    Hi Kiwii
Wow! I had my sleeve gastrectomy on Feb. 11th at LGS with Dr. P. also! I started getting antsy about the creamed Soups yesterday, too! Bought a new one today, carrot-ginger Pacific foods. Yesterday I tried adding 1 Tablespoon of Idaho potato flakes to 4 oz. simmering red pepper/tomato Soup. It thickened slightly and I needed to sip it more slowly. I'm revved up for purée week to arrive...made puréed chicken breast with chicken broth, a little veggie seasoning and froze in two ounce containers. Today I purchased hummus to dip soft steamed baby carrots in (next week!). When the healing gets there I'll be ready.
Liked the other replies you received that gave web sites with recipes. We'll get there!
Hope you are feeling well today

Groups that are private should only show in your news feed. No one else should be able to see what you add or join unless you allow it or they are in the group. Make sure to check your settings.

There are lots of recipies. I have been thinking of posting with favorite recipies because all this helps so much but I will list some sites with some amazing stage 1, 2 and 3 Soups and purees. You can also find on these sites recipes for Protein Shakes that are different than pour the powder in the Water or milk and drink.

Kiwwi1991 got a reaction from BLERDgirl in I feel unsupported... Can I do this by myself?
I would sit and have a serious talk with him. This is a change that sometimes changes relationships, for the better even. I feel he needs to understand where you are coming from and why you feel the need to have this done. If he can't be your support through all rough times, how is he fulfilling his role as husband? Isn't is for better or worse? I have a wonderful (new) husband but if he told me anything like that, I would start to think he isn't right for me. That is such a hurtful thing to say. I would just talk it through with him. Ask him why he said that and doesn't want you healthy. A family friend actually has allowed herself to stay unhealthy and turned down surgery because her husband like "extra meat" he said, and she was afraid to lose him. Don't let someone else take over your life and your choices. You are your own person and I'm here to say your not alone in this. I volunteer to be support if you need it. I have this on my phone and can easily message at any point. I want YOU to be happy and healthy, no matter what your husband says. Do what you feel is right.

I'm just past the first week after my surgery (was on Feb 11th) and I'm getting sick of eating the same Soups I have been. Does anyone have ideas of something different? I just need variety but the canned soups don't offer that much for what I can eat. Just looking for ideas from some creative people!

Sleeved February 16th. Feeling pretty good, mostly the right quadrant pain, but that seems to be pretty normal. Going to attempt a little mall walking today. Still following clear liquid diet, trying to avoid a leak, and I can't imagine eating anything sen pureed at this point. I would love to join the Facebook group, but have not really made my surgery public, so hoping this group is a private group that only shows "likes" and comments to the people in the group? If so, I would like to know how to find and join the group, it's so nice to have support and understanding.

It does seem a little odd that you don't have "full liquids" stage if you are going straight from clears to mushies. I think *most* of us had a full liquids stage when we were allowed to have strained cream Soups, drinkable yogurt, etc. But definitely just do what your surgeon has instructed. Don't get ahead of schedule. Once you do progress to another stage, make sure you take things slowly and be prepared to "roll back" to the previous stage if necessary.

Best thing to do is contact your surgeon tomorrow for clarification. As Babbs said we all follow different instructions and don't want to give you advice that may differ from your surgeons plan. This is a small hump and can be solved with a phone call

You should have received very specific instructions from your surgeon/nutritionist about what you can start eating when. If you have any questions about that, you should contact your surgeon's office.
As for regrets, that's pretty normal the first few weeks post-op. The recovery is tough and miserable and it's easy to wonder if you will ever feel "normal" again. I assure you that you will! It will get better day-by-day and week-by-week and you will feel like a real human being again, I promise. Hang in there! Make sure you are doing the right things and getting in all your fluids. It's very hard the first few days, but if you can get in your Protein and fluids, it will really help with your recovery.

You should follow YOUR surgeon's plan. If you feel ready to advance to the next stage, call your surgeon's office and ask to speak to the dietician, nurse, whoever he or she has in charge of post-surgery eating. Discuss it with them and see if they will either give you permission to advance, or possibly find other ways of addressing hunger (you may need a PPI, or to drink more Protein Shakes, something like that). IMO, don't start eating off your doctor's plan just because other people on the internet are eating stuff you aren't.

I have found chewing on ice gives me the chewing sensation that I needed!! I don't think in the first two weeks any of us will be really full! Do what the doctor said for best results! ????

Be careful with what you choose to put in your new little tummy! Stick with the plan and drink your shakes. When it's time, add in the mushy stuff like refried Beans and yogurt, don't go straight to sugar and starches (lemonade & fries). Your body needs things that will be very nourishing and give you the things you need because you don't have a lot of space to work with. Please be careful.

If you are genuinely trying to get better, follow your doctor's orders and don't try eating things you shouldn't be eating yet.

I met with a nurse today (having surgery next week!). She said "average" for the first month is 5-10 lbs....BUT then she said most people she sees far exceed that the first month. So...it is JUST averages. Don't get discouraged.

I think the stats say that people on the average lose about 65% of their excess weight. But being an average, there is bound to be a wide range of what people lose. I'm now 3.5 lbs from goal so I've lost about 95% of my excess weight. It only takes 1 person who loses no weight to give the two of us an average of 50% lost. (That was a bit convoluted, but I hope you see what I mean.) Also, if someone gets the sleeve with 200 lbs to lose, it's possible they might not lose the entire 200 lbs, so that messes with the averages as well.
I'm praying that I can maintain this loss---that seems like the bigger battle to me.

Kiwwi1991 got a reaction from chubbsey1 in Ideas for crushed meds?
If you need to crush meds, I find it best to add to yogurts or Protein Shakes. It doesn't change the taste normally and you can't even tell most the time, depending on the medication. I was told by my surgeon that I can take pills the size of an eraser head or smaller. Most of my pills I can swallow on their own but I mix others with strong flavored items. It all depends on what your surgeon says you can eat and then go from there.

no slip in band. for the first 6 mos. you are on a diet. we call this bandster hell. losing 10 lbs since surgery isn't bad. hunger is a terrible thing to fight, but fight you must. the band eventually will restrict how much you eat. but there is a lot of food we can eat that slides right through, so you must train yourself to eat a 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day. whether you are hungry or not. don't get discouraged, if you follow and get yourself used to the 1/2 cup of food per meal you will succeed in band life. measure your food until you get the feel for the amount. once you do this you will see the wt. start coming off. eat Protein first, vegetable second and lastly if you are able to eat carbs. but still only in small amounts. when you finally get to the green zone you will have trained yourself how much to eat and that amount will satisfy you for hours. I wish you luck. its hard work but worth it. it's harder to fail and than get back on track.
