    Prednisone

I would talk you you surgeon's office first. Three are a couple problems with prednisone. First of all it can raise your blood glucose levels, and secondly I it can delay healing, so if you start taking it they may delay surgery.

    3 week post Op Question

Are you drinking all your water? We are much more likely to develop kidney stones because of the higher protein intake, so water is very important.

    Calling all nurses!

I'm an RN in CCU. My gastric bypass was on July 29th. The only person at work that knows why I'm off is my boss. I'm sure when I go back significantly lighter (already down 22lbs) people are going to have questions. Honestly I'm not sure how I'm going to answer. It's really difficult because I'm scared of the responses and feeling judged, but I guess the fear of comorbities is worse.

    Freaking out

I think some of it is we can't use our old go to (food) to de stress. Normally if I felt like I was on the edge of a breakdown I'd go through the Dairy Queen drive thru. Guess this is good practice for learning new coping mechanisms.

    Freaking out

I had my last Pre-Op class today, and when I left I was on the verge of a major anxiety attack. I know this is what I want, what I planned for, but it was all very overwhelming today. My surgery is 7/29 so some positive thoughts would be appreciated.

    Drain

Leave it open to air as much as possible. A bandage keeps moisture in, not allowing a proper scab to form.
  9. I'm a night shifter and had to have some labs drawn this morning that required me to be NPO. I'm not going to lie, it sucked, you're never thirsty until someone tells you that you can't have a drink. I survived, just kept reminding myself that my goal is in sight!

    Restaurant idea!

There are two women that do a YouTube cooking show called Seven Bites, it's full of cooking ideas and tips for Bariatric patients.

Anyone else as scared as i am?

@@Dub Wow! Thank you for your wise words. I'm scheduled for July 29th and am getting more and more scared as the date approaches. My dad died of a massive heart attack at 44 and that is my motivator, I just needed someone to remind me of that.
  12. I'm in the final stages of authorization before getting my surgery date. Curious, how long did you take off from work? When you returned were there any restrictions? I'm also struggling with the question that many here have? Do I tell people? If so who, and if I don't how do I respond to those that question my changing look? Also you night shifters, any meal planning suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!
  13. It shouldn't smell, your doctor needs to check your urine to be sure you don't have a CAUTI (catheter associated urinary tract infection). You may need them to prescribe an antibiotic.
