  1. Dr Jamie ponce de leon at int hospital looks like a viable lower cost option to hospital angeles and corvala.
  2. Biotene spray for dry mouth after surgery....liquid tylenol
  3. They do not cover much if you review the fine print
  4. Is there anyone else scheduled with Corvala at hospital angeles the week of june 29 in Tijuana?
  5. I am traveling to TJ june 29 alone

    Cash?

I can pay Corvala and hospital angeles via credit card to their U.s. Affiliate before I enter mexico.
  7. I really cannot offer an educated opinion on him. He appears to be a bit lighter on experience than some and doesn't appear to have the prestigous international credentials but that by no means indicates that he is a bad surgeon.
  8. Kelly, rodriguez, a. Ortiz, and Corvala are typically in the group of top Tijuana surgeons. As david from bariatric pal will remind us there are several other good surgeons in mexico but you need to be very careful in your research. Also the facility where you have the surgery done also matters.
  9. I was told single incision is more risky. Greater chance the surgeon could inadvertently touch an organ. Also the one incision is as long as the five individual incisions. I have no idea if any of that is true. That is just the rationale my case coordinator told me why my surgeon prefers not to do single incision.
  10. My dr is Covala at hospital angeles. There is a lot on the internet about him. I really won't for sure how good he is until I have the surgery in june. I do like the five nights is the hospital that the hospital angeles package offers given some on this board are still in rough shape three or four days out.

    Type 2 diabeties

I just found out I have type two diabeties today. I am scheduled to be sleeved on june 30. Now that I have diabeties should I be considering bypass instead of sleeve? I was going to go with sleeve as there appear to be less complications but I heard bypass typically cures type 2 diabeties.
  12. Sleeve versus bypass and going to mexico versus the U.S
  13. My psyc evaluation isn't until the day of my surgery at hospital angeles in Tijuana with Corvala. My surgery is june 29 as that is the best time of year for me to get time off work.
  14. Thanks...I loaded viber on both my and my wife's smart phones and I will plan to use the wifi at the hospital angeles in Tijuana as that is were I will be staying the entire five nights I am in mexico. Hopefully the hospital angeles wifi will be fast enough to handle viber. I would also like to stream Netflix while at the hospital if the wifi is fast enough.
  15. Does anyone know if I can use the viber or google hangouts app to make calls back to the u.s. over the hotel or hospital wifi while i am in Mexico? I heard somewhere that voip calls are blocked in mexico but I'm not sure if that also pertains to viper and google hangouts app calls on wifi.
  16. I think Skype to skype viber to viber and google to google calls will work. What may not work are viber google or Skype calls while in mexico to a u.s. Land line or cell phone number. That is where obtaining a mexican SIM card or switching to an international plan for a month could be necessary. I put the viber app on both my and my wife's phone and I will leave my phone in airplane mode while in mexico.

    Post op doctor

My pcp is very supportive of my going to mexico and helping me when I am back but local bariatric surgeons won't help. That is how they try to force us in northern tier states to pay twice as much for the same surgery in my area than if I had it done in texas and four times as much as the typical cost in mexico. There just isn't the competition in my area to drive prices down.
  18. Has anyone tried using viber or google hangouts to make VoIP calls from mexico using hotel or hospital wifi. I read somewhere that making calls over wifi is blocked in mexico.
  19. I had to correct my insurance company on the phone when the rep misread my policy. It is best to read the wording in the detailed exclusion section. Some policies are silent on coverage so you may need to act as your own advocate.
  20. Need to look at the exclusions section of your detailed health plan and see if complications from elective surgery are covered. Some cover and some do not.
  21. Good luck...I am with Covala June 30. I learned today that he uses a 36 bougie sleeve size which is right in the middle of the range. I wish you no leaks. Freddie

Any 'self pay' sleevers out there?

It is interesting how vsg prices vary so much throughout the u.s. If I only had to pay 9k I would also stay in my home area for the post op support.
  23. Hospital Angeles with Dr Covala is the only surgeon hospital combination I can get comfortable with. There are many fine bariatric surgeons but IMHO most of the facilities they operate at are not on par with hospital angeles with the exception of almater. The regulatory and legal framework in mexico is obviously different than the u.s. Which does some create a degree some degree of risk.
  24. Gundern2015...how is your vsg recovery going?
