Thank you so much for your response......great advice. I was told at the outset that when food is your crutch you will need to find something else, I guess I just never realised how much of a crutch it was.I'm sure many people will offer you suggestions, but I need to share some advice with you. (The best advice I received throughout my weight loss journey, in fact.) I was complaining about food boredom to my nutritionist. Same thing, day in, day out, blah, blah BOREDOM! Her advice was not what I expected. She said, "Food is not entertainment." I know we have all heard the cliche, "eat to live, don't live to eat", but until she said this to me, I never really internalized a new way of thinking about food. She also added, "Talk to all the normal weight people you know. You will find they continually eat the same things." She was right.
It is normal to get bored in the early stages, but as you get used to your new way of life, try to remember that you are eating to nourish yourself and lose weight. Food is no longer entertainment.
Best,
Amy

Hi I am 5 weeks post op in the UK and on soft, crispy, mushy stage, but I find that I am eating the same thing everyday!!??....
Weetabix, Soup, Crispbread with Pate and Shepherds Pie..........can anyone help with some more ideas please? Thank you :-) ????????

I was exactly the same at 3 weeks......try not to worry, it will start coming off, I'm 5 weeks post op now and have lost almost 3 stone ????????
-
Aw I'm really pleased for you.......looking forward to the same soon ????

I too am 3 weeks post op and haven't lost any weight for 5 days........so I know how you feel. It's very frustrating when you know you are only having between 600-800 calories. As others have said, maybe our bodies think we are in starvation, I'm hoping it's something like that anyway. Keep your chin up and carry on doing what you are doing, I'm sure it will come off soon ????????

Well done you.....that's brilliant. Don't think they do tests like that here in the UK!

About 2 1/2 weeks ago, while shampooing my hair, it started coming out in clumps like never before. The clumps have gotten a tad smaller each time I Shampoo, which is only once a week now, but it's still coming out. Plus I'm shedding like crazy!! I knew Hair loss was going to happen at some point post-surgery, but sure did not expect it to be this much all at once each time I shampoo. I've always had really thick, nice hair regardless of what length I'm wearing it, but now it has gotten so thin, especially at my crown. I am taking additional Biotin, continuing with the Iron and have read that others are taking folic acid as well. Does the folic acid help? My PCP and surgery have assured me I will not lose all my hair, that this is only temporary, and that it will grow back and I know this to be true because of all the other WLS patients who have already traveled this road. I've started collecting the hair I lose so I can share it with my backyard birdies to use for nesting material...LOL!!! They might as well benefit from it
Hi Elode may I ask when you started having hair loss? It's not something that I have been told about, I'm 2 weeks post Op.
Thank you
Gosh that sounds scary........how many weeks post op are you? Interesting to note what you are all taking for the problem, at least I know if it happens, it's a side effect and how to try and treat it. Thank you :-)

You only had a week off? And no phased return to work? I'm not surprised you are tired. I'm 2 weeks post Op and considering phased return at 3 or 4 weeks. So my first couple of days back to work were rough and I tired very easily. Of course I was still on clear liquid. Tomorrow I will move to phase two and am hoping I wont be as tired at work.

Congrats on the two month mark!!

Yes I was allowed coffee from Day 2. Is that different from you?

Hi, I did 10 days on milk and yoghurt, I was also allowed tea and coffee and sugar free jelly. It was very hard, especially like you said when you cook for kids and husband. I didn't cheat, I'm also very proud of this! Keep it up, it will be worth it, you are half way there.

Hi I know how you feel, I don't want to sound negative but I hope your Weight loss programme is not as long as mine...I had to attend for 12 months and it took 16 months to my Operation, it was worth it, I'm 8 days post op now.Hi all, I was recent referred by my doctor for weight loss surgery and I really want a gastric sleeve. I have finally heard from St George's who want me to follow a Weight loss programme with them before they will consider surgery. Have any of you had this? I'm at the end of my tether and can't go on like this. Considering self funding but can't afford to really and would sorted ASAP. How long were you made to follow a weight loss programme? I feel like I've been on a permanent diet since I was 12 in now 27 and want to start my life. Still waiting on a date for my appointment for this crappy weight loss programme!

Hi Amy, I'm in Sheffield and am 8 days post op, if you want any questions answering I'm happy to help :-)

WOW...Congratulations to you. My 2 favourite things were coffee and Crisps too...I'm 8 days post Op and not liking the taste of coffee much at all, it's very strange when I think about how much I used to drink. ☕️☕️xx

I would have liked to keep mine more private, I only told my mum and 2 supportive friends, but my mum took it upon herself to tell lots of people, then it's amazing how it gets around. ????

Hi there, we are told to have 2-3 tablespoons full or 6-9 teaspoons. ☺️☺️I just started the second stage (puréed & moist and mushy). I know that we are supposed to stop eating when we are full. This might be a stupid question but how do I know when I'm full? I'm not even hungry at all. I am just eating because I have to and am scared to overdo it.

Thank you...... It has started to come off now....woohoo!!! ????????
Yes it happens. Sometimes it's Water weight from the IV fluids and sometimes it's your body trying to adjust to the changes. Give it time. Continue to follow your doctor's instructions. The weight will come off.Hi there, I'm new on here, had my Sleeve Op 23rd Feb 2015 in the UK so 1 week post Op, I haven't lost any weight as yet, not 1lb, is thus normal??
I must also say reading all your messages, it seems the UK surgery/pre Op/food intake is so very different from in the US.

Well I never drank enough Water before so I guess it hasn't been a problem, I do need to drink more but I am told not to have a drink 30 mins a meal until 30 mins after a meal and when you have to have 5 small meals it is difficult fitting all the water in!!
I'm near Southampton, plan on using michael van den bossche at the spire hospital. I'm hoping for surgery in May, need to book my consultation etc. I'm still a bit scared of committing to it..,I know it's right and I need to get it done, but it's scary! At the same time a bit exciting too!Hi I had my surgery in Sheffield, Thornbury Hospital. Pre op diet was 10 days milk and low fat yoghurt, was extremely hard but I didn't cheat!! Post Op fluids only for 2 days, then puréed diet for next 4 weeks, which I'm on now, I'm struggling to be honest with the purée as I'm quite a fussy eater. Whereabouts are you in the UK?
How are you getting on with drinking Water? That's one of my biggest concerns as I drink a lot!!

I had my VSG on Monday 2/23 so I am on day 5 post op. I feel like I'm still have quiet a bit of pain. I still need to take my.pain pills and it hurts to take deep breaths at times. I don't feel short of breath but more that my abdomen hurts when taking deep breaths. Is this normal or happening to anyone else?
Hi there, my surgery was 23 Feb also, I still have quite a bit if pain even though a consultant TOKD me I shouldn't have any by now!! ????????
-
Hi, I'm yet to even have my initial consultation, but wanted to say hi as I'm in uk too!
Hope your surgery went ok and you're recovering? I'm sure the weight will start to drop off soon. What surgeon/Hosp did you use?? And would you mind sharing what the pre/post op diet is you're following?
