr has done thousands of lapbands. He told me mine should last the rest of my life if I do my part. I would never consider having it removed unless I had complications. I know if I did not have my band I would re-gain my weight quickly. I knew going in this would have to be my final weight loss "program". after spending thousands of dollars and decades trying to lose weight on my own, I resolved to get healthy and keep my weight off. The feeling of not being a slave to food has been euphoric for me. I hope you re-consider your decision to have a removal.

band-4-life got a reaction from Anicka in My first fill
Yesterday was my 2 week since my surgery and my doctor appointment and my first fill of 4cc. I had to drink Water before I left the office to make sure it went down. Ok, I was fine. Now what I don't understand is when it was time to eat I was a little scared because of all what I read about vomiting, food not going down. But to my surprise when I eat I felt no restrictions. Is that possible I'm hoping someone can share the light on this for me.

I was banded in Mississauga (Toronto) on December 18th, 2014. I am 11 weeks post-op and down 37 pounds.
It may not be a ton of weight lost, but its all gone, gone gone forever, and I am losing slow and steady. As I lay in bed last night, I touched my ribs (I have ribs?!) and reflected on how things have changed for me since being banded two and a half months ago.
I realized last night that I am totally, completely, madly in love with my band. Here's why:
My size 22 pants fall down to my ankles if I don't wear a belt. Even when I do wear a belt, my size 22 pants look like I'm wearing a parachute. I can put on my "old" jeans without unzipping/unbuttoning the fly. My tummy scars are a proud (and only slightly scary) red/purple, and serve to remind me every day of the commitment I've made to myself. My College students talk about me when they think I have my back turned/can't hear them and say things like "Damn, she's looking GOOD". I no longer have to use a "bath sheet" sized towel. A regular sized one wraps around my bod, thanks very much. I am no longer winded when I climb a set of stairs. People at work tell me hair looks AMAZING. What they are actually saying doing is choosing my hair as the way to give me a "YOU LOOK AMAZING!" compliment without verbalizing my obvious weight loss. This gives me JOY. I can no longer feel my thighs pressing against the sides of my office chair. Truth: In the shower, I no longer have to lift stuff up to wash other stuff. Seriously. When I get up to pee in the middle of the night there is no pain in my body. Anywhere. The aches are gone. My favourite LL Bean down jacket from before I chubbed out FITS ME and I can zip it up easily. I proctored an exam the other day sitting cross-legged on a desk. My herniated disc (due to obesity) has resolved. I can now roll over in bed pain-free. I can sleep on my stomach again. This is also something that gives me JOY. I sat on the floor with a group of students the other day, and realized I had gotten up again with absolutely NO EFFORT. I can chug water! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do this after being banded. (It's the little things...) I have been watching my cheekbones emerge. Wow. Our grocery bill has gone down dramatically. I eat 1/3 (if that) of what I used to eat. My husband says with the grocery money saved since being banded we could buy a cottage in Muskoka. (lol!) Speaking of my husband, I weigh less than him for the first time in a decade. And more about my husband: I've noticed him touching my bum. A lot. And smooching me up. And hugging me close. He's proud, I can tell. My band gently (and sometimes not-so-gently) reminds me to slow down when I eat. Thank you, dear band. I have learned what freedom from the hunger monster feels like, and MAN OH MAN is that ever sa-weet. I have a constant backdrop of satiety. I no longer think about, or worry about, my next meal. Love those band adjustments! I am looking forward to getting into my MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op - the Canadian version of "REI") 'Rad Pants' I've kept from 1994. They are red, they are a size 10. The summer is almost here and with it comes a canoe-trip. I will be wearing those pants. I feel like a I have a new lease on life. Woo hoo! It's okay to stall. It's ok to have the occasional chocolate banana fritter. (Whoops - damn it was good). I am in a love affair with my band, but more importantly, with myself.
THIS is why I am in love with my band.
    Happy happy!
