  1. I don't know how much of a personal bias a psychologist is supposed to inject into their analysis, but this does not seem very ethical or professional. You would be better served by getting a referral from your surgeon.

    My Texas Sleevers

@@SAD HATTER Who is your Surgeon? What clinic are you going to?
  3. Went to see Dr. Seger at BMI of Texas for my initial consult today. It went great. I am now on my preop diet for the next six months. All the usual tests have been scheduled (psych eval, etc.). Also the insurance company has given me my checklist, and if approved, they will cover all of it, less my $500 deductible! Now I have actual measurable goals that I can actually see and work towards which I feel makes this more possible than ever! I am so pumped. As Ice Cube used to say.
  4. Oh I'm not suffering, if anything, I'm amused by it

I wish I knew how to quit you, (fill in the blank)!

For me it's definitely sweetened iced tea. I love that stuff. But unsweetened isn't so bad now, as long as it's brewed strong enough.

    Man boobs?

push ups are good for pectoral muscles(chest). Even if you aren't ready to do full on pushups, lean yourself up against a wall and push off it several times.
  7. Ya know...Maybe you should confront that person (not in a threatening way, just casual conversation) and ask what exactly he/she knows about the type of surgery you had, and when they start mumbling and stammering, just say "Yeah, that's what I thought... so don't judge me or what I've done until you have educated yourself about it or walked in my shoes." Most people cannot even have an intelligent conversation about it because they don't know anything about it. They don't know that there are several different surgeries done to help aid weight loss and most importantly if someone has a high risk of morbidity and / or they can't exercise, this is the only option. If people want to say we took the easy way out, then they are uneducated as to what we have to go through or what our lives were before surgery. I'm sorry but I would have to say something to that ____wad. Can't stand people that act like they know everything but they are really stupid. I say..."Educate them!!!" LOL I see what you are saying. If a family member or close friend had taken a similar position, then I might feel compelled to educate them. But this is just some j@ck@$$ who works in the same office as me. Not worth my time. Like I said, this is now a matter of life and death. I'd rather not spend my time trying to inform the ignorant. I guess I've learned to let stuff like that roll off my back.
  8. Over the many years of being overweight, I've managed to develop a thick skin. Some guy like that could never discourage me. Had we been anywhere else, and not the office, I'd have told him to eff off. Thanks for all the stories, guys. Just wanted to share mine

    Feeling defeated

I feel this might be the case. It's hard for me to imagine a doctor pushing to lose weight that fast. I don't think that's very responsible. If that truly is the doctor's opinion, maybe go see another doctor.

    Feeling defeated

WTH. Does the surgeon get a bonus if you lose a certain amount if you reach your goal weight within 6 months? You are down 61 lbs in 3 months. That's pretty damned impressive, surgery or not. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't seem reasonable or safe to push any harder than that. You're losing weight, that's what's important. With every pound you shed, your risk factors for a whole host of health problems decrease dramatically. Wellness is the goal here, not who can lose the most, the fastest. Maybe a second opinion would be something to consider here.

    Disappointed in myself

Don't be discouraged. Just my perspective here, but you've already lost ~30% of your expected weight loss in 2 months! That looks like progress to me. In 6 or 7 months you'll be where you want to be. I'm sure it gets tough, but stick with it, and you'll do great.

    Man boobs?

Once you are recovered from your surgery. Make this part of your routine. Do 10-15 pushups every night right before you go to bed.

Never thought I'd consider cosmetic surgery

If you can afford it, and it will make you feel better, I say go for it. Sorry I don't have anything more to offer on this topic
  15. Hi everyone, My name is Jerry, I am 36 years old living in San Antonio, Texas. I have been overweight pretty much my entire life. Throughout high school and college, I was heavy. Yet I still managed to maintain somewhat of an active lifestyle. The college I went to had a huge campus, and I walked everywhere. I probably averaged several miles a day walking from class to class. That activity seemed to be enough to keep my weight in check. However as I've gotten older, I've begun to experience more and more health issues due to my weight. It has also affected my lifestyle. Just doing simple things now are more difficult than they should be. Riding on the roller coaster at six flags, going to theaters, and stuff like that. I know I'm on borrowed time, and it's time to make a change. Frankly, I'm excited about it. I've always been a spirited person who welcomes change and tackles it head on. The only thing about this that makes me nervous is paying for it. I'm still dealing with my insurance, and it's still not clear whether or not we can get them to help pay for it. I guess time will tell. But I am determined to get this done some how. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone going through the same experiences.

What activities are you looking forward to doing?

Here's a new one. I want to go kayaking. I love fishing and am too poor to own a boat, I figure a kayak is a good middle ground. I want to start flying more places. I simply refuse to fly anywhere at my current size. I want to ride a zip line. I want to sit at a restaurant booth. I want to see my wang again.
  17. I would told her to f**k off. And no wonder her kids don't call her. But then again, my defense mechanisms have been honed to a razor sharp edge over the years.

    It's time for real change

Hi, that is definitely an option I am ready to consider if the insurance company is less than cooperative, especially if I decide to have it done Mexico. Thanks for the reply.
