    Preop diet

I am in my preop diet. I usually have a Protein shake in the morning, the premier Protein Shake mix from Sam's club is great. I usually mix a scoop of that with 8 oz of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and top it off with some more cold Water just to add some volume. I usually have a salad for lunch, or some sort of meat and veg combo. Same goes for dinner. I find that if you focus on protein and vegetables, you will find more and more options. If you love avocados like I do, I always keep a few on hand. They make a great salad sliced with some sliced tomatoes and some salt sprinkled on top. Keep a variety of vegetables on hand, and don't hide them in the drawers in your refrigerator, or you will forget about them and they will go bad. Keep them in site. That little trick has worked well for me. I find that some carbs are ok as long as I keep it under a certain amount, but I keep well clear of sugars. Also, bacon is your friend This is a lot to digest (pun intended) but you will get the hang of it. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

    Your weirdest breakfast?

This is a south texas thing, and has become a common breakfast staple since I began to cut carbs. But I love me some chicharrones (translation: fried pork rind) and eggs scrambled together. Dump some salsa on it, and you got yourself a fine breakfast there.
  3. I know how you feel. I also started my 6 months in march, per insurance requirements. It seems so far away, but I just know it will be here before I know. Stay strong.
  4. Made these the other night and they were great. Make some taco meat using beef or turkey. You can use a taco meat spice packet, or if you have garlic power, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper, you can make you're own. I like to make my own. Brown it then add some Water and the seasonings and let it cook down. I used romaine leaves at the shells. At this point you can put whatever toppings you like on it. This time, I just put some grated cheddar, and some fresh avocado slices. Hope this helps.

"You'd be much prettier if you lost weight"

That is just a shitty thing to say. I've had a complete stranger in the past come up to me and say something like, "Have you ever thought about going on a diet." Usually my sarcasm is enough to deflect, but it stings so much more when it comes from someone close to you. Sorry that happened to you. Keep you chin up.

    2 pounds in 2 weeks......

In my short time on this forum, and reading many posts similar to this one. I feel safe in saying that there is no "normal". People just lose weight at different rates. Different people respond differently to the surgery. But 16 lbs in a month, I'd say that's pretty good. At this rate, you'll hit your goal within 6 months. You're doing great.

    Brag session!

I'm still early in the pre-op process, but down 30lbs. I was able to wear some pants a few days ago that I thought I'd never be able to wear again. little victories. Congrats on all your success, you look great!

Things men say when told about WLS :)

This. I'm sure it's always been this way, but I've noticed it as I've gotten older. But the world is filled with men who think every woman in the world must conform to his idea of beauty. They're assholes, plain and simple. I know this because I have many friends who think this way, even though, they themselves are far from perfect. Luckily, I don't have to date any of them. But be warned ladies, they are out there. They don't have a sweet side that no one else knows about. They're not sensitive once you get to know them. When you peel back the layers on an jerk, you just find more jerk. To the OP, your time is much better spent on finding a person who will appreciate who you are now, and the journey you took to get here. So it might be time to fire up that long dormant sense of self confidence and tell him if he has a problem with it, he can hit the bricks. Sorry for posting in the ladies room, I'll see myself out

    So far so good

Just rub it in, you skinny bastard.
  12. I respectfully disagree with those who say more power to him, or good for him. I know this forum is about encouragement and support, but I find it downright tragic that this man feels so far gone that he thinks there is no saving him. Maybe a lifetime of being fat, and not feeling worthy has him feeling that he's not worth saving. Maybe he's just too afraid of the uncertainty that accompanies such a huge life change. This is a very difficult decision to make, and with as much bravado as I like to project about it, there are some nights where I just don't know if I can do it. I know it's his decision, and it's not my place to try to impose my point of view on him. I would never do such a thing. Because I have been in his shoes. His situation is tragic, and I have all the sympathy in the world for him. But to say more power to him, or good for him on continually making such a self-destructive lifestyle choice I also cannot do. Would we say such a thing to drug addicts who say that they love drugs too much to quit? I just find his situation saddening and all I can do is hope he decides he wants better for himself. Just my opinion.

what type of scale do you use?

It's just not efficient for a body at any weight to maintain an exact weight down to the pound. As you take in varying amounts of food and Water from day to day, your body weight will fluctuate by several pounds. The amount of other factors that play into this are too many to count. As long as the overall trend is down and not up, you will be ok. And stop weighing yourself EVERYDAY!
  14. Sounds like it's time to change it up a little. Change up your exercise routine, throw your body a curve ball. For example, if you've been walking two miles a day, maybe try and go for that third mile now. Or try to get that extra set in at that gym. I'm learning not to let myself get too comfortable. You can do it.
  15. Nice little story there. Unfortunately, we are all slaves to our own choices. I definitely make no excuses for the bad choices I have made in the past. I guess I got to a certain point where I decided that I want to at least experience a life that was always just out of reach for me because of my weight before I die. But I wouldn't feel right imposing that on someone else, because at the end of the day, it's a very personal decision.

what type of scale do you use?

I bought this one a few years ago from amazon, it does the job. I find that it can be anywhere from 1.5-3 lbs off from the scale at the doctor's office. I'm fine with that as long as the number keeps going down every time I weight myself.

    Who uses a fitbit?

I have a fitbit charge, and it's great for keeping me honest. Now I find myself always trying to get extra steps, for example parking far away at the grocery store. I don't think fit bit came up with the 10K steps a day. Actually the app uses an algorithm to determine how many steps a day you should be doing initially, and over time as you become more active, that step goal increases. When I first bought mine, it initially recommended 8k steps a day as a goal, now I'm up to 15k steps a day.
  18. As a gentleman of generous proportions, I do find it necessary to shop at the DXL. I'm not proud of it, but this is my reality and until I can get down to a smaller size this is the way it will be. I've come to accept that. I went there recently for some new clothes. As I walk in, I am immediately greeted by a very nice associate welcoming me to the store and offering to assist me in helping me find what I need. Now in my warped mind, I'm thinking this guy is calling me out in public for being in the "fat store" when in reality probably isn't the case. BTW, there are two places that come to mind where I do not want my presence announced upon entering, the Megaplexxx and DXL. I politely decline his assistance and go off to look for something on my own. He comes back around several times asking if I need anything, or if he could help me find a certain size. That was a deal breaker, because it would involve having to divulge my size to him. No way. He was very nice and very helpful, but when I go there I just want to be invisible so I can shop in shame. I know there is online shopping, but sometimes you need something right away, and just want to be able to go to store and buy it. I'm really looking forward to shopping in regular stores again.

    So disappointed

I'm gonna nerd out on some math here. But look at it this way. Your goal is to lose ~100 lbs. Well you've already lost 15% of that in just one month! Those are what I call results. So if you continue on this pace, you'll probably hit your goal in the next 6 months. Before your surgery, could you have ever imagined losing 100 lbs in 6 months? You are doing it. Don't lose sight of the goal here.

6 months post op with pics

Wow! You look great. Nice smile too.

Anyone else ever shop at DXL?

I hear the underwear from there is quite comfy.
  22. Yeah that just shows a general misunderstanding (read:ignorance) of any surgical procedure. Your sister in law obviously isn't aware that all surgery carries a certain level of risk. Any surgeon well readily admit this. Whoever died from having weight loss surgery probably didn't die of the WLS per se, but there were probably complications post surgery that the surgeon didn't foresee. Tragic, no less. But if these procedures were killing people left and right, does she really think it would be allowed? Come on. Besides, what are the risks of not doing something? BTW, I showed restraint in not telling him off because he's just some random j@ck@$$ that I work with. Had a family member told me something like that, there would have been drama
  23. 19lbs lost in one week. That has to be some sort of record right?

    My story is new gossip:(

Why would you let someone like her threaten your success? You've come so far. Now that your secret is out, maybe it's time you just own it and be proud of your decision.
